Very good software that works very well between its different parts, but there is a learning curve
What do you like best about the product?
Workiva is a very good company that offers a fantastic cloud-based suite of products with WDesk. These offerings work very well with each other, even across company departments, so data fields from one department can be linked into documents/fields in other departments for easy updating. There is a bit of a learning curve to WDesk because even though it looks like Word, Excel, etc., it does behave a bit differently from those, so things you would expect it to do like those natively, it either doesn't do (currently) or it does it in a different way. Often there are ways to work around this, but it is just good to know going in that you have to learn the specific tools within WDesk. That said, the team at Workiva is constantly working to enhance WDesk in increase the usability and tools within the suite, and they often take feedback from their customers to learn about what features are most important to them that they should work to build out.
What do you dislike about the product?
It is all cloud-based, which is a blessing and a curse at times. Since the way I use the product often has many references or links across many different documents - making changes to source data can sometimes be problematic, and making small updates could have large impacts if it is incorrectly done. I wish there was a way to make a "testing environment" version of the documents based on their current state, to make sure everything works/updates as intended before having it all go live.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The annual updating of annuity prospectus updates and having all my fund data feed directly into the legal filings of those prospectuses.
Financial Reporting Process
What do you like best about the product?
After working with our implementation partner, it was easy to implement. It does take some getting used to, as most software installs do, but after a while, the functionality is very user friendly and easy to navigate within the system. I use Workiva frequently, as I work directly with the audit reports, so having something that is user friendly was a huge benefit to me. Year 1 is a big lift to input all information, but the year 2 integration should be much smoother and more efficient.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is no rollforward feature for financial reporting/audit reports. The fact that you have to manually copy folders and update dates to rollforward, feels a little clunky and old. I think this entire process could be automated that once an audit report is complete for the fiscal year, you could push a button to roll forward you files, where the current year numbers become the prior year numbers and leave blanks until the current year numbers are input.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It is creating efficiencies within our financial reporting process, which is streamlining the audit reporting on our end, and cutting down the amount of time spent preparing the audit reports. We also have 14 different audit reports we issue, and consistency across the audit reports used to be a problem. Now, with the linking feature of Workiva, we don't have consistency issues.
Open minded to new ideas, customer needs. Responsive to inquiries & consistent in providing updates.

User friendly system especially for those who aren't tech savvy...intuitive

What do you like best about the product?
Functionality of inputting data into the tool. The markup feature that allows for easy attribute testing of different controls. Easy to use everyday.
What do you dislike about the product?
Creating graphs or flowcharts becomes very finickity when trying to create clean documents. When linking data in Workiva, sometimes multiple tables are needed to reference each other instead of just the source updating the finished document.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Central location of all audit SOX testing and work. We aren't reliant on every auditor maintaining their work on their own computer and use Workiva to consolidate all the testing in one place.
Compile 10-Q and 10-K reports (and more) using Workiva.
What do you like best about the product?
All of the linking from workbooks to documents is quite helpful.
What do you dislike about the product?
The Excel functionality within Workiva could be upgraded.

The ability to easily track reviews of documents and collect official sign offs.

Sometimes the platform is slow to load or requires me to reload the page when there are multiple users in a document.

They are helping us understand the functionality of the enhanced platform and how that would support our existing processes.

few limitations with word document, there should be how to videos on the platform for learning or easy access to them or some short tour when you open the platform

Product is intuitive to most users and provides key functionality.
What do you like best about the product?
Core functionality is very intuitive and consistent with similar applications like MS Office so that adoption can be quick and most users can quickly understand how to complete most simple tasks. The application continues to evolve and add or enhance features over time.
What do you dislike about the product?
Certain of the workflow functionality can be slightly more difficult to set up and is a little less intuitive which requires having dedicated resources to perform those tasks. Though support in the form of user forums and FAQ's are generally good.

Effectively it provides a workflow solution and streamlines the aggregation of detail from multiple constituents
Workiva for Sustainability Disclosures
What do you like best about the product?
We really appreciate the collaborative nature of Workiva, the ability to automate review requests, and the audit readiness it allows.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes when there are a lot of reviewers in the same document, it's slow and clunky.
