Onshape is an accessible, ever-improving cloud-based CAD software.
What do you like best about the product?
My favorite part about Onshape is the accessible support. If you have a bug to report, need help with a feature, or have an idea to improve, contacting Onshape is just a click away. Part studios are also amazing, allowing one to create multiple parts simultaneously. This method is fantastic when making multiple parts that are dependent on each other.
What do you dislike about the product?
I dislike how some of the features lack functions that feel very basic. (Either they are basic, or I've taken them for granted when moving from Solidworks.) For example, there is an easy way to implement slots in a part, but there is no feature to call out the slots in drawings, meaning one has to call them out manually. Another example is how using the 'replace part' function in an assembly breaks every single mate related to that part. The only way to fix the problem is to redo every mate one by one.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Onshape solves two main issues, in my opinion.
1- They allow us to easily share assemblies, parts, designs, etc., with customers as Onshape runs in just about any browser.
2- They allow us to cooperate as the cloud-based system can handle two people working on the same file simultaneously.
3- They have a very comprehensive Learning Center feature that shows in depth tutorials for every feature the platform offers, allowing one to very quickly become very proficient with the software.

Easy to use and constantly improving
What do you like best about the product?
The fact that it is in the cloud allows me to access my CAD from any computer anywhere. I also like the revision control and PLM features that are built in to the software.
What do you dislike about the product?
It can be slow to load larger models or models with many features/faces. This is not uncommon with CAD software but is still frustrating at times. A slow or spotty internet connection can exacerbate this.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Onshape is a solid CAD program that allows users to access their CAD anywhere. It also saves every feature you add or subtract meaning you never need to save documents so nothing is ever lost by mistake.
Accessibility
What do you like best about the product?
Accessibility. Accessible from any location. Reliability of configurations.
What do you dislike about the product?
Drawing update speed. Drawing updates at times can be slow.
Unable to lock view positions.
No "reset" command when views have some edges showing - some removed

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Reliable assembly configurations. Assemblies open correctly and reliably.
Ease of duplicating, renaming, and reusing existing files.

3D DESIGN
What do you like best about the product?
Interactivity among colleagues, availability everywhere via the internet, easy sharing, intuitive and fast 3D, cloud storage without the need for internal servers. Work speed.
What do you dislike about the product?
The 2D layout does not reach the level of other software, but there is great room for improvement and great potential. The management of holes is not exceptional, slightly cumbersome in some cases, both in 3D and 2D, and can be improved.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Being able to have an instant connection with colleagues even off-site, easy sharing for the production of designed parts, export of files in multiple formats requested by clients.
If it is not matching your expectation, it is probably doing it better!
What do you like best about the product?
The version management is amazing and has been a life-saver a few times.
Being able to share the models with our clients has been an impactful factor in winning jobs.
The Onshape team has been very consistent in releasing relevant and useful updates and features, which is much appreciated.

What do you dislike about the product?
The upcoming CAM function was promoted last year, with discussions on its release on March 2023. There hasn't been any updates ever since. As much as this could improve our manufacturing pipeline, not having it can have a negative impact. My expectation is to at least get a clear, updated schedule; so I can decide whether to get additional CAMWorks licenses or not.
Additionally, I like to see more support and documentation on connecting Onshape with the ERP systems, or using the API as it can greately affect our productivity.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Everyone has access to the drawings, regardless of their location and device. The view-only interface is enough for people without any CAD knowledge to use.
Kudos to Onshape!
What do you like best about the product?
Due to its agile product design approach , we are able to build products faster and run design sprints on hardware products flawlessly.
What do you dislike about the product?
Really nothing. It's the best Cad software for conceptual and engineering design.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It solves any team collaboration problem.
Onshape has created CAD platform that has irreversibly transformed my workflow as an engineer.
What do you like best about the product?
Onshape has revolutionized the way CAD and PLM/PDM systems integrate with my engineering workflow. They have made an incredibly powerful and easy-to-use platform.
I don’t waste any time with file management, checking out licenses, or convincing IT to buy a more powerful computer. I just jump onto my browser and start designing.
Here are some features that Onshape provides that have changed my workflow the most:
- Versions and History Tree (ability to compare, rollback, or branch from any point in the history of the document with an intuitive search interface)
- Fully customizable parametric configurations for variables, part/assembly features and properties, and view states
- All the features and tools you would expect from other professional CAD systems
- Easy to use sheet metal design tools and libraries for hardware, extruded framing, etc.
- Easy and customizable release management workflow
- Continuous (every 3 weeks) updates based on user feedback without interrupting workflow
- Seamless integration with third-party software packages
- Great training resources and powerful feature scripts (free feature addons) for things like gear train generation, wiring, cosmetic threads, etc.
- Powerful collaboration, sharing, and commenting between users and non-users (like vendors)

What do you dislike about the product?
I have used both Solidworks and Creo Parametric in a professional setting for most of my career. When I was initially introduced to Onshape I was skeptical about a web-based CAD platform, but this ended up being one of the most useful aspects of Onshape. It has opened the doors to productivity on any computer and saves a ton of time with onboarding new engineers since it doesn't require any software installation or local license management servers. I rarely find myself without internet these days since virtually all of my professional workflows (e-mail, google docs/sheets, google drive, etc.) require internet access.
Depending on how long you have used other CAD platforms, Onshape has a bit of a learning curve; however, this is efficiently mitigated by their great training resources. The more I used Onshape, the more other CAD platforms seem clunky and inefficient.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Onshape allows me to focus on design work without having to spend time on file management, slow interfaces to PLM/PDM packages, or my computer's performance. They also provide a powerful and easy-to-use interface for managing prototypes and released parts/assemblies.
A very stable platform for professional work! The 3 weekly updates are great .
What do you like best about the product?
No crashes like in SW!
No need to save!
No need to save!
What do you dislike about the product?
When the internet is down one cannot work
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Collaboration benifits
Revolutionary
What do you like best about the product?
Being cloud-based and focusing on ease of use.
What do you dislike about the product?
A few features found in older CAD apps aren't present.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Collaborative design of all of our hardware components.
Cloud-based parametric CAD
What do you like best about the product?
Cloud-based parametric CAD. You can log in, create and review your drawings anywhere.
What do you dislike about the product?
More bandwidth is required for bigger assemblies. Perhaps an option to use hybrid CADto download the files locally like a mirror/cache for large assemblies.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Onshape has plenty of room to grow and every release update has some improvements in work flow improving productivity.
