Review of Brightspace
What do you like best about the product?
The organization, everything is easier to find and the possibility of having direct grading rubrics in the exams helps with student feedback.
What do you dislike about the product?
It is a bit difficult to do the migration of the grades and the import, especially to place comments for each of the students.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Space, task organization, and the agenda help organize the work environment.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If different management platforms are used, learning from this one is quite simple.
More than a client, an ally
What do you like best about the product?
Communication and feeling that D2L is an ally in the strategic goals of my organization. Spaces like the Customer Success Program (CSM) are necessary and indispensable to understand that I have a whole team supporting me and not just that I bought a platform that I can very likely maximize and customize according to my needs.
What do you dislike about the product?
That they only now call us to such spaces. It would have been more strategic at the beginning of the pandemic when the needs for virtual training grew rapidly.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
LMS requirements with the highest technology for advanced training students. The benefits for my students are access to a robust platform, simple to use, compatible, and offering important tools for interaction and knowledge management.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
The support is good and the technology is constantly being updated to offer more and better options.
There is something about Brightspace...
What do you like best about the product?
I like having everything on the same platform: the possibility to have tests, activities, materials, etc.
What do you dislike about the product?
I'm not too fond of having my virtual classes on the platform compared to other options like Teams. Also, if I use another platform like Zoom, getting my videos on is way too complicated.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I can have better communication with my students and have everything more organized and in one place.
Lots of tools and constant evolving
What do you like best about the product?
I love the variety of tools available in Brightspace, which allows you to find new and better ways to do the things you need with your courses or organization.
I love the quality and good performance on every tool, it's hard to find a bug.
I love the continuous evolution in each tool and the creation of new functionalities.
The roles and permission tools are very complette an easy to administrate, It allows you to create any rol and configure it's permissions for evey tool in the system.
It's possible to integrate other systems with D2L Brightspace using LTI. There are tools for massive loads of information to the system, like the creation of courses, users and enrollments, so it makes easy to start using Brightspace.

What do you dislike about the product?
Documentation isn't easy to understand, and sometimes, I can't find what I need. Documentation is not covering advanced topics; sometimes, it's only covering the most essential issues or configurations.
It comes with many mathematical tools for adding mathematical formulas, but it doesn't allow the usage of Share LaTex with its normal labels, you need to remove some labels normally added when writing with LaTex for getting it to work.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Course management, integrations with other institutional applications, learning outcomes management, grade book management.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It's easy to use, with many tools to reach every need the organization has. The support and the sales representatives are kind and willing to help. You get invitations every time to learning events. There are constant updates with new features or integrations.
Great LMS for University Professors
What do you like best about the product?
It is intuitive, easy to learn and organize the content in it. Its customizable and a great tool to allocate your courses. Videos, audios, pdfs, etc load perfectly. Colors are really attractive. Easy to make questionaires. Grades are easy to manage as well. Special restrictions are great when you have students that have problems loading homework or other activities.
What do you dislike about the product?
In other languages, words are not translated correctly. This is for the specific case of countries in LATAM. Loading videos from Zoom takes a while. This is frustrating. However, I´m confident with the integration of Panopto, this will not be a problem anymore. I don´t like that I cannot have a student for doing trials. It is really different to view as a student than to try everything as a student. You cannot submit files and see if all is working properly in the view as a student feature.
Additionally, the mail app is not friendly enough. It took me a while to learn how to send emails which was the only non intuitive part of the LMS.
One thing I dislike is the view of quizzes. There´s a lot of room to improve there. Also, pdfs and ppts loaded in the content section should have the possibility to load in a different window to be able to see them bigger.
Fonts should also include the font use as default. I have found a way of pasting my question in questionaries by downloading the font from internet (google fonts), but it is frustrating that you paste your questions and you cannot get your questionaire to look consistent in some questions due to this.

I have been trying multiple functionalities and trying to give feedback to my IT department. It is easy to find solutions to improve the LMS. I use it mainly to allocate my courses for my students. After a year of trying it i can say now that I am an expert in the LMS but it took me while to get familiar with all functionalities.
In terms of benefits, great customer service. Easy to get solutions from youtube from other users. Lots of universities using the LMS and lots of info on how to get things done from the web.

An excellent educational tool
What do you like best about the product?
The customizable tools, as well as the monitoring of the progress of each student
What do you dislike about the product?
Virtual classroom space: powered by Bongo
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The most useful has been the organization of classes by modules and spaces for evaluations
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Use the support tools offered
Good platform
What do you like best about the product?
The possibility of generating adaptive learning processes. It is a very good tool that supports institutions in the process of personalizing learning.
What do you dislike about the product?
The "navigation" paths that are generated. It seems unnecessary to generate so many clicks to view content: if I create a task, instead of seeing it on the first page I open, a button appears on that page which, when clicked, shows me the task on a page outside the course (a new Internet window). This can cause confusion for the students.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
At the moment, I am not solving any problem.
Brightspace works for me
What do you like best about the product?
Many features work well in Brighspace. With COVID distance learning, it has been helpful to upload material, links and do my evaluations (exams and quizzes) online. I like that I can organize my modules and check on class progress, also that I can send an e-mail to students that are missing assignments or if there is an announcement that I need to make. I like that I can grade papers using rubrics and writing comments on the document itself. I can download the paper WITH the comments and markups (as I have to turn in all evidence to university administrators. There are features that my university does not have (but I understand Brighspace has available).
What do you dislike about the product?
Our university uses Brighstspace in Spanish. Some of the translations make features not evident (I expect you have chosen to use neutral Spanish to avoid regional differences, but then we need to figure out what the features are, when it is not a common word. I want to download graded rubrics (as I mentioned before, my university requires us to turn in "evidence" if a student wants a grade reviewed). I would also like to have rubrics available for essay questions on exams to make grading more straightforward and not figure out partial points by hand. I like that turn-it-in is incorporated into the system; however, half the time, it says it could not analyze the document saying that it will do it once the due date has passed (even though the due date has passed). So it might be a case of making sure Turn it in is fully activated in the system. It's probably that I don't know how to fix this, but my students panic because they see grades missing in "assignments" that I haven't given them, like debates, blog etc. They must be automatic in the system, but I don't know how to get rid of things in the gradebook that they don't need.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I can have assignments, reading material, and additional learning material (ie videos and activities) all in one place. My students can follow up on their grades on the syllabus and can see in their student progress report if they are missing things. It makes distance learning more manageable. However, I plan to continue using Brightspace even after we return to regular classes. Brighspace helps me to keep organized; as long as all papers and exams are on the platform, I don't have to worry about them.
It has been a very good experience
What do you like best about the product?
That even though the project is about to conclude, they continue to follow up with the success stories program.
What do you dislike about the product?
The problem in integrating tools such as Zoom
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
To provide a better experience for our students
Recommendations to others considering the product:
That when starting to work with D2L they consider a compact team.
Teaching and learning management in one place
What do you like best about the product?
Having all the elements of my teaching process in one place: from contents to student grades.
Being able to create the test using the test utility and the question library is awesome.
I like how I also have access to my older courses so I can compare with the new ones.
The interface is clean and easy to navigate.
It's a web-based application, to I can access my courses from where ever I am working. It is also easy to access from a mobile device or tablet, so I can always access my courses from my office or home.

What do you dislike about the product?
I would probably like more fluidity between screens/menus.
A video-conferencing utility could be really usefull, this would avoid the need of a third party software.
I definetly need more options for creating STEM tests: for example, having different formulas in the numerical questions, not only one, as it is now. It not something I dislike, but definely something to improve.

Teaching and learning management of my STEM courses.
In particular, I define my course structure (grading system, presentations, shared documents, creation of differents activities for students) and I can manage all this activites with D2L during the semester.

Recommendations to others considering the product:
I recommend the option that allows teachers to copy courses and its contents from one semester to another, this is really helpful when planning a new course. This can include all course structure, presentation, test aming other elements.
It is also useful to follow student performance and have information about how often the login into the course contents, this helps to keep track of students' learing process.
