I have been using Apptio Costing for the past eight years; even in my previous organization, I was using Apptio Costing.
The customization reporting in Apptio Costing provides straightforward analysis and financial insights, leading to cost transparency and planning that supports our business cases. In my opinion, the best features that Apptio Costing offers are providing a common language for our business, tech, and finance teams, customization reporting, and transparency into IT spend, which allows for forecasting and dashboards.
The platform capabilities in optimizing cost management processes include detailed expense tracking, cost transparency, and efficient financial planning functionality.
Apptio Costing has positively impacted my organization by delivering cost transparency, especially in the IT department.
What needs improvement?
I think there is still room for improvement because, in my opinion, the ITP, IT Planning interface is a bit clunky.
The BI reporting is not on par with competing BI software from other firms.

I have seen a return on investment; we have acceleration of the planning processes, a controlled environment, automation that saves time and cost, and project accounting has been great and transparent.

My experience with the pricing, setup cost, and licensing is that the licensing is very affordable and the cost is very effective.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Before choosing Apptio Costing, I evaluated other options including IBM Cloudability, SAP Cloud ERP, and Microsoft Project Server.
What other advice do I have?
The advice I would give to others looking into using Apptio Costing is that it is an essential tool for all corporate planning processes for IT and allows for bottom-up planning. It is also very easy to use for non-IT programmers and has high flexibility.
Budgeting and a user-friendly interface are also important features. The in-app documentation is helpful, and usability from an end-user perspective depends very much on the reports designed by the TBMS.

The willingness of the agents and engineers to offer assistance whenever necessary is something I truly appreciate, as it ensures I can always get help when I encounter challenges. Additionally, I am impressed by the capabilities of IBM Apptio, especially highlighted during a recent conference, which encourages me to utilize it even more extensively. In my personal experience, it simplifies reporting processes, making it easier and more efficient to generate and analyze reports. Moreover, the initial setup was very easy, making the transition to using IBM Apptio smooth and stress-free. Given all these positive aspects, I confidently rate my likelihood of recommending IBM Apptio to others as a 10 out of 10.
What do you dislike about the product?
I am frustrated by IBM Apptio being slow when saving data. This issue is exacerbated by the fact that if I click out of the tab before the save is complete, it does not retain the entry, causing additional frustration and inefficiency in my workflow.

I use IBM Apptio for project tracking and budgeting, and it provides better reporting and transparency in technology cost ownership. It's user-friendly, making reporting easier, although data saving can be slow.
