Recommended: Non-destructive image optimization and CDN

What do you like best about the product?
I've yet to find "the perfect" image optimization tool and CDN but Gumlet comes close. I manage approx. 100 WordPress sites and now use Gumlet (or ShortPixel Adaptive Images) for virtually all of them. For sites using Divi or with complex galleries and background layouts, many of the other image optimization tools I've tried seem to break something. I've tested premium versions of Gumlet, ShortPixel Adaptive Images, WP Compress, Imagify, Cloudimage, and Smush Pro. I've found Gumlet (and competitor ShortPixel Adaptive Images) to be the most reliable for optimizing and offloading images off my server via a CDN. If anything looks off, usually I can uncheck one of the few settings and it's resolved.

I like how Gumlet does not alter the actual images at all. It does all the optimizations via copies stored on their CDN. Some image-optimization plugins like Smush Pro and ShortPixel (though ShortPixel Adaptive Images is different) actually change and overwrite your images. They often create many variations of these images as separate files which then clutter up the media library and consume vast amounts of storage space (which can be a pain if you ever need to migrate the site). As I see it, altering a client's actual image files by degrading them to be web-optimized without a backup is a big negative (though the two mentioned above can make backups and revert things if needed) so I prefer to let Gumlet do this automatically. And even better, Gumlet will optimize each one for different devices, operating systems, browsers, and more (yes, even retina-ready images). Gumlet's CDN seems to be more SEO-friendly than ShortPixel's CDN.
What do you dislike about the product?
Not much to dislike. Most of the time it's "plug and play" and just works. On rare occasions I've had to reach out to Gumlet's support team regarding a few issues with some more complex WordPress configurations (usually related to image galleries). I've found their support team to be responsive and helpful. As noted above, I've not found any image optimization tool that works all the time on all configurations. That's why I've essentially made thinges easier for me by keeping both Gumlet and ShortPixel Adaptive Images in my toolbox. If one gives me some grief I pull out the other and it usually just works (Gumlet is easier to setup while ShortPixel AI has more configuration settings).
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Gumlet speeds up website content delivery to site visitors by shrinking and optimizing the images they are viewing from my hosted sites. It also prepositions these images around the globe on their content delivery network (CDN) for faster performance. These actions not only improve our site's speed but it offloads a lot of work for my servers. Almost anything I can offload from a server is a good thing (and usually reduces expenses too). Faster, better, less-expensive.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Very easy to use, very affordable (nice free plan too for small projects), and well-worth adding to your website to improve performance of your server and the experience of your visitors.

Best Image Optimizer

  • May 28, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Gumlet is fast and reliable. I am using it on all my websites from the beginning. It helps me to serve images faster through Amazon Cloudfront CDN. They also have outstanding customer support to answer your queries as early as possible.
What do you dislike about the product?
I didn't face any serious issues with Gumlet till this writing. But it would be better if there are free custom domains. Initially, they offered it in exchange for writing reviews. Unfortunately, I missed that opportunity.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Gumlet helped me to reduce the image loading time. There are two CDN types- Cloudfront and Gumlet. I am using Cloudfront CDN for faster image loading. It is useful to serve JavaScript and CSS files also.

Gumlet - a boon in the name of performance optimisation

  • May 28, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The performance optimisation that gumlet got to my 10 websites is beyond imagination. The gumlet CDN almost doubled my websites on performance. The gumlet CDN optimised videos are super on performance and SEO. It beats the speed of Youtube video plays.

We initially faced one typical issue with revolution slider, but that I understand is behind us now.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Performance optimisation of website images, videos and content distribution.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Instead of upgrading your servers to more expensive ones, first always look at performance optimisation tool like gumlet and beleive me you will save loads of money.

Don't believe other highly suspicious reviews...made our website slower!

  • March 15, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The only positive was the easy integration
What do you dislike about the product?
Made my website slower
Doesn't do what it's supposed to
Poor, non-responsive support
Grammatical errors all over the site
Many of their reviews are highly suspicious
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
None - the tool doesn't do what it's supposed to. We chose it because it was rated #1 on G2 for website image optimisation but I now realise that the majority of reviews for this product (which all look suspiciously similar) are more than likely fake.

We opted for the 'Pro' option and integrated it with our staging site. When we checked our site on various page speed tools after implementation, our site had become significantly slower. Images were not properly sized, were not using the correct format etc. Our scores on tools like Page Speed Insights had worsened.

We reached out to their support team via the chat function but nobody got back to us.

Overall - a waste of both time and money. Hopefully this saves others making the same mistake - I would not recommend.

Fast and reliable CDN for your website

  • January 21, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I've been a Gumlet users since a couple of months and I'm very happy with it.
Gumlet significally improves loading times of my websites by hosting all images on another server in the cloud.

The main features are:
- image caching (less load on my server)
- responsive images (images are automatically resized for each device)
- very easy to integrate (by adding a JavaScript to your source code)
What do you dislike about the product?
Gumletcan deliver images only. It would be great to use it for CSS, Javascript or maybe video, too.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It's not possible to clear the cache for all images at once. This means if you change one image on your server, you have to manually enter the filename in their backend (or use the API) or change the filename of your image. This can be a little bit confusing in the beginning.

Very easy to integrate with AWS S3

  • January 20, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Gumlet is an easy to use and easy to setup tool to deliver optimized images. The feature I like most is the ability to modify images on the fly, e.g. resize and crop to create consistent thumbnails.
What do you dislike about the product?
The maximum width and height for images are 8192px. Would great if they'd also support occasional images that are larger.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Optimize loading speed for visitors, more control on image display for ourselves.
