Brighstspace in Distance and Hybrid learning
What do you like best about the product?
Working with my in-person class and my students at home via Brightspace has made this experience much easier during this hectic year. It has been a real life saver to have this platform to integrate all my classroom needs in one place. The fact that I can post work, that students can submit their work, make comments, grade, do videos, add supporting multimedia material, have control of submitted assignments, send emails to students. I do not have to hop form one site or platform to the other, it is all in one place and its a real life saver!
What do you dislike about the product?
Make copy paste simpler, it is a bit complicated the fact that you need to take too many steps when posting work or material. I would also add the feature of emailing parents from the email feature.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Hybrid learning has been more accessible with Brightspace, students know where to find everything. Announcements, grades, emails, assignements, all in one place gives continuity to students in this hectic times.

Recommendations to others considering the product:
I think my only recommendation would be to be friendly with ATLAS, I think that is the only thing with which it is not friendly, since you cannot enter the notes by that means but the rest is super good
As I say I have not presented any problem with the platform and it is super easy to use

D2L - Keeps getting better
What do you like best about the product?
Hands down the continuous delivery! Well organized, advertised and easy to enable.
What do you dislike about the product?
S3 needs some work to automate. Tedious setup but does work well once it is set up. Can be time-consuming.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Through Insights and DataHub we are growing the ability to provide detailed information to faculty and students.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
There is a financial commitment but the product really enables your end-users, faculty and staff, to be self-sufficient and experiment as needed. The API is great to work with and the support team is very responsive and engaged in finding solutions. I'm not sure you will find the same levels with other vendors.
D2L Gets The Job Done
What do you like best about the product?
What I like best about D2L would bit its simplicity. Besides the grade book section, it's not very complicated at all. Most of the tools are straightforward and very useful. If you have any problems with the tools, the D2L youtube page has tons of tutorials to help! My personal favorite part would have to be all the ways I can personalize the courses for instructors. Changing the overall look/feel of a course based off if the course is art or science really helps give the students the feel that they are in the right place.
What do you dislike about the product?
The grade book section would probably be what I dislike the most. It doesn't seem very easy, and there are a ton of grading strategies instructors want to use but cannot figure out how to complete it. I understand the grade book section should probably be the most complicated feature but I wish it was more user friendly. Even as an administrator, I have issues navigating the grade book at times.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Well, the most significant current problem we are solving is course access due to Covid. D2L is allowing us to make sure students still receive the complete educations they deserve. Students have an easy time taking their courses, completing the contect, and graduating on time thanks to the tools provided by D2L. D2L also allows us to reach more people in their goals to get a higher education degree.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Of course, every LMS system will have some minor flaws. Knowing the weaknesses of D2L, I would still highly recommend this learning system to other users. The bright spots by far outshine the flaws. Whether you are using this for education or using this for training, D2L allows you to mold the environment to something that best fits you. Helping you in all aspects of training and education, so your employees and students come out fully educated on the topics at hand.
D2L Brightspace was an essential tool for my college during the global pandemic.
What do you like best about the product?
I like how the product's intuitive tools and design made it easy for faculty already using some features pre-pandemic shutdown to adapt and use more features, especially the discussions and quiz tools. Our students love being able to keep tabs on their grades when their instructors use the grades tool, too.
What do you dislike about the product?
Using an LMS is a significant culture change for instructors who are uncomfortable with using technology. Therefore, it was harder to convince such individuals to adopt it. It was intimidating to them, and they did require a lot of extra one-on-one instruction time. I also wish it was easier to perform granular assessments of learning objectives, as the data reports are not very user-friendly.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have started using Brightspace for collecting student-wide documents and for setting up courses for our student services departments. Our departments do not lose documents in emails if using Brightspace, and information is collected and shared in a secure setting.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
D2L Brightspace may not be as well-known as Blackboard, Moodle, or Canvas, but it is a solid competitor in the LMS market. It has been a great tool that our faculty consistently use to provide our students with quality learning experiences. Our faculty members like how they can use many or just a few of the features provided to help supplement their in-person teaching. They especially like the grading functionality of the quizzes and annotated grade tool within the Assignments tool.
Learner-centric, customer-driven, user friendly, forward-thinking, continuous improvement.
What do you like best about the product?
Learner-centric, customer-driven, user friendly, forward-thinking, continuous improvement.
What do you dislike about the product?
I would like to see when you purchase D2L; you get access to all of their great products instead of having to purchase packages.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
When we run into an issue, we put in a ticket. We are currently working on CBE.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I strongly encourage the adoption of D2L for your institution. They are innovative; they are listening to their consumer on needs and making adjustments based on feedback. They are constantly working to improve and provide data for improvement. D2L is also working to collect data to meet accreditation needs. I like where they are at and where they are going for the future of education.
