Great end-to-end solution for certification programs
What do you like best about the product?
Competency-driven assessment design that supports blind reviews associated with custom rubrics. Course designers love content designing using Brightspace provided HTML templates and elements. Very intuitive for users. No training required.
What do you dislike about the product?
Subcompetencies can't be shared in different courses than their parent competencies.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Brightspace validates the competencies required for our teams to execute on our current business projects. We wouldn't be able to offer a legally defensible program in a single end-to-end solution without Brightspace's robust combination of blind reviews, deep item analysis and the ability to link objectives to assessments and assignments at any level -- enabling competency-based reporting that measures results any level of the organization.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Map your organizational structure out for 3-5 years growth before deciding on your org structure.
Modern and Robust Learning Management System
What do you like best about the product?
There is quite a bit of flexibility and potential built into Brightspace. It is rare that we are totally unable to find a solution to something that our faculty is looking for. The tools available are appropriate and there is plenty of flexibility to integrate other items and products.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some of the features in Brightspace are present but not quite ready for primetime. While it is nice to get access to a tool that doesn't have all features for it built yet, it can be an issue when we adopt something new and then it changes shortly after.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Besides the standard teaching and learning initiatives, we are able to put data into our administration's and advisor's hands to help with retention and student success initiatives.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Brightspace is a fantastic platform. Make sure you take your time during implementation to ensure you get the platform set up correctly. Your decisions will impact your long-term goals and initiatives in the platform. Really think through your goals and your long-term goals as you are setting it up. Some things are easy to fix in the future, but some can be really challenging. Think big and scale appropriately.
Continually Impressive
What do you like best about the product?
Brightspace has a great UI that makes it easy for both learners and faculty to utilize the system quickly. The multifaceted ways to access elements within a course or module is helpful to meet the variety of preferences users have. Additionally, their commitment to taking customer feedback through the Product Idea Exchange and hearing the voices of clients makes this one of the best platforms I've ever used. Their commitment to customer service is not flawless but is far superior to their competitors. We all have room to grow and D2L Brightspace is committed to growing and developing in every way.
What do you dislike about the product?
While the multifaceted access options are helpful, it can be confusing for new users at times until they become accustomed to the layout and function within Brightspace. I wish bulk editing was a bit easier in some areas but in all honesty that could be a user error or misunderstanding of directions. The one major dislike which is really minor in the scheme of things, is the error messages students encounter when attempting to upload an assignment file are far too generic to be helpful. 99% of the time it is a file name issue so resolving this by either allowing more special characters, refining the message, or even notifying before an upload of the file name restrictions, would be incredibly helpful and reduce the number of helpdesk tickets that are worked for such a simple issue.

DATA! Data is always a hot topic when it comes to learning and assessment. Our previous LMS had such limited data, but now we can analyze and use the additional tools through the DataHub, S3, and the insights portal to better identify students who are at-risk. Intervene with both students and faculty as needed, in addition to rolling this out to use for regular training of faculty and staff which improves overall efficiency. The price cannot be beaten, especially when we were able to get so much more access to data to make better decisions and provide better learning experiences for students.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Review all your options, ask LOTS of questions, and dig into the weeds-- will this capability still work in the next 6 months or year? or is it going to be sunsetted because of a new improvement coming out?
Great Product and Greater Company
What do you like best about the product?
The platform has great options of customization, but simple enough to pick up for newcomers. They have great documentation resources in their community site and even developer/API documentation if you really want to get fancy. Also the platform has a clean design with all the features you would want out of an LMS and many you didn't even know you wanted!
What do you dislike about the product?
Brightspace has been around for some time, and there are many 'legacy features' that have yet to be updated or phased out. This is not to say they never will be, but there are some inconsistencies and outdated parts. Most of these are non-core/essential features that an instructor or student using the platform likely wouldn't notice because they aren't heavily used. In contrast, core features of Brightspace are great and update very regularly. However, the focus of D2L's development team looks to be focused more on improving core features that sees heavy usage and implementing new features, rather than keeping the entire site consistant.

Working in a College/University, Brightspace has been a great platform to allow us to host classes entirely online, and it's great for enhancing our traditional in-person offerings as well. Due to the flexibility of Brightspace we were even able to integrate other processes to do things like advising, student surveys, course evaluations, program evaluations, and so much more.
Plus the data availability gives us great insights into how our instructors and students are using the platform. This information have been extremely valuable to identify gaps and learning impacts to better serve our students.

Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you want to see what Brightspace is like, check out the Brightspace Community website: https://community.brightspace.com/. That is a great place to connect with others currently using the tool right now. People are very responsive and it feels like you have so much more support/help than just relying on regular help resources (i.e. direct support, documentation, etc.)
Love using D2L Brightspace
What do you like best about the product?
Ease of use and variety of tools. The tools are 2nd nature to use and solve day to day problems related with teaching.
Constantly improving and updating. Each month updates come out. They take suggestions from users on how to improve their current tools or on creating new tools and then actually do it.
Customer service is usually excellent. The company really cares about its users and constantly seeks to improve with feedback from their users. They offer yearly conferences that are extremely helpful in learning about the programs and new tools.

What do you dislike about the product?
As with all technology there are glitch and compatibility issues. Some students have trouble with technology and it may take a little bit of time in order to resolve the issues. Most of the time it is with browser compatibility. There is always room for improvement and always room for new tools. Education is always changing and it is their job to keep up with new trends. Sometimes these updates are a little slow.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It has made virtual learning SO much easier. The students know exactly where to go and what to do. The instructors are able to be creative with how they operate their courses. It helps to make the virtual experience more like the in class room experience.
Making education more accessible has become easier with closed captioning as a part of their video tools. Also making the assignments/quizzes more accessible with options for certain students to have more time/resources/etc.

Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you are in education you should definitely look into using this platform. Your students would greatly benefit from the tools and ease of use!
Advanced Learning Platform
What do you like best about the product?
Modern interface. Variety of tools. Security.
What do you dislike about the product?
Not all tools are well developed for large class sizes. Group creation and class progress difficult to manage for large classes.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Online delivery of curriculum. We have moved completely away from paper-based learning.
Great LMS
What do you like best about the product?
The grading worklfow. The way the rubrics, dropboxes and gradebook work so well together. This is the main reason the teachers at our college keep coming back to using Brightspace instead of other tools. Also, the frequent updates that fixe bigs and update features helps keeping the plateforme in good working order. We've had a few problems after some updates but these are quickly resolved at the next monthly update or quick fix patch.
The mobile experience. Brightpsace adapts well to mobile devices and the Pulse app has been really helpful for our students mobile learning experience. Our uptake of Pulse has been great this year.

What do you dislike about the product?
Some new features come that I really like (like the new content experience) but then it seems that development stops. I really like the tool but it's not quite ready yet, oit seems. I wish that new features would thoroughly tested so that they properly replace the tools they were meant to replace. As a smaller college it would be relatively easy for us to upgrade to new experiences but it seems they are never really ready when they first launch. another example of this would be the new quizzing experience. It took a long while for it to feel ready for use.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
One solution for all our teaching and learning needs. It's a complete set of tools. The new updates and tools that have been added minimizes the use of other plateformes. (example: the video submissions in the dropbox)
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Start with the new experiences from the beginning (content, quizzing, dropbox etc) These are superior tools and it will be harder to make the switch to them if not set up from the beginning.
My short 10 year experience with D2L
What do you like best about the product?
Intuitive user experience/workflow. Mostly consistent in functionality
What do you dislike about the product?
accessibility can be greatly improved, especially in the assessments (quizzing in particular, for special access). I think a more pedagogical approach can be good. Liaising with instructors in the field would be invaluable with increasing the pedagogy side of the learning management system,
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
remote learning problems. The only positive result of the pandemic is that it's forced instructor's out of their comfort zone, and into online teaching. We are also leveraging workarounds in 'gaps' of the learning management system.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
go for it, it's worth it...especially the assessments and grading functionalities!
D2L Brightspace review
What do you like best about the product?
I like that the program is robust and I am able to create courses. I like that the support that they provide to us and are open to feedback so the program can be modified for us and the community as a whole.
What do you dislike about the product?
In the same lines about making changes it does take longer for certain features to develop as there are so many great ideas from the community.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am in a higher education field and it is the repository for all of our courses so that students can get to their content.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I have no further recommendations.
D2L has been a very user friendly, robust system.
What do you like best about the product?
I enjoy the layout. Especially when there was a move to Daylight. User friendly, easy to use and ease in creating a very engaging course. I also love that the president of the company is very involved. I train faculty on the system and it is very easy to train and instructors find it easy to use.
What do you dislike about the product?
I do not like the third-party tool, by Bongo, virtual classroom. I also feel like the gradebook could use some updates. I do not like the categories. Besides that, job well done!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Since COVID it has been proven we can be fully online with D2L and be very present and engaging for our students. Benefits have been big. Instructors are able to get their information online and provide their students support.
