Smartling has helped us better optimize cost savings
What do you like best about the product?
Smartling has given our business the ability to analyse key metrics which we had no access to before. This platform has made it possible to understand how to better optimize cost savings from our Translation Memory, saving our business both time and money.
What do you dislike about the product?
Whilst the system is extremely effective for the business, it would be good if it could ingest a variety of different formats to trigger translation.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are better optimizing cost savings from our Translation Memory
It has its good, it has its bad
What do you like best about the product?
Cannot answers this question because it always say it's wrong
What do you dislike about the product?
integration with automated translation can be improved. Glossaries are useless, in that way
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
workflow is faster
Recommendations to others considering the product:
try it
Top notch customer service
What do you like best about the product?
I’ve been with Smartling for 3 years now and overall I am happy with the platform. Their customer service managers are amazing and I have always received prompt and accurate responses to all my requests. The interface is easy to navigate, and the tool is flexible in terms of setting up different workflows for each type of project & type of content and also user profiles.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some existing integrations could be improved
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The range of integrations they offer is impressive and their engineering teams are working constantly to make them even better. I think this flexibility in terms of building new integrations for internal tools, and also their existing integrations have helped us develop much smoother processes and workflows.
Great service any global business could use
What do you like best about the product?
The online portal is great when you're working with coworkers around the world. Being able to set deadlines and see the history of a project are important features. Plus, it's great that it integrates with our website so it's multilingual.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some languages can take longer than others. I wish searching for a specific string was easier, especially those that aren't assigned to a job yet (I have to bookmark a URL because I can never remember how to get there from the menus).
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Communicating our product's value and functionality to customers and leads around the world.
Very useful tool
What do you like best about the product?
The product has been very useful for us, making our translation process much more efficient, for example the API integration has made translation work seamless meaning that we can send and receive translated content with very little manual input.
Being able to view individual strings, seeing their history, issues and comments, is really useful when trying to diagnose issues with our CMS.
When we are implementing new features, the Smartling team have always been very responsive and helpful, meaning that we are able to translate new file types with little delay.

What do you dislike about the product?
When new features are developed and released, such as the new layout, certain older tools like the translation view and context reset are hidden away making it difficult to access them.
It would be good if there was version function. Several times I've accidentally uploaded a file, overwriting the original, causing extra translation cost. It would be great if previous versions could be restored if needed.
When emailing Smartling support, if you don't chase up on the issue then you won't get a reply.
Some of the UI can be a bit confusing, for example I would think that the workflow setting would come under 'workflow summary' as opposed to 'project settings'

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The biggest issue Smartling solved was the inefficiency of our previous translation process. The files would have to be downloaded, and then sent off for translation manually, with these changes then having to be manually uploaded to the website. Now what would have taken hours takes minutes.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Having not had any other experience with cloud based translation software providers I can't really compare, but based on my own experience with Smartling I think that it is a good product that meets our business needs and is sufficiently flexible to keep up with our ever-changing products.
Good product easy to use!
What do you like best about the product?
I like that the help center provides detailed instructions on how to use the platform. Also its leading technology and features in the industry are also a huge plus. The SA and CSM teams are also very helpful and eager to help whenever there's a need. I also like that the team continually pushes out new features to make sure their platform and technology meet customers' needs.
What do you dislike about the product?
Would be great to have a more advanced/holistic integration with Google and AWS MT that's easy to use. Also, may not be the most linguists-friendly TMS. I've got some feedback from linguists and people who don't work in the localization industry mentioning that it's not the most user-friendly translation platform, but to me, the UI is actually pretty clean and straightforward, so I guess that could also be people have different preferences. String segmentation (ingested from web pages) is based on blocks, and this has increased work from linguists' sides since identical strings could appear twice and when there are millions of words to be translated, it could cause lots of extra efforts.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Proxy solution for website translation and could TMS platform. The in-editor context feature is really helpful for our linguists to translate with reference and to make sure that their translations reflect the source. The QA checking feature against the source and glossary also help our linguists to deliver consistent translation. Another benefit is that we've saved a lot of time and budget by leveraging its Proxy solution and TM. We were able to minimize our manual efforts and have instant string ingestion and updates on the localized site.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
The product is pretty good with good support
Easy to use interface. Flexible systems. Responsive team.
What do you like best about the product?
Flexible solutions for our business needs.
What do you dislike about the product?
More transparency re: quality and processes/scheduling with linguists. Chasing after deliverables when past due.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Scalability
Smartling has helped so much in centralizing and streamlining our localization process
What do you like best about the product?
Smartling is easy to use and we have a lot of stakeholders and workflows so simplicity is a must. The ease of use is not to say that Smartling isn't detailed and customizable. We have lots of complex needs and for the most part we are able to customize our use of the system to our specific needs.
What do you dislike about the product?
Smartling doesn't currently integrate with all of the internal systems we use so some processes are more manual than they should be. Also there is no in-app notification system or chat/communication feature outside of raising an issue that must be linked to a specific string. The reporting function could be better out of the box but we are mostly able to work with our Smartling CSM to customize reports on our specific needs.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Since implementing Smartling, we now have all of our assets in one place and have streamlined our localization process that used to be siloed among multiple systems and platforms. Our translation and localization turnaround time has improved exponentially since we started using Smartling.

After approximately 1 year of working with Smartling for enterprise-level localization
What do you like best about the product?
Over the last year we have been able to unify all of our localization efforts (across our enterprise) on the Smartling platform. What drew us to Smartling initially (in comparison to other TMS options) was its ease of use, extensibility, as well as the options of engaging them for translation services and the potential of harnessing their Global Delivery Network solution. Thus far, from a functional perspective, the platform has delivered and we have successfully positioned ourselves to scale as we grow and enter new markets. Additionally, their customer service is tremendous. Our assigned team is responsive, thoughtful and has consistently demonstrate a vested interest in our success.
What do you dislike about the product?
No real complaints. Would I have liked to have more out-of-the-box connectors from day 1 ?- sure. But the reality is no TMS out there is perfect and each has its own strong points. What's been reassuring is that they are willing to work with us on custom solutions, which I appreciate and look forward to seeing come to fruition in the coming year.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
By consolidating previously disparate functions spread across the company, we are now leveraging assets in one place, standardizing workflows based on content type, and in some cases empowering stakeholders to make their own requests directly in the system. This has had the net effect of putting us in the driver's seat when it comes to monitoring & controlling costs, ensuring terminological consistency, and maximizing the efficiency with which work is completed. We have also engaged Smartling in some heavy lifting that involved retroactively building large TMs and in programmatically tackling thousands of pages of help content for our English variants.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Think about what it is you are trying to achieve and what's important to your organization when investing in a TMS. Is it ease of use? Custom Integration capabilities? Out of the box connectors? Reporting? Value added services? For us, Smartling ticked all of the boxes.
A powerful and great translation service
What do you like best about the product?
Everything is so configurable and has all the bells and whistles you would ever want with translation services. Super configurable to your use case as well as flexible on the translation service. The company also is great and wants you to succeed, their customer support is amazing. This is definitely a best in class product service!
What do you dislike about the product?
Generally nothing, though it can have a bit of a learning curve to learning terminology and all capabilities.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We needed a translation service for our website and products this includes customers who want to see it in their language. We realized a benefit of reaching more customers internationally who can use the product.
