Proofpoint has changed our threat landscape

  • June 09, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Proofpoint Email Security and Protection is:

- Easy to set up
- Easy to manage
- Very accurate at blocking threats
- Very accurate at blocking emerging threats

Proofpoint makes the job as a security administrator very easy. There are some solutions that require constant management in order to get full value out of the solution. Proofpoint is a set it and leave it solution. You do not need to manage the product every day. Once the professional services team finishes onboarding, there isn't much else that needs to be configured other than minimal changes unique to your organization.
What do you dislike about the product?
I do not like that you have to bounce between a few different dashboards to utilize all Proofpoint products. I know this is something they are working to resolve, but it makes it somewhat cumbersome to bounce between interfaces to see all tools. The dashboard looks somewhat outdated, but there is a new admin dashboard that is constantly being upgraded, but it still does not have all the features so you need so you have to bounce between old and new dashboards.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Proofpoint Email Security and Protection completely changed our threat landscape. We were previously using an on-premise solution from a different vendor and it was struggling to keep up with today's latest threats. Upon implementing Proofpoint, I immediately saw threats that would have previously made it past our gateway, were being blocked and the machine learning aspect of Proofpoint was learning from incoming messages to harden mail flow to our end-users. Each month after implementing Proofpoint, I saw the percentage of mail being blocked rise until we hit 99% protected. I have been thoroughly impressed with how Proofpoint has improved the overall security of our mail flow and the integration with other Proofpoint products is seamless and our threat landscape is much smaller.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Proofpoint is amazing! The product is amazing, the ease of use is amazing, the quality of support is amazing. Proofpoint has met all the needs we have required of it and so much more. If you are in the market for moving to a new email security solution, I would highly recommend Proofpoint.

Well rounded and complete email security

What do you like best about the product?
I like how email is checked and can be tagged when it comes into our environment. I am looking forward to investigating the protection for sending email to the wrong recipient, with sensitive data, or against certain policies. I am very excited about the introduction of the micro learning and tips and want to see how they work.
What do you dislike about the product?
I like everything I saw. I am very impressed that you seem to have thought of most things we have been wanting.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The protection of our environment and giving our people clues or nudges to take a second look or stop and think before acting on a message is huge. I think making the reporting a pop-up "button" will make reporting easier (easier than looking for a button in the ribbon). I think getting people aware and thinking about security is a big challenge. Some of what I saw goes a long way in keeping security in the forefront and also makes taking additional action easier and more straightforward.

A complete and secure solution for email protection

What do you like best about the product?
TRAPS auto delete feature, set and forget, saves time and $
What do you dislike about the product?
Multiple dashboards, it seems like each feature was bolted on not fully baked in
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Phishing protecting mostly, spam filter is nice too.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
You need TRAPS at a minimum to really unlock the value of the product. The auto pull feature is VERY nice. Our analyst now only have to look at just a few emails per day manually. Also the Phishing button with TRAPS allows auto-response to user requests with no human input, that's great for our already stretched SOC team

Ease of use coupled with continuous improvement has made this exhibit a great return on investment time and time again
What do you dislike about the product?
A single pane of glass for all systems would be great!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Phishing attacks and BEC has been increasing significantly. Proofpoint protection continually shows us we are being protected from these constant threats

One of the best products in the industry very pleased!

  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Well, first off, it has some stand-alone ability to cut down the person-hours. The longer you run it, the more accurate it becomes. Also so many ways to customize and build a more protective environment with plenty of options available. Very satisfied.
What do you dislike about the product?
It does so much, and it doesn't seem easy to use and implement all the components. That is not a bad thing at all. I have very few complaints but had to put something here :-) .
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I have realized the ability to weed out lots of garbage email and threats in the early stages. At the same time visibilty into users that are highly targeted and needs extra protection.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I would advise others to consider implementing this product into your environment. It gets stronger as you build on it.

Email Security a.k.a. Proofpoint-brand Sleep Aid

  • June 09, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I relish Proofpoint's approach of unifying their solutions. Presently there are two consoles used for Email Security, and it is not cumbersome to manage both separately. I enjoy the ability to manage my inbound filtering and outbound email DLP solutions in the same product.
What do you dislike about the product?
I am eagerly awaiting the release of the updated admin console. Searching through logs in the current console is cumbersome and tired.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We've reduced Unsolicited Commercial Email to record lows, largely vanquished attachment threats, neutralized URL threats, met common spam practices with extreme prejudice, and highly honor DMARC records at the gate. With all the noise reduction realized by our superlative ruleset, we can zero in on BEC & Ransomware threats much more easily.

Excellent for SME and Enterprise

What do you like best about the product?
Very flexible solution, all the options are there to adjust the mail flow to address even the most complex environments. The smart search also makes it easy to troubleshoot and resolve delivery issues. Their support is great and usually able to resolve issues in a timely manner.
The combination of Phish Alarm with TRAP saves a significant about of time needed to investigate incidents by automating part of the investigation and response process.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some of their terminologies can be confusing depending on your background. For example, if you have a network background it might take a while to realize that Policy routes in PP are more of a definition and not an action.

I would be nice if more of their products can be merged or accessed from one console (single pane of glass), I believe that they are making progress in this area, but there is still more room for improvement.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Protecting our organizations from modern threats. And enabling us to easily work with various 3rd party solutions to address our complex needs with ease.

We are also able to reduce our total cost of ownership by using automation vias custom actions and API integration with our other tools.

TAP and TRAP have been vital tools to help remediate any email that initially slipped past the policies. This combination has frequently been able to take action quickly and often before we are aware of the issue.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Take a look at their whole portfolio, things work better together.

Fantastic Protection from Gateway to Endpoint

  • June 08, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Proofpoint is at the forefront of innovation when it comes to email security. They are constantly acquiring new companies to push their areas of expertise.
What do you dislike about the product?
I have not found any areas that I dislike.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
One of the most complex problems Proopoint has solved is when a user clicks phishing emails when working from home. TAP (targeted attack protection) has solved this issue.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Great team. Easily reachable.

Probably Good for Enterprise, Not for SME

  • April 23, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Technology is, on the face of it, impressive. The ability to have users click a button and that email automatically removed from all affected inboxes (TRAP) is a really good feature.
What do you dislike about the product?
Where to start...
1. The proactive protection does not reliably block spam or phishing. We'll go a week or so without any user reports, then suddenly users will receive a barrage of phishing / spam in a few days. This week alone, we had 7 phishing attacks getting into people's inboxes in < 3 days and we're only a 400 user company.
2. When explaining these issues to customer service, they promise a lot of action to investigate and resolve issues, but these are empty. We are consistently ignored despite our pleas for help and despite us having multiple P2s and P1s open.
3. On customer service, we have been promised a feature called URL isolation for Very Attacked Persons for the last two months which is included in our P0 bundle. So far we've had a demo and promise to have it setup, but no further word. I even had one of their account managers state they were offering URL isolation for VAP to us as an apology for our issues despite us already having the feature included.
4. Unless you expressly ask, every single phishing email you report goes into a black hole of automated threat intel team response. We reported a phishing attack with a malicious html attachment received to 1 user at 11am, received an automated response telling us "indicators were blocked" etc. At 2pm, that same email and html attachment was used to attack another 20+ users, bypassing Proofpoint again.
5. Their recent update to 8.17 on Proofpoint Protection Server caused all custom spam modifier rules to fail. They still haven't fixed this after two months and provide no timelines on when it will be resolved.
6. TRAP will fail for no reason and stop acting on user reports. Like literally, all indicators will show green but it will stop pulling user reports and not tell you it's fallen over. You will have to constantly monitor the assigned abuse mailbox to ensure no user reports are staying in the inbox.
7. Slightly less of a serious issue, but every single console for Proofpoint has a different login.

Bottom line, I can't trust them or their product, which is shocking considering their standing in the industry and cost. I can only imagine as we're a tiny fish in a huge pond, they don't care about resolving our issues as much as the "big guys". Based on our experience, they might be OK for an enterprise who has the manpower to baby them, but SMEs should consider alternatives.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We hoped reduced spam / phishing, but see dislikes. Pretty much the only tangible benefit so far has been glossy graphs and interfaces w/ TAP and TRAP dashboards.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you're a big company, they might take you seriously so it might be worth taking a chance. SMEs: Look elsewhere. Mimecast, Ironscales, Avanan, Spamtitan, it might even be worth sticking with O365 over the headaches and pain we've endured.
