Very powerful and useful stats packages

  • April 27, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Very powerful and comprehensive software package. It is also one of the "gold standard" analysis tools among researchers.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some of the interfaces are not intuitive. Thankfully much information is available from various sources online to help the user learn how to set up tests.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I primarily use this for statistical analysis of collected data in research studies. It provides much more comprehensive results that other packages we use in my job.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Be sure to verify that the level of service you choose is appropriate for what you need. You will not want more advanced versions if you only wish to do basic analysis. Alternatively, you will want to buy high level versions if you are doing complex or comprehensive analysis.

The ultimate Statistics program for users of all types

  • April 17, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
+Very strong platform with many different options. Calculations are fast, and if you know how to use the program and what you are looking for it is incredibly powerful.
+Different types of output. Numerical outputs are possible, as are graphical results such as different types of charts, candlestick graphs, etc.
+Options. There are so many different options one can use in order to achieve a desired result. There is an integrated chart builder, an extensive suite of analytical tools, and many more. It's very, very powerful.
What do you dislike about the product?
-High skill curve. The program is a professional tier suite, and it can be difficult to first understand what options you must enable to achieve the desired result. The large amount of options, while a boon to experienced users, can be threatening to less knowledgeable users.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Variability and correlation is a difficult concept to quantify, but SPSS makes it easy. For instance, we were tasked with a project to quantify the numerical relationship between different variables in order to find the best correlation between two different variables. It was easy with SPSS as it calculates the figures quickly, and spits them out in an easy to read format.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Try GNU PSPP, and then realize how limiting the program is. SPSS is just so much more powerful and intuitive that it leaves PSPP in the dust. The program may seem overwhelming at first (like most professional suites such as Photoshop or 3DSMax), but it quickly becomes second nature to calculate specific results.

Good software for convenient data analysis with nice-looking output

  • April 12, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Easy-to-use software, can run all sorts of analysis quite easily. User interface is friendly, especially the latest version (22.0), which has a Mac-style design. Best part is that, you can do data analysis without manually putting in all formulas for every intermediate step, then you get really nice-looking output that you can literally copy and paste to any paper you are working on.
What do you dislike about the product?
Price - even if they work with university and have student rental discount, it's still like $100 every year. And I assume that if you buy the pro version permanently its gonna be a four figures. On the other hand, space is an illegal character in SPSS at most occasions, which can be very irritating when you just started using it. It makes sense because it does not want to to be confused when you have interaction and main effects at the same time in the output, but as I said, difficult to get used to when beginning.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Psychology department & Laboratory data analysis.

Good for basic statistical analyses, and teaching stats to first time students.

  • April 12, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Graphic interface makes it easier to use for people not well-versed in syntax, has all the functions needed for basic stats.
What do you dislike about the product?
Must learn syntax to run more complex analyses, and doesn't all have the tools I need in my research.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Using it to teach students statistics. It's a good tool to explain different tests and principles.

IBM SPSS

  • April 05, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
What I like the best about SPSS is that I can copy the syntax in the output file and paste it into a new syntax file, so that I can save the syntax and reuse it.
What do you dislike about the product?
SPSS can do a better job telling users where the mistakes are when users don't get the syntax right.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
SPSS is the primary data analysis software that I use for my work. I use SPSS for descriptive statistics and all sorts of multivariate analysis as well as factor analysis.

Simple and User Friendly for Quick Analysis. Limited in-built functions

  • April 04, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Ability to carry out quick analysis without performing any coding. The user interface is intuitive.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some complex analyses require ability to code and in depth knowledge of statistical theories. I found some of the functions built into other software such as Minitab
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Transportation Research

Good for Student and Stat beginner

  • February 29, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It is very user friendly and intuitive software. I have used it in the clinical research studies without stat background, but it was easy and good enough for most of the stat for clinical studies.
What do you dislike about the product?
It is heavy and slow... Other software, such as Stata and R, they are way faster.
Also it requires annual license fee (I used student package). R is for free, Stata requires only one time payment.
Graph/plot/table are nice but not modifiable.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I used it for clinical/academic research. Most of the stat for clinical research can be done with SPSS and it can be used for business analyses as well, such as forecasting.
Many students use it because the license fee for academic package is relatively cheap, so I could ask students to organize the file.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you are stat beginner, not tech savvy person and people around you use this software, the SPSS would provide you many benefits. I think this is a great start to learn stat.

    Marketing and Advertising

Amazing statistical data analysis software tool

  • February 15, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Various ways of viewing outputs to analyse a given set of data, thereby giving a wide spectrum of analysing data to describe, compare, examine and report.
What do you dislike about the product?
It is basic compared to other programs such as SAS and R. It is also expensive (r is a free tool)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Market research analytics to analyse mobile phones, user preferences and usage patterns amongst youth in developing countries.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Spss has basic graphical results when compared to R. Spss is very good with quantitative analysis and it is a very good beginners tool to get introduced to the world of physical and social science statistics.
