SPSS - Love how easy it is
What do you like best about the product?
An easy way to analyze your data without having to code for the tests. Everything is just a click away and the tutorials are amazing. I learned this program in undergrad and used it throughout my masters program. I really wish companies would use it more so than SAS since I think it is very user friendly.
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish there was a way to correlate the command in the syntax with its corresponding output on the output window.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Analyzing data.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I've only rented the software from my school and used it at the organization I work at. It would be nice for more companies to switch to or at least offer SPSS as an option. However, the rental price for SPSS is not very expensive.
Used to make statistical models with large data sets.
What do you like best about the product?
It is user friendly and easy to demonstrate results to non stat savvy audiences.
What do you dislike about the product?
Old files won't reopen unless the newest version has been purchased.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Logistic regression modeling.
Makes Analysis Simple
What do you like best about the product?
It's easy to see and understand what you are doing.
What do you dislike about the product?
There's no automatic saving and it would be nice if the graphics were better.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I work in social cultural research - this product makes my life easy!
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I would recommend blending SPSS for your analysis with excel for your graphics.
SPSS is user friendly
What do you like best about the product?
The point and click capabilities of SPSS make the software very user friendly and intuitive for those just learning statistics, but also has advanced capabilities for those with higher level statistical skills.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is nothing I particularly dislike about the software. I do wish there was an easier way to transfer information to Word.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am working on traffic safety statistics and this software has been easy to use for this purpose. It's also been easy to teach to newcomers.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Try it out. You will not be disappointed.
yay statistics!
What do you like best about the product?
like point and click plus writing syntax capabilities
What do you dislike about the product?
i don't think there is anything i really dislike...
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
analyzing data
SPSS
What do you like best about the product?
Somewhat of an industry standard, have been using it since college.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's not open source, can be very slow and not very good with large data sets.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Just general analytics, nothing special
Still a Beginner
What do you like best about the product?
I like the help feature of SPSS the best. I am constantly teaching myself new things and learning from it. It has been really useful for our data analysis and also in classes I've taken. I also like the multiple windows separating the syntax from data from output.
What do you dislike about the product?
I can't think of anything I dislike right now! It's been so great to use and learn with!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
On past projects, we used it to analyze data from teacher professional development workshops. We tested teachers pre and post and then used SPSS to check for reliability of the instruments, score the tests, and do paired t-tests on the sample.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Use the help feature! It's so great! :)
Perfect software for statistical analysis
What do you like best about the product?
I have used a couple of different statistical softwares. IBM SPSS (Statistical analysis in social science) is an amazing software, one stop shop for all the statistics related analysis. The graphical user interface is elegantly built for ease. I was quickly able to learn and use it.
What do you dislike about the product?
Although SPSS has good data visualization capabilities, I sometimes feel it is not up to the mark when compared to other softwares available in the market. Also, interacting with and making changes to the visualization is difficult in SPSS software.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am working on a research data analysis project to find co-relation between two entities and perform predictive analytics. SPSS is my software of choice due to its intuitive nature.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Have basic understanding of statistical concepts; leave the rest to the software. It has it all.
Point and click could not be easier to use
What do you like best about the product?
Output that is client ready with no additional formatting. It saves me a lot of time!
What do you dislike about the product?
Built-in charting could be better, but that's about it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
While there are less expensive statistics software available, SPSS lets me create client-ready output much easier than anything else I've encountered. I also like the added confidence of a point and click/graphical user interface.
Powerful statistics program, easy to use interface
What do you like best about the product?
SPSS is a great stats program. I have used many other programs (R, STATA, etc.), and SPSS is one of the easiest to use programs that has drop down menus and runs all of the basic stats tests that are needed for academic or practitioner research. It allows for general linear models, regression, ANOVA, t-tests, and mediation (e.g., with the addition of PROCESS macros). Data can be directly downloaded from modern survey software (e.g., Qualtrics) or can be imported from excel or other tab-delimited programs. Results can be exported to pdf, word document, or other files that can be shared with someone that does not have the SPSS program. It is the only program that I use now (except for other programs needed to run structural equation modeling) and the only program that I recommend to the students that I teach.
What do you dislike about the product?
It is hard to say dislikes because this program is so great. There are some tests that it is not able to run, such as structural equation models. Although you can get supplementary programs by IBM, such as AMOS that can utilize data in SPSS to run the necessary models. Sometimes the program can freeze if you are running it on an old computer, which will make me utilize excel to code data first prior to putting in SPSS.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am academic that conducts research as part of my job. As such, SPSS allows me to conduct research to better understand how variables relate to one another. I study how consumers respond to advertising, so in a sense, the program is helping me to solve problems of getting consumers to pay attention to advertising and helping business' design more effective advertisements. The benefits I have realized is huge time savings over other programs that are harder to use or do not have all the basic stats tests available.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Download the trial version and see what you think. To be unbiased, try STATA and R, and you will quickly see why SPSS is easier to use. Also, make sure your computer has the necessary processor requirements to prevent the program from freezing during use.
