What do you like best about the product?
It's an amazing tool to use when you are trying to do quantitative research. I used this for multiple courses while earning my PhD and believe it could be a huge benefit to people doing research with numbers.
What do you dislike about the product?
It can be very difficult to load on certain computers. This tool is very powerful and strong doing calculations that could not be done on a computer 20 years ago.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It is huge with helping with quantitative research. This is one of the best tools out there!
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It is always improving and adding things to it. I'm not sure if it will get to a point to make aesthetically pleasing, but if it does, it will be the best out there.

Awkward At First But Does The Trick!

  • June 09, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I can get all of the stats and analytics I need with ease by writing my own formulas and designing the variables that work with my particular project. The analytics are amazing for this kind of work because I can output my data as a .txt file and import it directly to SPSS for a thorough analysis. SPSS has the option for coding your own statistical tests in addition to its "point and click" UI. This allows for more complex work if needed. It also allows me to export graphic representations of my data, analyze mean values and complex variants, etc. The scripting ability was also incredibly helpful. I also found it helpful that I could edit my information in forms and that you can easily output to accessible external software (Excel, etc).
What do you dislike about the product?
It can be less than user friendly at times but once you get the hang of it it feels less painful. It feels like a lot of the perks with this software are not easily discoverable to a new user and you need to spend a lot of time working with it to begin to discover better and faster ways of utilizing the product. I think this has to do with the complicated interface. The variable selection can be complicated and sometimes the outputs to software can get cut off depending on the program.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I can easily draw up reliable stats that meet the industry standard. I've only seen it used in psychology research, but I'd image the highly varied options for analysis would be helpful in almost any industry. SPSS is "intelligent" in that it automatically ignores common issues such as missing data points so that our data doesn't get skewed with is a real benefit which saves time and money!
Recommendations to others considering the product:
You will find it exceptionally useful once you get the hang of it!

Social Science Research Data Analysis

  • June 09, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
being able to start with a table builder and manipulate as i see fit for the particular data i am trying to display. Raking weights is also incredibly easy and cleaning a messy excel data set once I've converted it to .sav is a huge time saver.
What do you dislike about the product?
the warning and error messages can be cryptic and oftentimes i spend more time troubleshooting than i'd like
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
This software saves a lot of time and energy, and also helps ensure the data we are presenting to our clients is cleaned and accurate.

I use SPSS Statistics to compile and analyze data for a large, federally funded research project.

What do you like best about the product?
Learning the coding syntax is rather easy, and there is a lot of flexibility in the way you can manipulate and analyze data.
What do you dislike about the product?
There are some limitations with the syntax. For example, Python has a lot more options and is more customizable for programers. Therefore, SPSS is a bit slow, especially when using macros on large data sets.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
A main benefit of the software is that it is rather user friendly for professionals who are new to data management and coding.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
The software could add in some more customizable commands. Also, Python has "block" format coding that could be very beneficial for this software.

SPSS is great for managing small datasets, running quick descriptives and simple models

  • June 08, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I appreciate having the simple pull down menus to run quick analyses but also the ability to write iterative code when needed.
What do you dislike about the product?
I don't like the graphics and visual outputs or the inability to customize models easily. For visuals or complex models I will typically use R.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am running predictive and classification models mostly as well as running ANOVAs for consumer goods shelf-life protocol.
