Analytics for Everyone
What do you like best about the product?
With the latest release of Cognos Analytics, Analysts, now more than ever, can uncover insights and correlations within data that would otherwise not be found. The addition of Watson Analytics capability has made it easier for users to better understand data visualizations and make faster decisions. In addition, the Watson Assist allows users to ask questions of their data and leveraging the software's internal AI, receive recommendations on data packages, objects, visualizations and more. I'm a huge fan of the latest version, 11.1.
What do you dislike about the product?
Need to incorporate an on prem mapping capability. I support the Federal space and many clients have a need for maps, but their environments make it difficult to use a web based mapping system.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
So much easier for users, who may not be hard core analysts, obtain insight.

User friendly self service features, and a powerful report builder.

Dashboarding tools offer limited customization.

Creation of standardized reports and dashboards to enable users to access a common set of KPI"s.
Cognos has been instrumental in its ability to meet reporting needs of our government customer.

Cognos has several installations within many of our government customers who use its scalabale delivery of business reporting capabilities.,
What do you dislike about the product?
There is nothing about Cognos that our customers who are using it disline.

Cognos offers a scalable offering that is both agile and effective.

Ease of use, variety of options, visualizations to choose from

Uncertainty of the data sources to use for dashboards, reports - packages, data sets etc

Advanced reporting capabilities - pretty robust functionality

all my researchers are cognos addicts. they are very well in building reports and they like the visualization possibilities

What do you like best about the product?
I feel that the cognos suite of analytics is a phenomenal too for clients to develop key insights in order to develop KPI's and to continue to serve organizations.
What do you dislike about the product?
The initial set up can be cumbersome in some client environments. If the client has a smaller environment and not enough resources to analyze data or set up adequately, finding resources to properly make use of the data can be a challenge as well.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Gain better insights into the clients business, being able to develop KPI's surrounding not only growth initiatives but also a better ability on evaluating current business practices and the value they bring to the business

What do you like best about the product?
Cognos community and support is most helpful. From a feature point of view, the ability to develop and extend analytics and reporting beyond basic demands i important.

Diversity of ingestion of data from dissimilar platforms / sources

cost savings on labor / traning
Recommendations to others considering the product:
compare multiple products however possible
Data Modules... New improvements coming regularly
What do you like best about the product?
I like that I have this trusted product which is working to evolve itself to become more intuitive to use for new users. We like the new data modules providing access to data sources to more users.
What do you dislike about the product?
With the fast upgrades, the documentation/training material has become outdated very quickly and hard to get a hold of.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Access to more data sources for targeted data reporting.
Positive with more Analytics needed.
What do you like best about the product?
I like that as an IT member, we can expose data using a Framework Model and Data Package then the business can drag-and-drop whatever they want to create their own Report and Dashboard.
What do you dislike about the product?
Creating a conection directly to a Data Source, without creating a Framework Model and Data Package, is very limiting in what the users can do.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Allowing the business community to create their own Reports and Dashboards without waiting for IT.
