CAD that enables me to go fast AND keep overview

  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The Git like structure. (Versions, branching, merging) and that it is in the cloud.
What do you dislike about the product?
You are forced to build up your designs in an efficient for Onshape to load fast. It's also a kind of a good thing, as it taught me a lot about how to properly structure and build up a complicated product when many parts
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It allows me to do rapid development and really efficiently work together with my team. Also the upcoming connection between and Onshape and Arena will save a lot of time!

Onshape is the perfect cloud based CAD solution at a great price

What do you like best about the product?
Cloud based, requires no special hardware, powerful and versatile.
What do you dislike about the product?
Naturally 100% dependent on the internet.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Small business, sole engineer. I needed a low cost, capable CAD requiring minimal hardware. Onshape has more than met this requirement, allowing me to create concepts, detailed 3D designs, construction drawings, 2D and 3D exports, and simulations. A big part of why I'm successful at work.

What do you like best about the product?
The ease of use and simplified operation. Customer support has been great with pretty quick turn around on questions/issues.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's a shade combersome when staring out and versions/release management are awkward until you get the hang of it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The company has had many different softwares over the years. The nice part about OnShape is that you don't have to have a full time IT person or expensive hardware to run it and it's accessible anywhere you have WiFi.

What do you like best about the product?
The 2 best features from Onshape would be for me the cloud base software and the Version/Revision and Branching flow.
What do you dislike about the product?
Knowing that it's allways upgrading it's hard to keep up. Also some basic feature from other cad system are missing.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The software does what other CAD software are capable but the cloud base make the accessibility super unique. I can access and CAD from many devices including tablets (even the app is lacking a little). Also the branching and version workflow is super flexible and helps in all differents phases of design.

CAD flexibility and functionality

What do you like best about the product?
The cloud platform. Takes our IT headaches away and allows us to work outside of our IT departments abilities to support us.
What do you dislike about the product?
Still missing a few features that would help us in drawings and parts but there are ways to get around them for us.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We had a hard time upgrading software every other year and didn't upgrade for 5 years even though we were on subscription. We had to rope our corporate IT in and our VAR and users everytime we wanted an upgrade to PDM and/or software. It took us a year of coordinating and planning to get it done. Also we have an office in China that couldn't access our PDM due to Chinese VPN blocking. Now they can use it normally and view our files simply. Also it's so much faster in the browser. I can pull a drawing or model open in seconds and not minutes.

What do you like best about the product?
That everything is online and gets updated IRL.
What do you dislike about the product?
The button interface. I guess I am used to the interface the most CAD programs offer.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Multy-platform connection between teams.

Onshape 3D CAD tool review

  • February 15, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Onshape CAD tool is web based tool, so it can be accessed from Mobile platform too. Onshape has good tutorials to help the new leaners. Customer support also very nice. DXF, STP, IGS etc as well as some well known 3D platform models also can be easily integrated. In assembly we can arrest a part with single fastened mate it is good implementation in CAD tool. "S" shortcut is good for frequent use of feature selection.
What do you dislike about the product?
Onshape assembly mates is similar to ANSYS 3D modeler. But missing of X Y Z arrow direction in mate options, is sometimes confusing.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Im a designer, so this tool helps in 3D cad modeling activites.

Seamless experience

What do you like best about the product?
Not having to worry about crashes and auto-saving/infinite undos are amazing. I would have a really hard time switching back to a standard CAD system. Customer support is quick and feedback usually takes no more than a day. Mating logic in assemblies makes sense after you go through adaptation phase.
What do you dislike about the product?
2D drawing implementation is still a little bit raw, and some bugs may occur, along with the lack of some tools that you would expect (e.g revision clouds). Integration with 3DConnexion tools (space mouse) sometimes is a little bit bugged as well, requiring a restart, as these sometimes don't identify Onshape being run in a tab and just show Chrome instead.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We used to lose a lot of time due to software bug and troubleshooting, which in turn is gone ever since we adopted Onshape.

What do you like best about the product?
Pros:

I like the Sketcher tools, part design mode very much user friendly.
And importing and editing features are nice.

In Context mode is very useful.

Seemless operation because of cloud platform.

customer support is good.

Regularly using for our product design activities.

Exporting option is very nice, since it is having able to export to all differnt formats to integrate with other softwares.

Very easy to adapt and implement and use in any organisation which is having very limited and not sophisticated Modelling and R&D Activities.
What do you dislike about the product?
Cons:

Assembly features need to be improved. Cannot rely on Mate connector for all operations.
Derived feature operation is not comfortable as in Creo's Inheritance and Merge.
Assembly mirror feature need to be added, instead of strugling with mate connetor mirroring.

Not very much confident to use for large assembly.

Error list and resolving tips are not there. Only showing failed features is not useful.

Cabling and wire harnessing is very difficult to use and not user friendly.Need clear menus, and specifications build into use.Does not seems to proficeint with Feature script.

Piping tools are there or not?

Drawing: Need auto dimensioning like creo.BOM Ballon creation needs to be user frienly
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Ease of use and quicly finish my 3D activities.
