Responsive, Reliable, and Respected
What do you like best about the product?
Smartling's team and their proactiveness in making sure their customers are happy. Continuous improvements to the service based on customer feedback.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes the tool itself can feel a bit unaesthetiically pleasing and there are too many different ways to address one need. Wishing there was a way to add images to Issues and access issues' source diirectly from the Issues' dashboard. Some advancements of this feature is needed.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Overall consistent tone across products and major cost-savings due to the Translation Memory. Additionally, there is more engagement amongst our teams now that we use this service and cross-collaboration for our departments ensuring all are speaking the same language, so to speak. ;)
After many years working with the product, seems to be making some more marked strides

It connects with a lot of CMSs and has more advanced ways of capturing visual context than many other CAT tools on the market.
What do you dislike about the product?
- very sales-y vibe and not able to account for product shortcomings
- FAQ/documentation not robust or up-to-date
- don't collaborate with LSPs as much as needed
- lacking features that are considered industry standard for all other CAT tools (this seems to be slowly changing)

- a more automated way to capture context for mobile apps
- how to make the experience seamless for LSPs and internal reviewers to use

Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you are looking for a great connector to your content for seamless translation of your technology products, I recommend it. I do not recommend it for companies with a very mature localization model or who want to partner with more than 1 LSP. I do not recommend Smartling for those looking for an LSP, as quality has not been high with their freelance translators and partner LSPs, in my experience.
Good for translators, good for end clients!
What do you like best about the product?
The projects are interesting, the translation tool is great, payments are timely and rates are fair.
What do you dislike about the product?
Maybe a little more contact between the Project Managers and the translators would be nice.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am able to have a more constant revenue while still managing my time at my own convenience.
Best and Worst of Smartling
What do you like best about the product?
Smartling is web based utility, which does not have a physical installed software in your machine.
So you can access it from anywhere. Just login from Home to the online Smartling portal and start working on it. Save it and logout. And in office just login from another machine and continue working on that.
So, it provides the ease of work.
It provides Chrome Based plugin which is really helpful.
It provides AI Machine Learning or glossary making capabilities for the words/sentence/paragraph which are already translated, so next time the customer doesn't have to pay for such translations.
It provides APIs to upload or download translations to the server. So, one can just sue these APIs in python, perl, etc and can work directly.
It has quite visible review process for the translations done and for the approval mechanism.

As it is not an offline software, so somehow If you don't have network connection, you can work with it.
Sometimes Smartling server are kept for maintenance , In that case also we can't access or work with Smartling.
They just have Chrome Plugin for accessing Smartling APIs. They don't support/have other browser based plugin.
For uploading and downloading files, they do have file restrictions. They do support very limited file formats.

Translation of En_US to multiple languages (around 27 languages)
Access to software fro m different locations, just have to login the system and start working.
Transparent view for the translations done and to check the state of translations.
Machine learning and Glossary making capabilities of the tool to capture already done translations to leverage directly from that.
The Chrome Plugin and APIs to support the upload and download of translations.

Recommendations to others considering the product:
Its a great tool to work with if you have GUI application which has global appeal and needs to be interacted with users in various geographical locations. In such case accuracy in translation is must.
So, Smartling provides the robust online interface which can be used for such work.

Great tool
What do you like best about the product?
I like Smartling almost for eveyrhing. Even when I opened it first time, I could understend how it works easily. I cen say this is definetely my favorite translation work platform!
What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing, its ideal. Everyone should try! )

Everything is quick and easy. I do not need to thing about where this button or that function, how to save and how to fix. I just open it an thing about my translation text. Thats it. and thats how transhation tool shoud be!

I liked the interface. The bar on the right helps a lot during the translation by providing translation memory and quality assurance.

During my recent work Smartling crashed several times.

Tags are easy to place to the soruce tag and context view window situated above the source and target text section.

A smart interface with high functionalty. It is one of the most fastest web-based translation management system. Sometimes the pace is really important.
Can't imagine any better way to localize large sites into multiple languages
What do you like best about the product?
The content delivery network allows you to maintain a single source site and deliver translated pages to visitors from other languages. This saves us 1000s of hours on content and dev, and lets us centralize localization operations from source content capture to publication. Managing all the localization vendor ops and billing oversight in the platform is a bonus.
What do you dislike about the product?
By its very nature, it pushes you into consistent content across languages. Localization is so simple that when individual markets demand very different content, you end up managing a list of exceptions. This isn't any worse than managing variations in any other system, but it's contrasted against the simplicity of localizing identical content.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Localizing a complex site with multiple backend infrastructures, CMSes, ecommerce, and high availability ticketing engines into multiple languages. The platform allows us to replace enormous dev and content resources with a tiny team focused on platform and vendor management.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
When evaluating solutions, make sure to meticulously catalog the number of dev and content admin hours that will be required to maintain and develop localized sites for each solution. Platform costs in the industry vary quite a bit, but in projects I was involved in, 90% of the ROI was found in reduced workloads and the time-to-live capability. API or more lightweight solutions seem appealing at first, but if you project development requirements 2 years into the future, the math changes completely.

What I like the best is that it keeps improving; I've been using it for nearly 2 years and many new options were added. It memories the oldest uploaded terms.

Basically nothing, the question that I have is explained bellow.

The great thing is it gives me a quality insight how my translation improved and it tracks it as well.

Give it go, it's worth it. It takes shorter to learn.
Best platform for collaboration on translation projects
What do you like best about the product?
I love the way Smartling structures my translation tasks and allows me to efficiently collaborate with my projects assigners.
What do you dislike about the product?
From the "Projects Dashboard", I wish links would actually take to a separate tab once the user clicks on "View Project". That way, the user would be able to progressively complete each project in a separate tab without having to then click to go back to the "Projects Dashboard". No big deal here but just a helpful way for users to complete their projects.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I review and edit our platforms content that's automatically translated in French (From U.S. English). I like how most of the French translations on Smartling keep the original context (Despite any complexity of the text), thus making my review/edit process less time-consuming.
Great for translation management
What do you like best about the product?
The preview mode is the best for reviewing material as it shows how it will show up on the actual visual.
What do you dislike about the product?
The email notifications are not descriptive nor helpful. More details would help.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are solving efficiency problems in our business. Sending coworkers one link to review is a lot easier than sending docs and examples of the visuals.
