Sharing and CAD on-the-go

  • February 18, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I love how powerful new features appear frequently without any effort on my part. I like how I can share my model with others and also use Onshape on my phone and tablet.
What do you dislike about the product?
Key partners are using SolidWorks, so they take a copy to work with and are not willing to make edits to the model.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
As the founder with limited resources, I can achieve the productivity of many people.

Nothing at the moment but have not used the full potential of ONSHAPE yet
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?

Recommendations to others considering the product:

No CAD files. No hassels. Just design!

  • February 14, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Making a good design means interating, iterating and iterating. With Onshape you can make changes to your design without being afraid of breaking the CAD model design intent. If an idea is not working just can go back in any point in time and continue from there.
What do you dislike about the product?
Can't think of anything to dislike. It is a fantastic platform!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Developing better products in a shorter amount of time in comparison with the 'classic' file-based CAD systems.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Just start a project as a trial. It is more then just a CAD system.

My go-to CAD program

  • February 14, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
-No PLM
-No VARS
-Work on any device, including a Chromebook
-Real time collaboration
-Can share files in real time with view only options
-Simultaneous flat pattern in sheet metal
-Quick and easy mate connectors
-Powerful part and assembly configuration tools
-Cheaper than other professional CAD programs

Additionally, the team is very responsive to support tickets and feedback. There are updates every 3 weeks or so that add features, stability, and improvements. They have been playing around with speed increases that are impossible on traditional CAD programs and can leverage the use of multiple servers operating in parallel.
What do you dislike about the product?
-can slow down on big assemblies or with less than stellar internet connections
-limited surfacing tools
-drawing tools are still behind Solidworks
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Allows me to immediately share live documents with my clients without requiring them to buy a license.
Lets me use a Chromebook when traveling.
Lets me work from anywhere with internet access and I know I have latest files.
I never need to meet with a VAR
Real time collaboration

Switched from SolidWorks after starting my own Design Consulting business

  • February 14, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I really appreciate how easy it is to share my work and current progress with other team members. Whether it’s with other engineer collaborators, clients, or manufacturing partners, it’s been very easy for these partners to view and use the shared files I have sent.
I like not having to worry about my powerful workstation if I need to work on the road. Having the freedom to work remotely from a fast internet connection is great.
What do you dislike about the product?
I did have some trouble with some of the advanced features such as certain surfacing tools that weren’t available at that time.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Lower investment and annual costs for traditional enterprise solid CAD, which equates to lower overall costs for my small business.
Flexibility to work remotely

My Experience with Onshape

  • February 03, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I love Onshape's intuitive and easy-to-use interface compared with other CAD tools I have used. It just works. Onshape allows me to do graphically intensive CAD work on a laptop with minimal specs. It also allows me to easily collaborate with remote clients who can watch in real-time while I update their models. I am very impressed with the new features added with each software update. It shows that Onshape genuinely cares about their customers which you don't see from some of the larger CAD companies out there. For the price, you can't beat Onshape as a fully-featured parametric CAD tool. It has been (and continues to be) a big reason for my success in my design business.
What do you dislike about the product?
I'm still waiting for the photorealistic rendering capability to be added to Onshape. I think rendering should be integrated into the software (instead of using a secondary app). Not much to complain about though, I love it!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Collaboration. I am able to collaborate with clients in ways that simply weren't possible with other CAD tools. I save time with Onshape knowing my files are backed up and well organized without using additional software to accomplish this.

A huge benefit to Onshape is the price. Yes, there are cheaper CAD tools available, but none of them are as intuitive to use as Onshape. For most 3D modeling work, Onshape is on par or better than other CAD tools costing thousands more.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Try it free first. You have nothing to lose. You may discover that will be a huge asset to your business!

Will not go back to traditional CAD

  • January 31, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Low hardware cost to run the software. Great collaboration tool. It features a good set of design tools. I am able to run Onshape from just about any device and from any location with an internet connection.
What do you dislike about the product?
Still lacks some features of old more established CAD tools. Revision management still needs to be fine tuned a little more.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The biggest problem we are solving is cost savings. Cheaper hardware cost to run Onshape, No server needed for storage or backups, Cheaper software cost versus previous CAD software.
Being a small company and needing other to collaborate occasionally is incredibly easy in this software. Finally, being able to sit down anyplace and work has been a great time saver. No lugging a workstation class laptop back and forth. Pull out a thin Chromebook or a phone and go to work.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Try it and be open minded about cloud storage.

Using Onshape has been a great experience.

  • January 21, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Coming from the world of Solidworks, my experience with Onshape has been great. Onshape is an intuitive, easy-to-use and worry-free CAD software. Don’t need to have a dedicated engineering computer, don’t have to worry about PDM or loosing your data. The software is always up-to-date and continually improved, and documents are always available in any device. With Onshape I can spend more time designing components versus maintaining the software and the computer.
What do you dislike about the product?
All considered, there isn't much to dislike about Onshape.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The major benefit of Onshape is that we don't have to worry about PDM, software and system updates and configuration changes. We just design.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Compare it head-to-head and you'll make the switch.
