    Construction

After approximately 1 year of working with Smartling for enterprise-level localization

What do you like best about the product?
Over the last year we have been able to unify all of our localization efforts (across our enterprise) on the Smartling platform. What drew us to Smartling initially (in comparison to other TMS options) was its ease of use, extensibility, as well as the options of engaging them for translation services and the potential of harnessing their Global Delivery Network solution. Thus far, from a functional perspective, the platform has delivered and we have successfully positioned ourselves to scale as we grow and enter new markets. Additionally, their customer service is tremendous. Our assigned team is responsive, thoughtful and has consistently demonstrate a vested interest in our success.
What do you dislike about the product?
No real complaints. Would I have liked to have more out-of-the-box connectors from day 1 ?- sure. But the reality is no TMS out there is perfect and each has its own strong points. What's been reassuring is that they are willing to work with us on custom solutions, which I appreciate and look forward to seeing come to fruition in the coming year.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
By consolidating previously disparate functions spread across the company, we are now leveraging assets in one place, standardizing workflows based on content type, and in some cases empowering stakeholders to make their own requests directly in the system. This has had the net effect of putting us in the driver's seat when it comes to monitoring & controlling costs, ensuring terminological consistency, and maximizing the efficiency with which work is completed. We have also engaged Smartling in some heavy lifting that involved retroactively building large TMs and in programmatically tackling thousands of pages of help content for our English variants.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Think about what it is you are trying to achieve and what's important to your organization when investing in a TMS. Is it ease of use? Custom Integration capabilities? Out of the box connectors? Reporting? Value added services? For us, Smartling ticked all of the boxes.

A powerful and great translation service

What do you like best about the product?
Everything is so configurable and has all the bells and whistles you would ever want with translation services. Super configurable to your use case as well as flexible on the translation service. The company also is great and wants you to succeed, their customer support is amazing. This is definitely a best in class product service!
What do you dislike about the product?
Generally nothing, though it can have a bit of a learning curve to learning terminology and all capabilities.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We needed a translation service for our website and products this includes customers who want to see it in their language. We realized a benefit of reaching more customers internationally who can use the product.

Smartling has solved our multiple-language site translation issues

What do you like best about the product?
The people at Smartling are great! We always receive swift, professional, and concise information whenever we have questions or run into issues. Smartling also stays at the forefront of machine translation, and offers several ways to incorporate it into your translation workflow. I'm continually amazed at how fast the translated pages load, especially considering the myriad of tasks that take place before the page is even sent to the browser.
What do you dislike about the product?
The admin side of things can seem a bit clunky at times, and it's not always intuitive. There was also a pretty steep learning curve getting started, at least for me. =)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are using Smartling to translate our main English site into four additional languages. Before implementing Smartling, content and messaging was never in sync across all sites, including collateral items like the latest datasheets and whitepapers. It was nearly impossible to keep up with what content was on which site, how much of it was out of date, and what needed priority translating. Smartling has solved all of these problems and more with their workflow settings, content swap capabilities, rules, glossaries, cache settings, search features, and customization options.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Be sure to learn everything you can, ask questions, and take whatever time is necessary before you deploy to fully ensure everything is set up exactly how you want Smartling to work for you. It can be a bit overwhelming at first, because there are so many options and new things to learn, but you will certainly be thanking yourself later. While it is always possible to go back and retrofit Smartling after you go live, starting with a clear, clean vision and set of requirements up front will help ensure your best success for years to come.

What do you like best about the product?
Multiple Mars team onboarding with their own project settings and the capability to find synergies between teams and content scope to leverage the best TM.
What do you dislike about the product?
User roles and permissions some time have limits when we don’t have the right resources for the right purpose (but one person playing multiple roles) but the Smartling Team is considering any feedback we provide and make adjustment if needed.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Centralized, Mars secured and compliant translation platform for all Mars teams (sites and/or files translations), easy for team members onboarding for quick response to business needs.

Super useful tool with great support

What do you like best about the product?
It is easy to use and fast. The best thing though is that it connects with multiple tools and is able to provide live context to the translators so the quality of the outcome is better. We can translate different websites, using different technologies and make them share translation memory and glossaries and use different CMSes and PIMs at the same time. It's extremely useful for leveraging merges and acquisitions when new brands come on board but they need to be adapted to the group standards.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's sometimes tricky to personalize what exactly needs to be sent to translation, so the flexibility suffers. Sometimes we need to change the configuration depending on the needs so there is a room for improvement.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It helps scale up the business fast and reuse the content across different platforms, without the need to share databases.

What do you like best about the product?
I love the integration with WordPress and basic features just like character limit, string exclusion...
What do you dislike about the product?
I would like the TM to be more sofisticated: make comments on strings, being able to add penalties or mention when a string was not reviewed even though was saved.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I had to make too much manual integration. With the WordPress integration my translated content is built in my CMS. I don't need to spend hours copy/pasting content.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
The tool is complete and pretty easy to use. I LOVE the support, always ready to help.

What do you like best about the product?
I like that Smartling will always be available to work through any situation at any moment to support the success of out team.

The ability not to be able to get a count on pages submitted as opposed to just strings.

Very Handy Tool

What do you like best about the product?
The easy of use and the automatic translation feature. Support is always there to help and make quick time of getting back on any issues.

It is really useful to have the file upload job type - this allows us to upload files of copy to get translated.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes we have strings ingested that do not need to be and I have to manually exclude from being translated.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are trying to continuously have our site translated into local language for our website and marketing. Smartling allows us to either have this set up to happen automatically or one off jobs which we can complete with a file upload.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you want the full package then this is the translation tool for you. Complete website integration to allow automatic updates to strings being add across you site.

What do you like best about the product?
They offer a strong and competitive offering of services and plans accompanied by excellent customer service. Their account management team and customer success managers are top notch. Always willing to jump on a call and troubleshoot an issue or answer any question you may have. Their service is quick, high quality, and also offers nice integrations with other services like Slack.
What do you dislike about the product?
While there have been some improvements, I think the dashboard could continue to evolve to be more user friendly.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Automated and continuous translations of our product using their API. We've found increased efficiencies with their MT options and repo connectors.
