Excellent Customer Support

What do you like best about the product?
We have felt very supported by D2L with the move to Brightspace. We met regularly with support personnel during our transition to Brightspace and have had regular check-in meetings ever since.

I like that D2L is continuously improving Brightspace. Each month our system has continuous delivery updates that do not require downtime.

Our users find Brightspace easy to use. Brightspace’s responsive design allows users to easily access their courses on a computer or a mobile device.
What do you dislike about the product?
There are some features that our faculty were using in our previous LMS that are not available in Brightspace. However, we have submitted suggestions for improvements to the Product Idea Exchange in the Brightspace Community. So, there is hope that someday these features will be implemented in Brightspace.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
In addition to using Brightspace for online learning, Brightspace is beneficial for instructional continuity. Our in-person classes need to be able to shift to remote if the need arises. Brightspace allows for this shift to happen. Our faculty can create well-designed and engaging courses for in-person, online, hybrid, and remote learning.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Talk to other users of Brightspace to get first-hand information about how the LMS is working or not working for them. A great place to start is by visiting the Brightspace Community. There you can find out what users of Brightspace are saying about the LMS.

A Great Improvement over Other LMSes

What do you like best about the product?
The ability to create content pages that are functional as learning tools means I can create engaging and well-organized content for my students. They don't need to get lost looking for information or links. The system makes it very easy to create attractive and adaptive course content. My students routinely comment on how effectively organized my courses are in Brightspace. They talk about feeling like appreciated because the course is something attractive, rather than just a collection of blue links. Brightspace's design and interface make this possible.
What do you dislike about the product?
Although it is better than other systems, there is still a good deal of "clickiness" throughout Brightspace, meaning in order to accomplish a specific action, you need to click more than once. Some of this has been addressed through the redesign of the Assignment and Quiz creation tools; however, the issue persists. For example, when grading submitted assignments. At a minimum, five clicks to process a single submission, assuming you aren't leaving any comments or using a multidimensional rubric.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am able to create classes that can function just as well when we meet in person or when we meet online or even when students need to work through the course materials on their own. We have had multiple disruptions just in the past few months that have required faculty to quickly pivot from in-person instruction to remote instruction. Brightspace has allowed me to develop my classes in a way that requires no changes when making this pivot.

User Friendly

What do you like best about the product?
The layout of D2L is straightforward to navigate. It is user-friendly and relatively self-explanatory. It is easy to find information and upload documents, attachments, etc.
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish there were an option to edit Discussion posts on the student end. I believe it may be possible to do so, but perhaps it has been disabled by the instructor.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
D2L makes it easier than ever to take classes online without feeling like there is a disconnect between students and instructors. It's an immersive environment that does a good job of replicating the experience of an on-ground course.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I highly recommend D2L Brightspace. It is easy to use and helps to give online students an authentic on-ground class experience.

What do you like best about the product?
Student performance tools for both staff and students
What do you dislike about the product?
My lack of knowledge to use PowerBI for enhanced analytic exposure.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are defining learning, teaching, and assessment standards in the university. The templates and structure ensure that all teaching components are aviaable
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Brightspace is innovative and supports the learning and teaching experience. An enhanced user experience is created with easy integration of other third-party software. Performance management (staff and students) creates an opportunity to identify Students@Risk as part of the management strategy.

Advancing the learning experience with D2L partnership.

  • February 07, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Partnerships are key. Our customer success manager is always quick to respond and partner on faculty development activities. With Brightspace, I can design learning experiences with an eye to UDL and visual learning.
What do you dislike about the product?
Learning content can be limited to linear approach to learning. I look forward to more networked, non-linear design options. I like the changes in the Assignments tool.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
My biggest challenge is driving sustained student engagement in fully online courses. Working with the D2L and Bongo teams have been helpful.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
You've used one, you've used them all. Customer support and collaboration makes all the difference. Our D2L reps have earned A+ grades.

Works, But lacks the intuitive features that other LMS provide.

  • February 04, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It has a large user base. Which is helpful when needing to troubleshoot or find information regarding behaviors of recent updates.
What do you dislike about the product?
It does not provide an intuitive or beginner-friendly interface.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have created shells outside of classroom use: training repositories learning communities. The benefit is providing these needed training's and groups to folks across disciplines or even outside of our institution.
