What do you like best about the product?
It is very easy to integrate and immediately starts to give you really useful stats, mainly with the N+1 issues. Support is great they are very responsive and always willing to help.
What do you dislike about the product?
Pagerduty integration is done using a third-party app, but they mentioned that they will change that in the near future
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Performance optimization and monitoring.

Better NewRelic

What do you like best about the product?
Excellent integration with GithubGets expensive with higher throughput
What do you dislike about the product?
May get expensive with higher throughput. Could be more helpful with reducing these costs with some sort of sampling tools.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use Scout for Ruby on Rails platform monitoring.
It's an invaluable tool used by the team when hunting down slow APIs, background jobs or even checking what caused an overall slow-down on the database server.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I already recommended Scout to a few other teams at my organisation.
It has everything you'd expect from the application monitoring: performance metrics, release tracking, histograms with response time distribution, full visibility into sample traces with an excellent integration with Github. You can literally see a timeline showing the execution of your code.
It equipped me with everything I need to be effective as a technical leader and proactively tackle any application performance issues

Scout APM really helps me performing my job!

  • January 28, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
What really got my attention about Scout is the user experience compared to other APM's. The user interface is really user-friendly and intuitive so I didn't have to spend time looking at documentation other than clicking around and finding the information that I was looking for. The dashboard shows right away critical information for my work such as request latency, N+1's, memory bloat and slow queries. Also, the ability to compare and analyze performance in the timeline hit the sweet spot.
What do you dislike about the product?
I miss an easier way to filter my controllers in the dashboard dropdown.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Mostly chasing performance bottlenecks like N+1's and memory bloat

Great product, easy to use

  • January 28, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Everything is easy. Setup and configuration is a breeze, and once you are collecting data the dashboards make it dead simple to identify opportunities for optimization and to be alerted if one of your applications (or a particular part of it) is misbehaving. Tracing with AutoInstrument and custom contexts makes understanding usage patterns and how they affect overall performance. Left New Relic for Scout 5 years ago and have never looked back.
What do you dislike about the product?
I'd like to be able to access data older than 30 days in the UI.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Scout handles our application performance management - tracking performance over time and identifying what parts of our application are running slowly and need more capacity/optimization. It also helps us understand resource usage at a granular level which assists with load testing and capacity planning.

It has been helpful for us

  • January 28, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
What is there to say about ScoutAPM, it is a very friendly and always replies to queries promptly, the UI of the product is quite intuitive and in addition to that we were offered a demo in order to better understand how to best squeeze the most out of it. Definitely in the short amount of time that we've used it, it has already proven it's usefulness by giving us the opportunity to see part of the platform which were not performing up to the standard we expected, making it easier for us to make them better.

I would definitely recommend ScoutAPM, as I did with my boss, to everyone who is willing to have a better understanding of what is happening under the hood even out of office hours.

Hope this helps, have a nice day.
What do you dislike about the product?
We haven't been users for long, and so far we haven't found anything we don't like
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We mostly wanted to be able to profile peaks happening outside business hours related to PHP, and we've been able to continuosly monitor the performances and solve them and to find consistent bottlenecks which needed to be addressed

How I benefit from ScoutAPM on legacy code

  • January 28, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Break down on tracing and resource usage. Especially when working on legacy architecture. Fixing and pointing to leakage is a different beast on itself. Implementing scout APM help me with that. Ease of implementing and wide support mean it is easy to setup and modify.
What do you dislike about the product?
No clear legend on graph color when comparing improvement. Once I spent quite a time figure out if the fix improve things or make things worse. Separate graph for different concern will also help a lot.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
n+1 query problem on old stacks that it is hard to determine the query builder. Slow API detection and checking if the fix made any progress. Detecting at which endpoint wasting the most resource, and if it really need that much resources
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you need quick to setup monitoring system on old architecture. scout APM provide it quickly to try and custom as you want. It help give quick view if the service is the correct one for your need.

A strong SAAS monitoring tool at a good price

  • January 27, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Scout's UI is intuitive, and the app provides the visibility we need into our Rails app's performance over time. Scout makes good use of modern web visualization tools to present data in ways that are easy to understand and interpret. A particularly valuable feature is the ability to compare performance from two different time periods of varying length. The alerts function lets us set up fine-grained notifications when certain metrics aren't in the ranges we like. This is really helpful. Scout's pricing is affordable for a small SAAS business like mine — the cost-benefit versus other providers of similar services is a slam-dunk.
What do you dislike about the product?
It would be great if Scout offered a longer look-back period than 7 days. It can sometimes be a little slow to process query requests, but given the scope of data analyzed that's pretty understandable. The app does seem to hold more data than simply "the past seven days", but you can only see that much data at once. There are of course tools that provide finer-grained or larger-scale performance data analysis, but they are priced exponentially higher than Scout, and often feature per-server based pricing rather than Scout's simple and predictable request-volume-based pricing.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We're able to identify endpoints with performance issues easily, and address them, speeding up the app. With Appdex, Scout also provides a simple overall metric for app performance that provides peace of mind (or the opposite when necessary). Scout's alerts have given us a heads up when usage was heading in a direction that needed watching but before AWS's auto-scaling kicks in.
