Pros and cons of working with Smartling
What do you like best about the product?
User-friendly platform, always available.
What do you dislike about the product?
Large projects can make it run a bit slow.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Professional translation as a freelance translator. Smartling is one of my main sources of income nowadays.
Effective and reliable Translation Management Platform
What do you like best about the product?
Smartling is one of my favorite Translation Management Platforms. I use it on a daily basis and, overall, I am very satisfied with it. Translation and proofreading projects are easy to manage, and project managers are always prompt in answering my questions, no matter the topic (project-specific, billing, or other). The machine translations provided in the Editor are above average in quality. Additionally, the Concordance Search function is user-friendly and effective.
What do you dislike about the product?
If I have specific questions regarding a translation, it sometimes takes several days to receive a response from clients. Additionally, there is a significant number of projects consisting of only a few words. In such cases, logging in and opening the Editor often takes more time than completing the actual translation.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I can manage translations, ask clients questions that arise during the process, and handle billing all on a centralized platform. The machine translations available in the Editor significantly speed up my workflow.
Working for Smartling has been a great experience — professional, reliable, and always supportive.
What do you like best about the product?
What I appreciate most about Smartling is their intuitive platform and smooth workflow, which makes managing projects easy and efficient.
What do you dislike about the product?
There’s really very little to dislike, but if I had to mention something, I would say longer deadlines are always a good thing.

Smartling streamlines translation and editing processes, making it easier to manage projects and communicate effectively, which helps me work more efficiently.
Constant and plenty of work opportunities
What do you like best about the product?
I can get plenty of good opportunities at Smartling. PMs are efficient and professional. The translation dashboard is also efficient and ready to start your tasks on your browser immediately. It's quite stable. I've never seen issues/errors.
What do you dislike about the product?
I want to fix the view of job list (I prefer Task Due Date Ascending), but I have to sort it every time I use the dashboard. A few times, but it took time to get support by PM (mostly PMs are very ready to support).
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
A continuance of job opportunity is essential for translators. Smartling offers it to me. Even if you see any issues to proceed your jobs, an escalation route is ready. You can get answers usually within 24-hour.

very efficient, they provide two AI translation options and one machine translation, means that we have more options to choose
What do you dislike about the product?
we are not translators anymore. we are just picking the most suitable version and provide minor edits.

I don't need to worry about formatting, translation memories and glossaries.

What do you dislike about the product?
1. QA check is not enough for checking numbers, links, inconsistencies, tags, punctuations, etc.
2.No export/import function in order to be able to do some external QA checks using Xbench, QA Distiller, Verifica, etc.
3.No spelling check within the tool.
4. Sometimes machine translation results are not displayed, and I can't make use of them.
5. Sometimes I can see the task in Upcoming pane, and it is not shown in the Available To Accept pane, so I can't claim it.

It enhances my productivity and helps me track my monthly revenue and production.
Smooth work experience
What do you like best about the product?
It is easy to use and quite intuitive. I like the option of downloading the file for external QA review.
What do you dislike about the product?
The machine translation autopopulated not aways takes into consideration the tone (formal/informal) indicated on the Style Guide. That results in unnecessary extra work in languages where the tone of voice needs different approaches depending on that.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It is for sure better than using a word document.
Very easy to use and quick
What do you like best about the product?
Very user-friendly functionality, no odd things. Easy to concentrate on tasks. Vocabulary, style guide, etc. are all at hand also.
What do you dislike about the product?
I've pretty used to it, don't want to change anything. Except for there is sometimes a bug when reloading the dashboard, you cannot see some tasks. However, one more reloading always help.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It integrates AI tools , which makes translation much quicker. Very often, you need just to edit the target text a little to make it sound natural.
Great CAT tool to use!
What do you like best about the product?
It is easy to use wherever you are as long as you have Internet connection. It has all that a translator needs for their work (context, glossaries, TMs, AI/MT suggestions, TM/term search, query management. I particularly like their auto invoicing feature which saves a translator effort to cross check things.
What do you dislike about the product?
I do not like the tool's limitation to sort by string numbers, which makes a translator's work hard as they have to translate out of context. And the way jobs are assigned has made it worse as a job/file might be assigned to different translators. This results in a translator being unable to work on the first or latter half of a sentence as those might have been assigned to another translator and are in locked status.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It helps me a lot as it allows me to be able to work anywhere anytime, on a PC, iPad or even smart phones, though you cannot really translate on phones - you can accept jobs from there.
