Excellent platform and company
What do you like best about the product?
I've been working with Smartling as a linguist for almost two years and I'm extremely satisfied with the collaboration. The platform works great and they pay in a timely manner. I would definitely recommend working with them to other colleagues.
What do you dislike about the product?
So far I don't have anything negative to say about Smartling.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I work on several accounts on Smartling, and the work is very well organized thanks to TMs, glossaries and style guided available directly in-platform.

The Smartling platform streamlines the localization processes and utilizes features of CAT-tools, translation memories, term bases, machine translation, etc. to ensure the predictably-high level of localization of every project.
The system is extremely easy-to-use and requires no significant learning process.
A good built-in quality assessment system ensures fewer false positives and more actual issues that require correction and improvement, thus improving the translation quality.
The support team is always ready to help when needed and provides assistance with various issues and queries, as well as coordination between various parties.
Also, the Smartling platform takes security matters seriously and has been implementing various solutions to ensure protection of information for years.

An excellent client with excellent software
What do you like best about the product?
I have been using Smartling for over 10 years and have been a vendor for over 5 years. I have used countless CAT tools throughout my career, and I have to say that Smartling has always been one of the best, if not the absolute best, and I am not at all surprised that it is so widely used. As a supplier, I appreciate the excellent support and thoughtful project management, which makes our collaboration a breeze. And their machine-translation engine is one of the very best, too.
What do you dislike about the product?
Occasional authentication issues when opening multiple tasks simultaneously, but these are very rare (and I am being a stickler here).
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It provides all the tools and procedures needed to support the translation process, so I can focus on the content without distractions.
A Reliable and User-Friendly Translation Platform
What do you like best about the product?
I have been using Smartling for the past three years, and it has consistently proven to be a reliable and user-friendly platform. Everything is easy to access, and the interface makes navigation smooth and intuitive. One of the features I appreciate the most is the seamless integration of machine translation, which saves a lot of time while still allowing for high-quality output. The platform also provides a very clear overview of completed work and invoices, which makes project tracking and reporting straightforward. Overall, Smartling has made my daily work much more efficient, and I truly value how well it balances simplicity with powerful functionality.

There’s nothing I particularly dislike about Smartling at the moment.

Smartling makes my translation process faster and more efficient, while still helping me ensure the highest quality. It also allows me to easily check and maintain the quality of translations across the whole team, which improves consistency and overall results.
One of the most innovative CAT Tools out there
What do you like best about the product?
As a translator, I find Smartling quite intuitive! The ease of navigating TMs as well as seeing the attached context for most of the strings makes my job easier.
What do you dislike about the product?
I just wish it was a lot easier to access the submitted work in case I need to modify the translations, because there are times when I start working on a new job to only realize that there are something related in the past jobs that would need to be changed. Clients often demand consistency, but it's hard if the translations that should be updated were done years ago, because languages evolve over time.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Honestly, as a translator, the only noticeable upgrade within the past couple years was the context tab inside the CAT Tool.

Working with jobs made easy
What do you like best about the product?
Jobs are sent directly to your account and you can start working on them whenever they become available without any complicated process of approving jobs. The use of platform is easy and straightforward.
What do you dislike about the product?
It is not guaranteed that you have jobs available. Sometimes you may get "too" much work with a very short deadline, but often it happens that you don't have any jobs.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Sometimes a lack of work. Solution: Send more clients/jobs those who have worked a long time so that there was more regular work.
Intuitive and user-friendly
What do you like best about the product?
The tool is very simple and straightforward, hence, user-friendly. It contains all the features that are needed in localization, so the dashboard is not confusing or visually contaminated as in other CAT tools.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes the TM panel at the right does not show the latest entries stored in the TM and you need to go to the TM section and perform the search there to get the most up-to-date strings.

What do you like best about the product?
Using the platform for many years, Smartling has made the usefulness and necessity of AI-powered translation apparent through intuitive systems and advanced support for almost any file type. I'd certainly recommend it to any potential client that wants to leverage powerful support for their localization needs.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some file types are not often parsed comprehensibly and awkward line breaks can lead to truncated strings that are very hard to parse, especially when dealing with APAC languages etc. Investing time in cleaning up source files and making sure all context is communicated beforehand goes a long way in ensuring a quality final output. Glossaries and other linguistic assets are also a must in this regard.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
As a localization manager Smartling is an amazing tool for managing localization across many countries and locales, and as a Japanese to English translator, the opportunity to engage with the product directly on JP-EN jobs has shown the high-quality final output it creates on many occasions – certainly look forward to more!

What do you like best about the product?
Having their own development team means that they are always there to help if some feature is not working as expected and they are open to suggestions to make the translation workflow smoother.
I've been translating with them for 8 years now and I use the platform on daily basis. It's pretty straightforward and, since it's web-based, no instalation is necessary.
Even though you cannot translate from a smartphone, I'm still able to do the rest of the actios, such as check the list of current jobs, accept the jobs available, see an estimate of the words to translate... Basically, everything except translating or reviewing per se. This means, for example, that I can receive a request email and check all the details to see if I can accept it knowing that I will be able to deliver it on time, all on the go.

Being web-based, sometimes the segments in progress don't get saved properly if I change from one computer to another. I get a warning message, but I'm not sure what are the actual consequences to the translation still in progress.
Also, really big jobs (over 2000 segments) are still problematic. It gets slow, the filter of the translation pannel doesn't work and the QA check gets glitchy, too.

It helps me get a steady stream of work on monthly basis in one single platform. PMs reach out from time to time with new accounts that meet my expertise and the content is right down my alley, so I can translate with even more confidence.
