3D Printing Design Engineer Review
What do you like best about the product?
Super collaborative and easy to use. The cloud-based functionality is great!
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes it can get a little bogged down on really complex models. Not quite as advanced as Solidworks or Catia for extremely advanced designs.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The main benefit is being able to collaborate in real-time with clients and other designers. I am creating designs that are optimized for 3D printing.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
OnShape is the future of CAD. It is built for collaboration and making designing so easy.
Smooth cloud design
What do you like best about the product?
Onshape is a working cloud CAD system with a lot of design features. The transition from previous CAD systems (Creo, Catia V5, SolidWorks, and Inventor) was smooth and fast. The team is updating the CAD system regularly.
What do you dislike about the product?
There are some features I would like to see which are not yet implemented. The biggest drawback seems to be the missing offline capability and the lag we experience while working with large assemblies.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
As a newly created startup, we needed a CAD system with which we can work together from our homes and which doesn't cost a lot. We were delighted to have found Onshape with its integrated CAD storage solution, the ability to work together without any hassle of checking out parts and in. It just works.
Onshape works very well if you have a good Connection
What do you like best about the product?
I like the features that built into Onshape. Someone can learn some tricks from the online forum.
What do you dislike about the product?
I work primarily on a laptop and have a difficult time when I have any complex drawings at all.
I would recommend a computer with a lot of video processing and speed.
I would recommend a computer with a lot of video processing and speed.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I can create working drawings for our fabrication team and know that there won't be any interference.
It is great to have a CAD system that runs on all units without problems.
What do you like best about the product?
• A CAD system without Windows dependency.
• Import of “Old CAD constructions.
• A CAD system that does not require installation.
• A CAD system without files, servers and other infrastructure.
• Possibility of advanced PDM.
• Possibility to display models in 3D without a license.
• Easy management of users.
• The price.

What do you dislike about the product?
It can be a litlebit slow if your internet connection is unstable.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The advantage of not having any infrastructure, only internet connection needed.
Standard parts do not get lost in a server update etc.

Recommendations to others considering the product:
Get started as soon as possible
Complete, always up to date, solid CAD solution
What do you like best about the product?
We use Onshape since 2016. The best feature is that it's immediately available on any PC, updated and ready to go. It's well designed and continuously improved. It's easy to share design and work together. Drawings are vastly improving: I feel lost when I switch back to Autocad. It's powerful and works on any hardware, forget the expensive and clumsy workstations of the past.
What do you dislike about the product?
Being cloud-based, it's totally dependant on your bandwidth but I've used it successfully even with a moblie phone connection
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
With Onshape we started designing on day one without any significant upfront investment. The product gets better and better, its features are driven by the customers' requests.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Try it as we did in 2016 before applying for a subscription.
New way of managing projects
What do you like best about the product?
Possibility of exchanging information with us without having any 3D software installed and without using the endless series of emails
What do you dislike about the product?
A good modeling tool 3D that we’re sure will develop and mature in a short time
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
From December 2020 Onshape is an indispensable help for Faroplast in managing projects with our customers who in turn greatly appreciated the possibility of exchanging information
It was a big decision but a very good one, i'm glad we have choosen Onshape for our CAD Programme.
What do you like best about the product?
Being able to log in to 3D Cad from any device, knowing you are always in the latest version, and working on the same model with other colleagues live.
What do you dislike about the product?
Initial bringing work from previous CAD systems into Onshape. Having to restore the relationships, but the reward far exceeds the initial challenge.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It has made our team more productive.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If changing from one CAD system to another, prepare for a bit of pain initially, but you will reap the rewards long-term.
Easy collaboration and is available at every workstation.
What do you like best about the product?
My files are available on every computer, even shared workstations. When volunteering for our local first robotics high school team, we were able to work together on projects even though we were unable to meet in person. And when they were having trouble they could not solve through words, I was able to create a fork with the built-in versioning systems, show them some possible solutions with my own hands, and then take that knowledge back to their branch and continue by themselves.
What do you dislike about the product?
I have encountered a few bugs, mainly when exporting pdfs from drawings. I have been entirely out of luck when delivering paper prints to clients on a few occasions.
Also a few bugs when outputting DXFs, I have tried a few different programs and they all have the same problems with what is 'inside' and 'outside' even when it's on a single profile

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I have years of experience using dozens of cad packages from all price points and using them for many different applications. Onshape's rapid development schedule and the feature script add-ons have mostly kept pace with my needs as they have arrizon.
The most significant benefit is a happy customer. And the ability to send them a link, which they can open on any machine they happen to be using and provide feedback throughout any project guarantees they will love the final product.

Recommendations to others considering the product:
For those used to other CAD softwares, there's a slight learning curve when it comes to the part studios and how you can have multiple parts in one 'document'. Additionally, if these parts from the studios are placed correctly in an assembly, you can drive assemblies with minor changes in part studios without the need to create tons of mates (that usually end up breaking.) This and feature scripts are my personal favorites.
I love it! Never going back to SW.
What do you like best about the product?
Flexibility of work environment. Constant updates and new features.
What do you dislike about the product?
Being tied to WiFi when traveling. Spotty service really limits productivity. Would love to see improvements in iOS app.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Ease of onboarding due to simple layout and excellent tutorials. As I expand my designs, Onshape is there with a proper tool to follow through.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Embrace the differences between Onshape and SW workflows. It will save you a ton of time
Using Onsape has absolutely improved how our company develops and moves products to market
What do you like best about the product?
Being cloud-based, it's gives us the flexibility we need to work all across the country and across the globe. It allows us to easily share 3D models during meetings and communicate more effectively at all times concerning engineering information. Ease of use overall, and simplicity of the user interface specifically, make OnShape a win-win for companies and engineers.
What do you dislike about the product?
Honestly nothing! In my experience, this is hands down the best thought-out CAD program available today. I sincerely appreciate all that had to come together to make this product what it is and plan on using it long into the future!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Using OnShape has streamlined the communication and collaboration of our design team. Increased the speed of product development and also helped us to bring better quality products from concept to completion. Better data storage, retrieval, and project organization overall make it an effective software indeed
