    Computer & Network Security

Best of both worlds

  • July 02, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I really like the fact I can dedicate on-prem storage and replicate it out to the cloud and get granular with managing access.
What do you dislike about the product?
Now that it's been a few years using this product. I've learned the hard way that their terms are highly draconian. Sales team is very deceptive. There is a major disconnect with their customer base which is a disappointment.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Our on-prem file server is nice yet it lacks the features that Egnyte makes up for.

Egnyte- A great cloud storage solution for companies looking for external storage of secured data.

What do you like best about the product?
Securely transfers files.
Easy to use interface.
Explorer style UI makes it easy for end users to access, upload, download and edit files.
Nice feature is the comments area for a particular file. It allows for collaboration on a document and a notification option that the file was updated or edited to the other users.
What do you dislike about the product?
A faster cloud upload/download speed.
Their tech support is not always on the ball.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Egnyte was implemented across our company. We mapped out local network drives and were able to access Egnyte from the office like a regular shared drive. We are also able to access Egnyte from home (remotely). We basically use the service as our hard drive and as a cloud sharing device. This allowed us to share documents with external clients from the office and from home.

Egnyte helps us securely store all confidential day-to-day information so we don't lose the files. Egnyte enables our organization to offer employees file access and file sharing between employees and business partners, usually from any device and at any time, so colleagues can share files locally and internationally with ease.

I would highly recommend Egnyte.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
For remote users and or employees it is a great solution for all to have easy and secure access to shared files. Also nice as a backup option for users personal documents. Might not be a full backup solution but an easy enough way to save documents and files that need to be saved elsewhere in case of a local failure, theft of computer or for disaster recovery.

It's very straight forward to use, granular permission, online and offline access.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's more expensive than, say, Google Drive
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use it as a cloud-hosted file storage system, similar to GDrive

Egnyte, an excellent safety and simple Cloud storage solution

  • June 25, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The simple and extremely secure access to files which can therefore be shared across your company. Also very important to note is that even if your computer fails or you are in someone else's office without your own computer, you can safely and remotely access any and all files on Egnyte.
What do you dislike about the product?
The elimination of the Desktop sync program, best for small businesses with limited individuals accessing critical corporate data.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Interoperability, security, file storage, simplified data and file sharing... Office 365, many others.

As a former President and CEO of a publicly traded Biotech company and presently a professional consultant and Pres/CEO of my new companies, while I hereby give full permission for Egnyte to contact me directly for additional information, I do not provide the rights for them to use my writing or likeness without appropriate compensation, which I do not believe $10 is in any way sufficient. I've been a user of Egnyte since 2012 and have provided them more than enough free advice. Therefore, I recommend that my substantial experience and knowledge of their company and platform is something of great value and thereby offer my professional services to them, should they be interested.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I'm thrilled with the ability to use it on my iPhone as an almost completely stand alone unit including modifying documents, accessing all files, saving, modifying, adding new files, etc.

Good tool for collaboration with cloud capabilities

  • June 24, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Egnyte is a great tool for sharing files, storing files, granting access to team members on cloud. The best feature about this is limiting data access as per the user access thus having enhanced security access. It does not require any user training and is really just drag and drop and has a good user interface. It also supports mobile version though that may depend on your organisation's settings. It is also slightly cheaper than Dropbox.
What do you dislike about the product?
While Egnyte is a great tool it does orient towards large enterprise users. For small business this may not be an ideal tool. Also if the user wants to have a free trial before purchasing the product, the time duration is short. Also compared to Sharepoint it does not integrate with other Microsoft tools like Office, Teams for a seamless experience.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Collaboration, File sharing in real time on cloud with data access works best on Egnyte. It can support large file sizes that are not readily available in all the tools.

Egnyte works great for our large collaboration

  • June 23, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
As part of a collaboration, our team has used Egnyte since 2013. We have stored all of our workings and completed documents on Egnyte since the partnership started. The site is intuitive, and I found it very easy to find, upload, and download documents. As long as your team uses a sound filing system and standardized nomenclature for all files and documents, then Egnyte is ideal for collaborations or workgroups. It stores a history of each version and you can view each of the versions to see what changes were made. Files can be previewed inside Egnyte without having to download it first and comments can be made on documents without downloading them first.
What do you dislike about the product?
I haven't found anything I disliked so far. My only complaint has nothing to do with Egnyte, it's that we have so many years of files and documents, I often have to figure out where someone stored what I am looking for.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Our collaboration has ranged from 10-13 organizations, all of which are active participants. This means we have agreements, proposals, reports, and many other documents to keep in a centralized location that everyone has access to when they need them. After over 7 years of storing documents, Egnyte has never failed us.

Works for desktop syncing. Can't set permissions for multiple folders at the same time.

  • June 22, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The ease of management of users and groups.
What do you dislike about the product?
Two-factor is a bit clunky, causes issues for standard users who don't use two factor. Applying permissions on hierarchy of folders is a nightmare and will definitely accelerate someone like me toward arthritis. Currently you have to set up each individual folder for access (unless you want the same access across all folders via inheritance). So if you want to lock down Folder 1 and its top level of folders, Folders A, B C, D, E, but allow the subfolders of A, B, C, D and E, lets call them A1, A2, A3, A4 and A5, to be editable to a group, you have to go into that folder and individually set each specific folder (A1, A2, A3, A4, A5) with the permissions you want, rather than selecting all of those folders and setting the permissions. You literally could make it in 5 clicks, but instead, you multiply that 5 clicks for each folder you have. So, in my experience, I have to click 300 times, when it should take me 30. Searching and tagging sucks and is ineffective on the desktop. You have to go to the website in order to tag. Searching through tags and content is only done in the Egnyte Connect App, that no user willingly wants to click on to search. Integration needs to be better for tags.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We eliminated the use of a VPN for data access and replaced it with Egnyte. It's nice and easy to manage, but setting it up c
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you need control over your files without some ridiculous $23k addon to apply permissions and other attributes to multiple files/folders at the same time, look elsewhere.

No Idea Why Anyone Would Choose Egnyte Over Google Drive or Microsoft OneDrive

  • June 10, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Egnyte Online has a more professional appearance than Google Drive for example and blends seamlessly into Windows folders.
Egnyte Web Edit - (Like Google Docs/Sheets) was a great addition
What do you dislike about the product?
Very confusing when trying to choose apps to integrate for users.
I am IT support for 50-100 users who all use Egnyte in some fashion.
I have multiple notes spanning 3 years about which Egnyte apps are good for what, who uses them, why they should use them. Egnyte "integrates" into so many other file sharing apps,
Here are some of my notes on setting up new users with Egnyte that I learned the hard way:

"Egnyte Connect Desktop App = Good one, install this one
Egnyte Desktop Sync = BAD, uninstall if you find it- don't install for new users
Egnyte WebEdit = Very Good, install, but teach users how to use it and that it exists"

User Groups and Permissions can get very confusing very fast if you don't have solid rules in place or more than one IT staff assigning users to folders.

You have to go hunting on the Egnyte website to get integrations like Egnyte Google Drive,
Egnyte Microsoft Office, Egnyte Connect Desktop,Egnyte Desktop Sync, and then download and install for each user individually, instead of "natural" integrations installing with regular updates. (These are all free, you don't pay extra to have these integration applications.)

Some users never complain and never have issues with syncing or losing their "Egnyte Folder" in Windows, but they are not the majority for us.

It is not intuitive enough for locked down users to troubleshoot on their own each time the sync disconnects, and too complicated for the IT staff of a medium sized company to control proactively.

To be fair, our Egnyte system was set up before I joined the company, but after 3 years and 10+ years of file sharing/collaboration and cloud storage programs, I still haven't grasped why anyone would choose this over Google Drive or Microsoft OneDrive or even DropBox.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
File sharing, cloud storage, collaboration

    Machinery

Clear and simple database, easy to use.

  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Advantages: Easy to use for the user. Navigation is friendly and modern.
What do you dislike about the product?
Once selected, the file should be enlarged, using the example of a larger photo.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
By using Egnyte I solve the problem of the global availability of the technical and service documentation. Everyone has access online. It also helps in further work together.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
A simple, understandable system, easy for the user.
