What do you like best about the product?
Browser based,, fairly, full-featured CAD system
What do you dislike about the product?
Not as responsive as a PC based application
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
No need for the latest high end workstation. Ability to travel with laptop or no computer at all.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
There is a trade-off between the ease of implementation and the ultimate efficiency for power users

Modern Stable Powerful

What do you like best about the product?
Onshape is continually up to date. I can upload files of other formats with no problems. We have a seat of Solidworks from 2018 but can not use files sent by clients that are newer than 2018. We have to use Onshape to use Solidworks files.
With Onshape, we've had no issues with crashing lost work or lost data.
A cost vs. power comparison between Solidworks and Onshape - Onshape comes out on top. All the features we need for our design work are available in an attractive logical user interface.
What do you dislike about the product?
The only dislike has become a like. When I first started using Onshape, I found the way mates work to be confusing. The reason for this is because of coming from Solidworks, which is different. After learning how mates work in Onshape, I find it easy.
It has not been an issue yet, but if the Internet is not available, I'm expect that might become an issue.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Creating concepts and even final designs for our small automation company is so much easier with Onshape. It is fast, user friendly, always up to date and is reasonably priced.

What do you dislike about the product?

What do you like best about the product?
The support team is excellent, and the functionality grows every day
What do you dislike about the product?
Certain browsers do not work well with Onshape.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Mating is much easier, and working from any computer anywhere is a huge plus. Not having to have the program installed on your machine is awesome.

Cloud CAD with aggressive update schedule

What do you like best about the product?
I love that it is very accessible from home, shop floor, etc.
What do you dislike about the product?
The drawings capability are still very poor.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The ability to quickly get a new user up and going has been very beneficial. Also the ability to do simple things like rename a document without breaking the file structure.
Recommendations to others considering the product:

CAD platform of the future

  • August 17, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Being able to easily and securely share designs across teams and suppliers all over the world, no file management and built-in data management. Branching allows for multiple design explorations, which is very helpful in the conceptual phase and later during optimization.
Onshape has a fresh take on CAD software and is also very reponsive on improvement requests .
What do you dislike about the product?
Responsiveness degrades on more detailed designs, just as other CAD systems, especially when creating drawings.
Learning curve can be steep for new users, as it defiates from traditional CAD.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Onshape makes Collaboration, secure sharing and datamanagement easy.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Onshape's basis is solid and has the potential to be the CAD system of the future.

    Mining & Metals

Onshape as a primary CAD tool in an Industrial environment.

  • August 16, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like the convenience of internet browser access to all my CAD data and zero (or practically zero) IT support required.
What do you dislike about the product?
Versioning, branching and revisions are all very powerful but they are a departure from typical CAD/PDM tools. It takes time to understand the tools and use them effectively. New users can find versioning, branching and revisions confusing, and a little frustrating. I think Onshape could try to emphasize training around these concepts to ease the learning curve for new users.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Communicating design information to stakeholders is so much easier when CAD data can be shared. Yes, I can email PDFs or the native CAD files, but that becomes an iterative process; I get feedback, make the changes, and email it again. Sharing once and commenting in the document is much simpler.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Approach Onshape with an open mind. Invest in the time it takes to understand and make full use of the benefits of Onshape and the way it handles your data. It's not just Solidworks in a browser.

Modern and convenient CAD tool which greatly helps with communication as well

  • August 16, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
With Onshape you don't need expensive hardware, nor can you forget to save your designs. This means that everyone in our organization is a potential user. The extensive online courses and tutorials help to get people on board and then improve quickly.
By using Onshape in different function groups within the organization, we were able to greatly improve the efficiency of communication and also involve our customers more in our (concept) design process.
What do you dislike about the product?
Onshape is developing quickly, but some functions you see in more traditional CAD programs are not (yet) available or work less intuitive than expected. But in general Onshape is working hard to solve those things.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Better communication, better understanding of design process, faster iterations, more involvement of sales and customer

Having all the projects on the cloud ensures to have the last version and available at any time.
What do you dislike about the product?
Multiple parts assembly can be long to charge
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Access with any devices, sharing view easily

Best CAD tool for SMEs

  • August 15, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Cloud Integration. No more duplicate file problems, lost un-saved data, multi-user working problems, etc. It's simply the best tool for its price. As this tool is based on cloud data, there is no need to purchase PLM tools; it has in-built PLM. They also have the support that responds in less than 24hrs, which helps solve your errors in no time. All in all, its the best CAD tool out there for SMEs and non-MEGA industries.
What do you dislike about the product?
Not much. If I have to write something I dislike, maybe I would like to see the user having a background color change option.
Drafting is not on par with software like CATIA, but they add new tools & updates to drafting every month. But this is not something I dislike, but I want to say, don't expect freedom as you find in software like CATIA, but their tools on drafting work 99% of the time.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I employ Onshape for R&D , Product Design, and Machine Design in Automotive Industry projects, Industrial Engineering
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Go for it.
