Useful product to understand social sentiment for client
What do you like best about the product?
Being able to filter key words is helpful for a large client with multiple products.
What do you dislike about the product?
The interface can be confusing with different modules.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Trying to understand sentiment of client's audiences and comparing that to competitors.
Decent product, but could use some updates
What do you like best about the product?
Ability to create lists of media contacts based on region and beat. Very customizable. I also like the metrics after you send out a press release. You are able to see the open rate and the journalist that opened and read the release.
What do you dislike about the product?
When you create and save a media list using their search tool (location, beat, type of journalist) you are only able to go back and remove individual journalists, rather than reshaping the list and removing specific beats. It makes it so you typically have to start from scratch when creating a new list, rather than just removing a few qualifications from old lists.
Reporting also often misses mentions of our organization. Social media metrics don't match with the metrics you pull from the specific social media sites.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are a very small staff and don't have a full time PR person. If we want to get picked up, this helps to get us coverage by easily identifying and targeting journalists interested in our organization/market.
News Monitoring and Media Contact Database
What do you like best about the product?
We've been pleased with the news coverage and the number of outlets that are tracked by Meltwater.
What do you dislike about the product?
We had some issues with setting up our customized newsletter and still encounter problems specifically related to the masthead we created for it. At times there has been a lag in the response time from the tech support group.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are able to track how our members are portrayed in the traditional media and also are seeing mentions and coverage in social media as well.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Allow more time than you think it will take to get a customized newsletter up and running. Also, allow ample time and be patient while providing search terms to Meltwater so you'll be starting from a solid foundation with respect to the types of "hits" you'll get.
Difficulty finalizing contract that fit our size business. Nice account manager.

Our account manager was friendly and helped when she could.
What do you dislike about the product?
Signing the contract was difficult. Things that were promised weren't in the contract and then after we felt pressure to sign up for more.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Media distribution on a wide level. Didn't have to do our own continuous searches for contacts and keep information up to date.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Ask every question possible and make sure your exact needs for services will be met.
Meltwater has exceeded my expectations
What do you like best about the product?
The service I get from Bud Bosley, who is responsive to my requests.
What do you dislike about the product?
The media database is not up to date, which creates a disconnect between our news releases and the media. I have not generated as many media hits through the database as I desire and the tracking is easy, but sometimes it's inconsistent (from the old platform to the current platform).
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The benefits include showing my administration the value of media work by my faculty. Meltwater helps me validate a type of work that is hard to measure results.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Before purchasing, make sure you are getting what you need. Make sure your goals and objectives are shared with Meltwater so they can help you get what you need. There are several great products. I signed a three-year agreement with Meltwater to help lower my annual cost. This contract expires next year and I will strongly consider keeping Meltwater. However, I will "kick the tires" on a couple new vendors that I met at the PRSA International Conference in Indianpolis because I liked what I saw from their presentations. Meltwater is a solid company, however, to partner with.
Meltwater - great media database and distribution system, but room for improvement
What do you like best about the product?
Ease of use for media database and news search, good WSIWYG distribution module.
What do you dislike about the product?
I'd like to be able to populate the database with proprietary information on reporters only available to me. I'd also like a stronger and more complete release distribution system, perhaps based on Drupal.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Meltwater is essential for us to provide daily news clips; prepare, target and distribute news releases; and see how the releases were picked up.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Learning curve is relatively steep, but with a lot of use it gets easier. It's a very deep platform with a lot of moving parts.

I looked at 7 different options for media monitoring, analytics and influencer search and meltwater offered by far the best dashboard and service

What do you like best about the product?
It saves me a lot of time and headache to not have to worry about the media contacts being out of date. One of my favorite parts of Meltwater is that their team proactively updates the media contacts.
What do you dislike about the product?
I don't really have anything I dislike. There is a lot of work I need to do on my end to make sure I am using Meltwater to its fullest potential, but that doesn't have anything to do with the platform itself.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have discovered new focus markets - markets that have a very strong voice in the Memphis travel story.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Meltwater does a lot of the work for you. It will save you time, which will end up saving you money. Due to the updated contacts in their system, I believe you will see far greater exposure than you would if you used other list building software.

I really like Sysomos' capabilities in providing deep analytics

A little hard to navigate at first, but you get used to it.

Social analytics. Have enjoyed being able to compare campaigns
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I like Sysomos. Keep in mind Twitter is the most open with their information so most of the analytics are based on Twitter.
Great product, slightly expensive but good support
What do you like best about the product?
I like their media tracking tools and how easy it is to analyze data. The Meltwater team does a really good job of making sure they answer your questions. They assign a staff person to your account so the person you reach out to usually knows what industry you're in.
What do you dislike about the product?
The new platform takes some adjusting to understand where everything is, but once you do that it's great! I also wish you could customize the analytics charts like in the old platform. The new analytics tab works faster and looks great, however the colors are not customizable. I also wish the pricing was a bit more affordable.

Ability to see what our competitors are doing in the media, what topics they are covering and who they are speaking to.
