Gain clarity in financial presentations and face challenges with data preparation

  • April 14, 2025
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We mainly use Tableau for financial presentations.

What is most valuable?

Tableau is extremely good at dashboard creation, providing clear and concise visual presentations. The most beneficial feature is its ability to present data cleanly and effectively. However, setting it up and using it with large datasets can be challenging. Tableau excels in visualization, making presentations efficient.

What needs improvement?

I find data prepping in Tableau challenging to understand, perhaps because I am new to it. It sometimes requires extensive investigation to determine why the data does not appear correctly. Currently, I rely on community support to answer my queries, and it is still early for me to provide further comments on improvement.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Tableau for less than a year.

What was my experience with deployment of the solution?

There were challenges in getting accustomed to the functionality of Tableau, especially since I am used to Microsoft products. Certain criteria needed a lot of experimentation, particularly in data prepping. Sometimes the data doesn't appear as expected, leading to extensive investigative work.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I have not faced any issues with the stability of Tableau.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I am still working towards understanding the scalability of Tableau. Currently, I have not encountered any limitations, but I am still exploring and replacing current tools. It is too early to comment on scalability issues.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We previously used Microsoft Power BI. Power BI seems more powerful for data massaging and processing compared to Tableau. However, Tableau is superior in terms of visualization.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was a bit challenging, particularly because I was used to Microsoft products. It took some time to get certain criteria right, but it has become easier over time.

What about the implementation team?

The setup was conducted through my IT team, who provided me with the license.

What was our ROI?

We have not derived any significant benefits yet as we are still in the exploration stage, except for one time-saving achievement.

What other advice do I have?

If you have many presentations, I recommend Tableau. However, if your focus is on heavy data processing or data prepping, Tableau may not be the best choice. I would rate Tableau a 7 out of 10.

Real-time data connection enhances workflow and decision-making process

  • April 14, 2025
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

In our organization, we use Tableau for several use cases. The first one is the sales dashboard, which includes sales performance reports, leads, and opportunity status dashboards. The second use case involves financial analytics dashboards, such as 'what-if' analytics in financial terms.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable features of Tableau include the drag-and-drop functionality and the ease of use of the user interface. A significant feature for me is the real-time connection to data sources because it effectively manages large data sets. Additionally, the real-time data processing eliminates the lack of timely reports or dashboards, allowing for hour-by-hour updates instead of monthly or weekly ones.

What needs improvement?

An area for improvement in Tableau is the Explorer license type. It is not as useful, and the product owner should enhance its benefits or clarify its role. Additionally, the frequent updates with many versions available for download can be confusing and could affect stability. They should avoid providing access to older versions on their website.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with Tableau for three years.

What was my experience with deployment of the solution?

The deployment process involves creating the dashboard on my PC or notebook and then sending the workflow to the IT team, who helps with the deployment. Only two people were needed for control and training, making it cost-effective.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I rate the stability a five or six because Tableau updates very often with new versions or patches. This requires downloading the latest version, but older versions are also visible, which can lead to confusion.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I rate the scalability of Tableau at eight. Tableau is easy to use across various dimensions, whether on-premises or on the cloud. Whether it's installation, configuration, dashboard creation, or deployment, it's seamless in both environments.

How are customer service and support?

The customer service and support for Tableau in Thailand are excellent. They provide quick email and phone responses and have Thai-speaking personnel. Being part of Salesforce adds to their efficiency and responsiveness.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I used Power BI and Oracle Analytics Cloud before Tableau. My decision to switch wasn't due to the inadequacy of the tools but primarily influenced by the end user's needs and the integration with existing infrastructure. For instance, if a client is already using Google Cloud, they prefer Looker; for on-premises, Tableau is preferred.

How was the initial setup?

I rate the initial setup an eight, as it is easy to complete. You can download the necessary software from their website and then license it by adding the license key. It's a straightforward process.

What about the implementation team?

The deployment involved myself and another person for training and control. We were able to manage the deployment internally without the need for external help.

What was our ROI?

The ROI of using Tableau extends to its seamless integration across various platforms, as it's from Salesforce and thus not limited to any specific cloud provider. This enhances connectivity and saves on total project costs.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Tableau is rated an eight because it is pretty expensive compared to alternatives like Power BI. The pricing could be reconsidered based on the region, especially in Asia Pacific, considering local budget constraints.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I evaluated alternatives like Power BI, Looker Studio from Google, and Oracle Analytics Cloud before choosing Tableau. The choice was primarily driven by the need to align with the client's existing IT infrastructure.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, I would rate Tableau as an eight out of ten. While its features and integration capabilities are impressive, there's room for improvement in the stability brought about by frequent updates.

Great BI & query tool

  • April 08, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I think what separates tableau from other BI tools is the easiness and power of its querying capability- it allows non technical stakeholders to perform what would be pretty complex queries with ease through its very good drag and drop interface!
What do you dislike about the product?
There’s some things you need to get your head around with different levels to dimensions which does leave some margin for error if you’re not familiar with it’s DAX.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Quick answers to simple questions & ability to create really powerful dashboards!

What do you like best about the product?
The best thing about Tableau is that Tableau offers integrated visual best practices, enabling unrestricted data exploration while maintaining your analytical momentum. This is one of the reasons users enjoy working with Tableau, including me!
What do you dislike about the product?
The only downside of Tableau might be the cost-effective issue. It is expensive and the customer support is a hit and miss!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Tableau tackles the challenge of making data more accessible and comprehensible for all by offering user-friendly visual analytics. It allows users to link to multiple data sources, build interactive dashboards, and effortlessly share insights, encouraging decisions based on data.

Good, but difficult to switch from MS products

  • April 05, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Charts, had more advanced/complex functions than Power BI.
Also I think Tableu is more sutable for astheic design, while most of Power BI reports look about the same.
Real life example could be data table sorting issue with Power BI, where end user not allways can sort tables (if functions were used to create table), I think Tableu did not have this issue.
What do you dislike about the product?
Difficult to switch from MS products, Tableau is more advanced, but also more complex. Power BI is easier to learn in my opinion.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I was creating charts for managers to monitor company perfomance. Usully for special events performance.

Good for work

  • April 04, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I don't usually have enough time to browse around see what a platform can do, so I do think and would like to recommend Tableau that it is very user friendly and everything is approachable.
What do you dislike about the product?
I don't really see the downsides to this platform.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Tableau helps people and businesses make sense of large amounts of data by turning numbers into easy-to-understand charts, graphs, and interactive dashboards. It connects to different data sources, updates in real time, and allows users to explore data without needing technical skills. I think that would be it. And the support is very nice.
