Running CAD out of a database frees you from worrying about managing files.
What do you like best about the product?
Running CAD out of a database eliminates a lot of wasted time managing files or fixing them when something breaks. Onshape uses "git like" revision management system, except files, are not saved locally. Every revision is saved, and you can always go back and branch into a new workspace when you realize you have gone in the wrong direction.
Another big plus is assemblies use datum targets for mating parts which results in much more stable assemblies and is faster.

What do you dislike about the product?
One disadvantage is if there are highly complex part studios with lots of dependencies, regeneration when changes are made can get very slow. Regeneration happens on Onshape [AWS] servers, so this is not somthing a faster workstation can fix. Regeneration times are seldom an issue, but it occasionally requires some planning to limit the number of dependencies in a part studio.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use Onshape for product, machine tool, and tooling design. Onshape lets me work faster than systems like Creo or Solidworks, and I feel freer to focus on innovation rather than worrying about a PDM system or file system.
User from the beginning
What do you like best about the product?
Everything online, from tech help to data!
What do you dislike about the product?
Configurations are ridiculously powerful, but the update routine needs work
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am showing all variations of a product via configurations. This used to be something I could only accomplish thru code.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
do it sooner than later
Very great CAD software
What do you like best about the product?
Il like the thinking around the software
1 place to go for working on a project.

What do you dislike about the product?
You cannot preview the product with real finish texture. There are all flat color.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We can modify or adjust our product on the go and it's easier to make some mates
Fantastic Next-Gen CAD
What do you like best about the product?
Works on cheaper hardware. Great set of features. Updates every 3 weeks with new features.
What do you dislike about the product?
Missing some features, but new features constantly.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Clinical Diagnostics. Personal benefits being ease of administration compared to leading CAD competitors. Plus it works from anywhere, don't have to be stuck to a desktop.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I've used and adminsitered CAD for nearly 20 years. Onshape has made me the least frustrated - happy even.
I could even help to improve it already awesome
What do you like best about the product?
I am also a dedicated user of soliworks and since the original founders built Onshape - it allowed others to to distance themselves from Solidworks' inherent legacy guidance and to offer them an excellent teacher to start again from scratch and develop on what individuals did learn across the sense.
What do you dislike about the product?
Another of the biggest issues is a more complete Solidworks article the authors, with several key features losing, such as a welding/frame generator. At present any systemic or plumbing runs must be created or carried out manually with a personalized script.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
One of our main issues is that we use Google to withstand our layout files' sharing and storing. These have led to problems in which files can get corrupted or slow down until files are followed up and synchronized. It takes hours for files to be shared, and even certain users have to operate regionally as well as publish when necessary in order to back up problems of cooperation. Overnight this has changed how job can be did think about and managed, thanks to the co-operation functionalities and then a built-in ERP system.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Make sure the Onshape skills match what you are trying to create. Which is a very good design platform, some important features might be turnoffs and make things more difficult than positive effects obviously it depends on ones wants. In the way that improve folders and reinstalling really aren't necessary, the pace is impressive and barely noticeable, making the expansion of this channel enjoyable.
Great solution.for high school CAD classes and robotics teams!
What do you like best about the product?
Browser based, integrated App Store, integrated training, certifications
What do you dislike about the product?
Not sure how to use part studio the way it is intended yet
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?

Onshape - Future of CAD
What do you like best about the product?
No files, no updates/patches, no powerful desktop needed
What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing. This product is perfect and it's the future of engineering
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I'm a mechanical engineer with over 20 years of experience designing machines, robots, sensors, etc. I've used every CAD tool there is (starting with AutoCAD R14 in 1999). I convinced my first employer to switch from AutoCAD 2D drawings (full of errors) to 3D modeling using SolidWorks in the early 2000's - that switch saved a massive amount of time, cost, and risk for the company.
Switching from SolidWorks to Onshape is another step-change in CAD - all of the headaches with local on-premise software go away. No files, no version control issues, no updates/patches/installs, no heavy compute power needed!
Onshape enables a new paradigm in product development - one that is very exciting and will rely on distributed engineers working from anywhere (an office, at home, on the beach, etc.). It's a great day to be an engineer!

Recommendations to others considering the product:
Switch immediately to Onshape from any legacy desktop CAD tool you're using today. You won't regret it.
Perfect Startup system
What do you like best about the product?
Browser based and real time collaboration. Very helpful and rapid support. Very intuitive to use, especially with assembly of complex mechanisms.
What do you dislike about the product?
Still occasionally feels like a work in progress. No monthly billing option.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Transferring design work from consultant to internal engineering team. Great for working from home.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Definitely worth the investment. SaaS cloud model is the way of the future.
Industry Leading Collaboration tools with Consistent Improvements
What do you like best about the product?
Onshape has the best collaboration tools of any CAD system I've used. No need to check-out parts. Being able to work on the same parts, same assembly as other is great for the coaching mentality.
