Using a 30-yo product has pros and cons. Mostly pros.

What do you like best about the product?
The Domino server has been around a long time - more than 30 years. It may not be fashionable, but the server is solid. I'm guessing most of the code paths in the product have been run through many times and bugs shaken out. The security model is super-sophisticated - you can do pretty much anything you can imagine in terms of security settings. Notes/Domino implemented a "No-SQL" database model before No-SQL was cool. Also, it provides everything in a single package. That makes it super easy to implement.
What do you dislike about the product?
The underlying architecture of the product is based on a client-server model, as befits the, ahem, "maturity" of Domino. The Notes client was great back in the mid-90s when you needed to hook your laptop up to a modem, plug into a phone line, and replicate data back and forth across a shaky V.32 connection. These days it's largely irrelevant, which means your choices are either to run apps hosted on the HTML server that's been added on to Domino or to use Nomad Web, which implements the client bit of the setup in a browser. Either way, there's a slightly unnatural feel to the architecture of running Domino apps in the 21st century that has caused some customers, perhaps unwisely, to abandon the platform. In our experience, however, the grass is rarely greener on the other side of that particular fence.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are an HCL business partner and support thousands of clients in more than 60 countries worldwide. Those clients have used Domino to create applications that, in many cases, run their entire business. Anything from simple threaded discussion databases to full-blown CRM systems.

Performance, Security, and Time-Tested

What do you like best about the product?
So much to like, but I tend to focus on reliability, security, performance, and scalability. Domino embodies these four qualities and never fails to deliver day in and day out.
What do you dislike about the product?
I sometimes wish for more native connectivity with other industry-standard products like MS Word and MS Excel for reporting and output. Reporting has always been a deficiency in Notes/Domino environments.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Domino checks all my boxes every day. Low cost to own and administer, true rapid development, a container for unstructured data sets, and a secure presence on the Internet.

Genuine Developer side review.

What do you like best about the product?
Security is good,
Domino refuses to die, but no new job creation in the job market for the last 4-5 years.
When we talk to general notes users, who use mailing and notes apps, they say installation is tricky.
What do you dislike about the product?
The development speed of development needs to improve. UI needs to improve. Web conversion should be a bit easy; conversion to Xpages is building app from scratch; the business will do in another tech only if they do not absolutely love notes.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Doing changes in applications, supporting existing ones

DOmino is constanstly evolving and changing. It keeps up with the latest security protocols. It provides the best of multiple different platforms - email, data design, workflow, calendaring and collaboration.
What do you dislike about the product?
HCL Notes client needs to be more lightweight. It has a heavy footprint on the pc and is complicated to remote support.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
HCL Domino provides are corporate intranet, mail, and workflow applications. Quick development lifecycle provides instant feedback from business teams and allows for a short project lifecycle.

Information is easy to structure, filter, and find quickly. In there, you create a replica.
What do you dislike about the product?
Administration tools are somewhat dated and clunky.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
So one of the most significant advantages is that the program can be used on the road. You always have central access and generally get information quickly.
