What do you dislike about the product?
- The system marks segments as 100% matches, but these matches are not always automatically entered, so you have to check and add them manually, which is time-consuming.
- The cursor does not jump to where you place it, but always to the beginning of the segment, often despite multiple clicks. This costs time.
- The glossary entries almost always need to be edited in my language and generate incorrect QA messages upon segment confirmation due to the necessary deviation, which takes a lot of time to process. Since the glossary is automatically entered, the title line of an entry should contain only one possible translation. Not multiple.
- I find the so-called validation unjustified, as these segments often still need significant editing and do not justify the reduction in earnings. In general, the assignment of validations in my language often seems quite arbitrary.
- During post-editing in the context of questions, the screen is sometimes extremely confusing.
- Unfortunately, context is often missing, which is very important for a good translation. As a translator, I need to know where on the page a sequence of words is located in order to translate it correctly in context. This is also a problem with TM entries that are not suitable in every situation. Sometimes more than one TM entry is needed for a word or a part of a sentence.
- There should be a way to download invoices sorted by project in a file. I cannot use the CSV function.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am not a customer of Smartling, so this question is probably irrelevant.
It's like working with a lifetime buddy
What do you like best about the product?
It's quite easy to work with Smartling. I receive new job notifications every day, and I'm often contacted by project managers regarding new projects or accounts. It's been four years since I received my first job from Smartling, and I still enjoy working with them.
What do you dislike about the product?
If I have to be picky - there's an around 30-minute time gap between when new jobs are posted and when I received the email notifications. I've missed out on a lot of projects due to this issue.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I'm using Smartling as one of my main CATs and it is easily accessible - I can work from anywhere.
My everyday tool for completing localisation projects
What do you like best about the product?
Intuitive access to and leverage of the translation memories and glossaries of multiple clients; the ability to ensure consistency with ease; the ability to flag issues, ask questions and see what fellow linguists have queries about.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's only a minor issue, but the translator invoicing page very occasionally doesn't work and has to be reset by Smartling staff, but they do this quickly and efficiently.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I work on localisation and translation projects within Smartling, so this question isn't really relevant to me.
My main translation platform
What do you like best about the product?
User-friendly interface, responsive and dedicated team, straightforward invoicing.
What do you dislike about the product?
Most of the work is distributed on a first come-first served basis. There is a lag between the posting of jobs and the e-mail notifications.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Everything is integrated on the same platform/browser page: intuitive CAT tool and automatic invoicing. Great visibility of jobs available/assigned and their deadlines.
Efficiency and flexibility for a long-term collaboration
What do you like best about the product?
The platform's ease of use, the ability to choose projects based on deadline and subject matter, and the extensive client portfolio that allows for variety in fields. I also appreciate the smooth communication with project managers and their quick response times.
What do you dislike about the product?
The notifications received do not always allow you to accept the project for which you received the email beforehand. The project does not always appear in ‘Current Works’ even if you receive a notification indicating that a project is available.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Smartling enables the centralisation of multiple client portfolios, providing high visibility into incoming projects.
One of the most streamlined translation service provider
What do you like best about the product?
I love every aspect of the cooperation, from starting the translation projects to the support the company provides and to the very end of a project.
What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing in particular to list in this field.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The platform enables translators to translate in an easy way.
Great client to work for
What do you like best about the product?
I like the variety of end clients, the variety of jobs I get. It's a mix of small jobs and bigger jobs, which is nice. Small jobs don't take up more time than they should, as they're just a click away in the dashboard, with no extra steps required. Jobs are assigned automatically, no emailing back and forth needed, and you don't miss work because you're not always monitoring your email. Declining jobs you can't handle is easy and nobody faults you, and you can mark yourself unavailable whenever you need a break or can't handle any more work.
The platform is easy to use, the translation process is straightforward in a decent online CAT tool, which TM, MT, AI and a glossary being available. Instructions and style guides are usually available with every task, just a button click away. A preview is often available, giving you the right context for each string. And if that's not enough, context/instructions per string are often also available.
The CAT tool is fast enough, faster than any other CAT tool I've used (which all sometimes have trouble keeping up with my pace).
Invoicing and payment is automatic, all you have to do is download your monthly invoice for your own administration.

What do you dislike about the product?
I don't always like the direct assignment of jobs, without checking my availability first. It can become too much, because you also have work from other clients, or because Smartling is just assigning too much too fast. Whatever you can't handle, can be declined though, and you can pause assignment altogether.
The only payment option available is Veem, from which you have to forward your money to your own bank account. Really wish they'd provide more options, at least bank transfer (a local bank transfer to a Wise account is free!)

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I'm a translator, I just get work from Smartling and do it in their tool. Smartling doesn't solve any problems for me that I didn't already have solutions for.
The interface is simple, making it user-friendly.
What do you like best about the product?
The interface is straightforward and user-friendly.
What do you dislike about the product?
On the right side of the screen, where the translation memory options appear, it takes up too much screen space.
When viewing the context tab, the highlight used to be yellow, but now it’s blue, which makes checking the context uncomfortable for the eyes.
The lack of an option to create a personal translation memory.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It helps maintain translation consistency when more than one translator is working on the same project.
I think Smartling is generally very useful for managing translations.
What do you like best about the product?
You can see the list of jobs at a glance, and searching makes management convenient.
What do you dislike about the product?
The admin interface is difficult to use. Previously, clicking on a job would display a job tile, allowing you to go directly to the screen where you could view the strings. Now, that’s no longer possible, which is inconvenient.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are able to centrally oversee multiple translation projects that are running concurrently.
Easy to use
What do you like best about the product?
I've been using the software for a long time, so I'm used to it. It's pretty easy to use it.
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish there is a Japanese spelling check feature.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am not sure if it's benefiting me.
