Tableau as a BI solution provides a platform to develop user-friendly, story telling dashboards, which provide insights to help management take decisions.
What is most valuable?
The solution has a lot of customization when comparing to Microsoft BI.
What needs improvement?
The customization requires a lot of effort and should be simplified. The performance could be better. When comparing the performance of Tableau to other solutions, such as Microsoft BI, they are not as good.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Tableau for approximately four years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The stability is very good.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Tableau has good scaling capabilities.
We have approximately 30 to 40 users using this solution in my organization.
How are customer service and support?
The support is good for Tableau. However, if we ask for a certain feature they will not entertain us, unless other customers are also asking for the same feature.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We previously were using Microsoft BI and we switched to Tableau because of the increased level of customization it provides. Microstrategy can also be a considerable alternative.
How was the initial setup?
The installation is complicated and took us approximately four hours.
What about the implementation team?
It would be best to use an integrator or other professional assistance for the implementation.
We have approximately two engineers that handle the maintenance of the solution.
What was our ROI?
Our management can take decisions based on insights provided by Tableau, which are smart and help us reduce costs and data issues.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
There is a license for the use of this solution and it is on a per-user basis. The server is free but the users you have to pay for.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We performed a POC before going with Tableau, we tried Power BI because Power BI is competing against tableau. But to use Power BI at its full potential, you need the Power BI cloud edition, which our organization cannot go with. So the obvious choice was to go with Tableau.
What other advice do I have?
Tableau is very good, but customers have to understand the requirements of hardware and software the way Tableau works. If they have some requirements that Tableau cannot meet, they will understand how to do it in an alternate way.
I rate Tableau an eight out of ten.

Appearance! Making more intricate visuals like heat maps as well.
What do you dislike about the product?
The learning curve. It can be a very intricate system to learn.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Making professional visual presentation and using larger amounts of raw data. Unlike Excel.

Definely watch some training videos!

What do you like best about the product?
I can create multiple custom dashboards for any provider or measure. It is easy to see the data visually, and it looks very organized and neat. The data from the EHR should come across easily.
What do you dislike about the product?
It takes multiple steps to create a dashboard, and if you do not have the correct filters, it can be difficult to locate data. You can not share the dashboard easily.

I can create custom dashboards for each provider, department, or company.

This is a good visualisation tool to use with very good features.

The tool is a bit slow at times. Also the different tabs could be better.

Tableau is highly customizable. Any visualization with any data set is seemingly possible if the architect setting it up is capable enough.

It can be quite complex to configure. Performance can sometimes be slow. Visualizations sometimes don't look as crisp as I would like.

It solved the problem of having a data dashboard accessible to external clients and managed internally by my team. It allows near real-time data sharing with business partners.

Tableau Desktop is very easy to create complex reports/dashboards in the minimal time period.

Visualization features, mobile-friendliness, multiple data source connections

Poor collaboration features, limited BI capabilities, embedment issues
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I have used Tableau for translating hard to interpret data to easy-to-understand charts, high-level analysis trending, and presentation materials. I have found Tableau to be useful for many of my analysis and business operations needs.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
For dashboards, I recommend clearing identifying and documenting business requirements before creating a dashboard, or even the draft for the dashboard. The 80/20 rule works best, where 80 % of the time to produce a dashboard should be put into planning rather than building.
Really good data visualization tools for complex data sets
What do you like best about the product?
I really enjoy the multitude of ways data can be displayed in Tableau. The drag and drop nature of the program makes viewing one set of data as a function of another informative. It is also easy to export those data findings to share with colleagues or on the web.
What do you dislike about the product?
Learning to use the platform can be tricky. With so many ways to display the data, choosing the best one and, more importantly, getting the scaling correct can be a bit of a challenge. It is also tough to work with very large data sets without refining them a bit.

We have used Tableau to display infographics of our member base to prepare a marketing plan.

Watch the training videos on the Tableau site! They are very helpful and give a good idea of how to use the platform.

What do you like best about the product?
Tableau is a very user-friendly software to use. It allows you to make graphs and charts, as well as static or dynamic dashboards. You can also perform various types of data joins, merges and deduping. You can also perform complex calculations with variables and graph the results.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some of the syntax for complex calculations can be complicated and confusing.

It allows for forecasting sales, so you can make predictions based on sales history
