Miro - My One-Stop-Shop for All Things Collaboration

  • August 30, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The best thing about Miro is the ability to collaborate over virtually anything! As a Strategic Business Analyst and Project Manager, I often have to brainstorm, conceptualize and facilitate discussions around strategies, plans and concepts within the business. Miro is my go-to whenever I have to start something new because if I am stuck and do not know where to begin, there are tons of templates and suggestions which I can build off. The interface and elements are intuitive which makes it so much easier to edit and adapt any existing templates to suit my business scenario.
What do you dislike about the product?
I have been using Miro for a number of months now and I guess sometimes, the choices at my disposal make for a stumbling block with getting started. However, this is something that time, practice and experience will eventually solve. In a recent webinar, I was introduced to the Miro Academy which is a trove of information that is helping me get acquainted with the platform.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am predominantly solving conceptualization and facilitation problems with Miro. The visual element of this collaboration tool makes it very easy to work with others on brand new concepts or ideas, especially considering the Work From Home situation we have come to adapt to. Being able to visually depict abstract concepts, at times simultaneously collaborating with my colleagues, helps speed up the process and bring everyone onto the same page.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I would advise those considering Miro to go ahead and sign-up for a basic (free) user account and get to experience the app/platform before signing up for a full account. Because of the vast amount of things you can do on the platform, it would be good to know your way around before you sign up.

Great for online collabs. Brings back all the feels of working with physical post-its :)

  • August 29, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Makes visualisation a breeze for online collaborations, especially for collabs where alot of Design Thinking, User Journey Mapping etc processes are used.

The sticky note function and ease of clustering or moving it - i think it mimics real-life usage of post-its for ideation sessions and feedback sessions. It was fast, seamless and an all-round pleasure to use for clustering and further analysis of the responses. Stickies could also be easily resized.

The lock function - i think some may underrate this but for me, this was one of the most helpful functions available when collaborating online, especially with people who are new to the platform. Being able to lock items on the board (frames/diagrams/stickies/pictures etc) to prevent accidental shifting by collaborators was a huge plus and a total time saver. The time that i would have had to spend on moving the items back could be channelled towards other things in the collaboration.

The templates - they were very helpful and there is quite a variety to choose from as well.

Creating frames and being able to present these frames as slides directly from miro was very helpful in having to double the work of creating a google slide deck for it.

The "bring to me button" - this was super useful in bringing any group member who may be lost in the navigation of the boards over to the specific frame you are working on. Saves time from having to "hunt down" the collaborators and guiding them to go where you want them to. Used it often during my collabs when working with new users.
What do you dislike about the product?
Screenshots - Somehow when taking screenshots and copying it to another software like ppt/google slides, significant resolution is lost.

Switching between the pan mode vs normal cursor and edit modes. Am accessing Miro via a web browser on a Windows laptop. The shortcut that the Mac users have to switch between these 2 modes does not seem to work for me, which makes it tougher as i have to remember to click on the side icon menu to make sure i am in the correct mode while navigating the miro board.

Spacing between frames - thought it would be good if Miro could advise on the ideal spacing between frames such that neighbouring frames do not show up in presentation mode.

Lack of simulataneous editing within the same text box. Sometimes users who edit text within the same text box forgets to unclick the text box when they are done. As such, i will not be able to edit that text box until they unclick it, which is frustrating

Lack of ability to edit background of the pictures/icons i paste in.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
As part of my studies - a slew of projects relating to user journey mapping, experience design, design thinking, empathy map with users etc

I think miro is great for capturing everything in one side, via a flat layout. Depending on how you would structure the information needed, miro can serve as a great tool for presenting your ideas and research.

Miro is also a nice tool to use for workshop/class engagement, where all participants can come onto the same board and work on their projects/discussions in different frames. It is chaotic at times but it is great to see all the work come together in various boards.

Miro shines when doing analysis and clustering of results. The ease of moving and grouping the sticky notes is my fav feature of this platform. Saves us from wasting paper too compared to real life postit notes clustering. Plus everything is captured digitally so its just a matter of exporting the work to share about it on other platforms.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Try it. There may be some initial confusion as you get started, but it is worth it. Unless there is a better tool, i foresee myself using miro for quite my work/studies/personal projects.

Miro our Visual Collaboration hero

  • August 29, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The most astonishing thing about Miro is that the team can work more seamlessly on creative things from project planning to execution through visualization. I also find its inbuilt communication feature quite helpful as we also regularly conduct meetings and real-time discussions using its real-time chatting and video conferencing feature.
What do you dislike about the product?
Because the new user onboarding part is quite limited compared to the breadth of features, new users may find themselves in an uncomfortable position while attempting to use the possibilities of this great productivity tool fully.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We consider Miro to be an essential member of our team, regardless of whether or not we are working from a remote location, since it is so helpful in fostering creative team communication. We are now able to interact more realistically and creatively, thanks to the Miro.

Amazing software for the ideation, visualization, and collaboration

  • August 27, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It's easily one of the most user-friendly UX's I've ever used... every person I've put in front of it regardless of their technical skills seems to pick it up rather quickly.
What do you dislike about the product?
Very few things to write here... not sure if there's a way yet but it would be nice to have your own object templates that are organized in their own library
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It helps with exploring nearly every kind of problem and translating any process... it's beauty is in it's simplicity
Recommendations to others considering the product:
try it! see if you like it before having an opinion

Doing great things together and remotely

  • August 26, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Besides build around collaboration, Miro has excellent templates that help you get up to speed and jump into what matters.
I've done a couple of workshops, and I also think using Miro is better than using real post-its.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes I miss more tools to illustrate, as other kind of software has.
For mindmaps, I'd love to have more tools like Mindomo has (to create more complex mindmaps and structure ideas)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I'm doing workshops. You can organize and categorize the information better and faster than with real post-its while addressing one of the most significant pain points at workshops: documentation.
I'm also creating UX artifacts, like user flows and journeys.
One of the biggest problems we're solving is having all the project documentation in the same place. Like having a big wall with everything: journeys, references, key research insights, etc
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Miro is a great platform for teams, with great and very valuable templates that can help you get up to speed and focus on what matters

Great collaboration tool

  • August 26, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It's great for remote teams, collaboration sessions, workshops and showcasing work in meetings. As a project manager, it works great with providing a hub for teams to dump their work in progress, get feedback and knowledge sharing especially when onboarding new team members.
What do you dislike about the product?
I'm not keen on the scaling feature; it's of course very useful as you can continue to add to your board however the sizing of objects becomes quite inconsistent and you will find the need to scroll in or out a lot to be able to read things clearly which can also lag in loading. I'd also like to see more grid options similar to PowerPoint. We often use Miro quite informally and in a 'rough and ready' fashion but it's an excellent tool for kick-off meetings and presentations where you want things to look just that little bit clean and slick for clients.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
There have been difficulties in knowledge sharing and onboarding primarily in remote times which we've been able to improve. We've been able to do this by using Miro as a one-stop-shop for all things project related to make things easier for the whole team.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I would recommend that others using for the first time, check out their Miro Academy. They have lots of easy-to-digest courses to get you started and become familiar with the functions and navigation. I would then also suggest checking out the templates and community areas - lots of use cases and ideas to get you started!

Handy tool for creatively portraying ideas and concepts

  • August 26, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
With Miro, you can literally draw your thoughts and share them with your entire team and stakeholders and even collaborate with them in real-time. It is also possible to chat and conduct team video calls within the app itself. So, Miro is mind-blowing, especially for bringing thoughts into visuals and working together with a team to plan and coordinate various projects.
What do you dislike about the product?
Because I work in a creative department, I appreciate Miro's excellent visual collaboration capabilities. A daily task management system, in addition to visual real-time collaboration capabilities, would be a great value above what is presently not available on Miro.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Thanks to the Miro for becoming an incredible visualization and real-time collaboration tool. Now, I can efficently draw and communicate my ideas, concepts, and vision to my manager and team members, which helps me remain creative and productive at my work.

Suitable for real-time collaboration but a bit costly

  • August 26, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Because of Miro's real-time chatting and video calling features, our team can collaborate and interact in real-time as if they were in the same room as us in our actual office space. It's a fantastic tool for creating mind maps, brainstorming, and various project processes, among other things.
What do you dislike about the product?
I'm not too fond of Miro's pricing plan, which is per user, which is costlier while adding plans per head. Instead, a bulk pricing plan based on each team size would be beneficial.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Overall, Miro has worked well for us as an exceptional solution for collaborative project management within a team working online from home. It, therefore, allows us to improve and debate different new ideas and thoughts constantly.

The best choice for visual collaboration, not everyday tasks or project management

  • August 26, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I always feel amazing using Miro because it is not just a digital whiteboarding tool; instead, it is a fundamental tool for drawing and visualizing almost anything. Another essential part of this tool is that our entire team can work together like they are working in the physical workspace to ideate, plan and manage things in real-time.
What do you dislike about the product?
When it comes to managing daily tasks or an entire project, this program does not match other project management tools in terms of functionality. Furthermore, the formatting and layout options are virtually endless, making building a coherent canvas at times challenging.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The overall experience has been positive. While exploring and utilizing all of its features can be overwhelming at times, we have successfully used it to drive collaboration within our team with an online meeting tool to fluidly whiteboard, precisely as we would have done in a regular office environment.

Loving Learning Miro...

  • August 25, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I've been using Miro for a few months now, and it's very quickly become my default application for brainstorming, capturing notes while studying, collaboratively drawing up architecture diagrams, online whiteboarding for video calls, and generally sharing plans and ideas.

I love the concept of an infinitely zoomable workspace, so you can see the 30,000-foot view of what you're doing or drill right down into as many details as you like.

Also, the freeform nature is wonderful - I'll often drop a quick Kanban board into the space I'm working on to help get my head around how I'm going to tackle my next challenge.
What do you dislike about the product?
I struggle with keeping my boards consistent in terms of font size and styling - Particularly as my boards grow over time; I find the scale of notes I made early in the process is very different to further down the track.

I need to get better at annotating screenshots within the tool - I have tried using Miro with a drawing tablet but haven't managed to quickly and neatly add handwritten notes.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Generally communication of ideas, and also capturing notes while studying - I'm taking several online courses at the moment, and I find it very helpful to grab screenshots, add my notes and comments there. Then I can come back the next day and quickly fly around the board to review my previous learnings.

Using Miro for Architectural views of software projects is a quick way to communicate and collaborate with others in the team.
