Egnyte Review – Reliable, Secure, and Built for Business
What do you like best about the product?
Egnyte is a powerful and versatile platform for secure file storage, sharing, and collaboration. Its hybrid cloud capabilities make it especially valuable for organizations with both on-premise and remote work needs, allowing seamless access to files without sacrificing speed or security. The interface is clean and intuitive, making it easy for end users to navigate, while IT teams benefit from granular permission controls, robust auditing, and strong compliance features (HIPAA, GDPR, etc.).
Performance is strong for both local and remote access, and integration with Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, and other third-party apps is smooth. Mobile access is also reliable, enabling productivity on the go.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Egnyte is solving the challenge of securely storing, sharing, and managing files across a mix of in-office and remote environments. It eliminates the headaches of VPN dependency and slow file access, giving our team a consistent, reliable way to collaborate from anywhere. With its strong permission controls and detailed audit logs, we can confidently protect sensitive project data and meet compliance requirements without adding administrative burden.
For us, the biggest benefit has been increased efficiency and security—files are organized in one central, well-structured location, so employees spend less time searching for documents and more time focusing on their work. The ability to integrate with our existing tools like Microsoft 365 streamlines workflows, reduces duplication, and makes collaboration seamless.

What do you dislike about the product?
While Egnyte has been a strong performer for our A/E/C workflows, there are a few areas that could benefit from continued refinement. The user interface, while functional, could be more intuitive for new team members who are less tech-savvy. Occasionally, syncing large BIM files or navigating folder structures can feel slower than ideal, especially in bandwidth-limited environments. That said, these are relatively minor and have been improving with each update. Egnyte’s customer support has been responsive whenever we’ve had questions or needed assistance.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
As a growing architecture studio licensed in multiple states, Egnyte has solved one of our biggest operational challenges: securely managing and sharing large design files across remote teams, consultants, and clients. We work on fast-paced projects that require real-time collaboration — whether it's coordinating Revit models, sharing shop drawings, or issuing updated PDFs during construction. Egnyte allows us to do this seamlessly, without worrying about file version conflicts or data security.
It’s also helped us streamline compliance across jurisdictions by providing secure access controls and audit trails, which is essential when working with public agencies or on sensitive community projects. For a lean team like ours, Egnyte reduces IT overhead, keeps us agile, and lets us focus on design and client service — not tech troubleshooting. Ultimately, it's helped us work smarter, stay organized, and maintain the high level of professionalism our clients expect.

Secure File Sharing and Data Governance for Modern Teams
What do you like best about the product?
Egnyte strikes a rare balance between ease of use and robust security. Its hybrid cloud model is particularly impressive — it allows businesses to seamlessly combine on-premise file servers with cloud storage, which is perfect for organizations that need to manage large files or comply with strict data residency requirements.
What do you dislike about the product?
Pricing Can Be High for Small Teams
While Egnyte offers enterprise-level features, the pricing structure may feel expensive for startups or small businesses, especially if they don't fully use the advanced governance tools.
Steeper Learning Curve for Admins
The admin panel is powerful but can be overwhelming at first. Setting up user permissions, managing compliance templates, or configuring hybrid deployment requires some technical understanding.

Egnyte Holding Customer Data Hostage for $1,285—A Cautionary Tale for MSPs
What do you like best about the product?
Egnyte’s support staff have consistently been professional, knowledgeable, and easy to communicate with. I appreciated being able to speak with someone fluent in English who understood technical issues without requiring multiple handoffs. That part was a plus.
Ease of use was decent, but not anything special. I can get the same with Google Drive, OneDrive or Dropbox.
Ease of use was decent, but not anything special. I can get the same with Google Drive, OneDrive or Dropbox.
What do you dislike about the product?
Where do I begin? The biggest issue came when I needed short-term access to a single account for one of my customers. Egnyte refused, unless we paid for an entire year of service—$1,285.92—just to get two hours of access. That’s not flexibility, that’s extortion. We offered to pay a reasonable fee for limited access, but Egnyte wouldn’t budge.
Another major frustration: there is no free or included admin account. You must burn a paid license for even the most basic administrative access. As an MSP managing accounts for clients, this is a serious limitation.
Ease of Implementation and Inegration: Not terrific. I had to touch each user's computer to get the Egnyte client installed. Also, the client is unstable, but to be fair, the OneDrive client isn't very stable either.
Recommendations to others considering Egnyte:
If you're a managed service provider or you value fair business practices, think carefully. There are other platforms out there with more flexible policies and pricing that don't hold your data hostage. Dropbox is excellent and you can get a BAA. Same goes for OneDrive.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Egnyte solves the problem of centralized, secure file storage and access control, especially for businesses that need to meet strict compliance requirements (HIPAA, FINRA, etc.). It provides a hybrid option that works well for companies transitioning away from on-prem file servers but still needing local sync and offline access. There was a time, just a few years ago this was something special. Not so today, there are plenty of other choices out there that can meet and exceed your compliance requirements.
For my clients, especially in healthcare and construction, Egnyte helps by:
Enabling remote work without sacrificing security
Giving fine-grained access control to folders and files
Offering audit trails and DLP tools to meet compliance needs
Integrating with tools like Microsoft 365 while offering more control than OneDrive or Google Drive, but just barely.
That said, the benefits are undercut by rigid pricing and licensing models. The lack of a true admin license and the refusal to offer limited access options significantly reduce its value—especially for MSPs managing accounts across multiple clients.

Excellent Tool for Cloud Sharing and Storing
What do you like best about the product?
I like that it integrates seamlessly with file explorer, and that it's easy to share files or folders and customize who has access to them. I do use it everyday as all of my work files are stored in Egnyte.
What do you dislike about the product?
The only item I would like is to be able to customize sharing options directly from file explorer instead of having to go to the webb app.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Cloud storage and sharing of project files.
