Don't be lost in translation!

What do you like best about the product?
The content on our corporate website is updated very regularly and caters to an audience of English, French and Spanish speakers. Our team uses Smartling on a weekly basis. We have to remain swift annd accurate with our translations. Smarlting integrates easily with our website and makes the management of this process very seamless.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is a learning curve before feeling comfortable on the platform and leveraging all its features. Luckily, the team is readily available to direct users to insightful articles, videos or schedule a training call.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Gone are the days when we had to manually input our content while trying to match each string to its translation!

Could be more user-friendly, but a powerful all-around tool for Localization

  • March 14, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Smartling has an excellent CAT tool that really speeds up the translation and review process. The tool's connectors are also pretty powerful, allowing for translators to see the page ready while they're translating, which is great to ensure consitency, contextualized translations and recognize UI limitations before the translation is actually submitted.
What do you dislike about the product?
Finding certain features and settings isn't always easy, and sometimes a change that should be made with one or two clicks takes several. Sometimes, it feels like you have to investigate to actually get where you need to be, when things could be easier to find. The way tools are linked together and categorized could improve, and certain necessary bulk actions are missing.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Smartling is putting us together with translators, estimating budgets and providing an excellent CAT tool to conduct translation work with. There's Translation Memory maintenance, Glossary maintenance, workflow setups and basically everything you'd expect from a complete Localization product. The connectors and APIs really help in automating our workload and getting things delivered quickly and with the expected quality.

Good translation/Good people

What do you like best about the product?
I think what I like most is the support I get from people like Adam or Ke. I often need someone to hold my hand and walk me through each steps, sometimes several times before I can do it alone.
What do you dislike about the product?
I do have to do a lot of preliminary setups before translating (setting up workflows, preparing the documents, excluding strings, answering translator questions) and I wish there was a simpler way of managing the Glossary (which I'd love to do but don't have time).
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We wish to stop doing internal review with Laerdal people (it's a bottle neck and take too much time) and have Smartling people do it instead. We're hoping to gain time and money with that. Also, having 1 single place where all our translations are hosted is a plus.

Excellent customer service and communication

  • February 23, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It was relatively easy for someone like me (a complete novice to a TMS) to find my way around and use it. This has been bolstered by our very helpful Smartling liaison, Emily, and the rest of the team assigned to our account (shoutout to Jose). They are prompt in responding to our questions and helping us translate our needs into actionable items. They are willing to listen and get creative with us. Most of our integrations have been pretty straightforward to set up. If there are integrations we'd like to see added, they hear us out (and have added a few of our requests since we've been working together). Our linguists seem satisfied with the tooling as well.
What do you dislike about the product?
There are a few small navigational irks, things aren't always in the place I think they're going to be. I also wish I could see the translator's view more easily to help my linguists troubleshoot, and I would love to be able to add multiple roles to users. The only other item on my wish list for now is breaking up long-form text, or having the option to do so. We will be translating more HTML pages with long paragraph blocks of text, and without the ability to break up those big blocks of text more easily, we won't be able to get much use out of the translation memory created from this particular project. It is rare we will see this long-form blocks of text repeat themselves exactly, but we could see phrases and sentences repeating themselves.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use it to translate our app, web-based assets, and occasional marketing materials for our international markets -- keeps our international products on pare with the main EN prroduct.
