The best backup system

  • May 31, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Multiplatform support, easy usability, helpful support team.

The service team is really helpful, fast and very knowledgeable about the platform.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is no mobile app, the web interface is not very responsive.
The web interface still leaves a little to be desired, however it is not something that really hinders the performance of backup functions.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Backup of vmware environment, backup of unstructured files, guarantee of disaster recovery.
There was also the resolution of losses of virtual machines, since bacula's bare-metal backup solution is extremely effective
Recommendations to others considering the product:
A tool is extremely robust, it is adjustable for environments of any size, from a small business to a large industry.
There are several plugins that encompass practically the entire IT infrastructure.
However, there is a need for the administrator of the tool to have notions of backup policy as, without this, he will not be able to get more out of the tool

Highly Recommended Product

What do you like best about the product?
After the initial configuration, it was thoroughly hands-off until everything was upgraded for the newer release. It did its job and was easy to audit and restore files.

Support is top notch - any time we have an issue we can generally get them resolved within a day of the first reply on the ticket.

Tons of supported operating systems for installation - this allows us more flexibility with the workloads that we run and back up in our infrastructure.
What do you dislike about the product?
Setting up the tape drives was a bit of a headache, as well as making the storage pool determinations - however Bacula support was there every step of the way to help bring expertise to the discussion.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Our organization can trust the backups - we've restored files and servers countless times without issue. It's allowed us to go a lot faster on the development cycles because we can trust that we can restore back to known dates and backups.

Bacula Enterprise

  • April 30, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like the configurability. You can pretty much make Bacula do anything you would like. I also like that the configuration is stored as text files instead of requiring proprietary tools to manage the config. This allows for me to change the config using scripts.
What do you dislike about the product?
I'd like to have more reporting options. I can generally get what I want by querying the catalog SQL database, but I don't want to have to do that.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are saving a lot of money by switching some of our systems that previously used Netbackup to use Bacula Enterprise instead.

Bacula Enterprise for Rock Solid Backup and Recovery

  • April 29, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
There are quite a few things I like about Bacula Enterprise: First, it works. When I need to restore files, they are there and I can get them back without having that "I hope this works" panic. Second, I like that I can install backup agents on as many machines as I want without having to pay "per device". Finally, I like the support that Bacula Enterprise provides. There are community supported Bacula editions, but having Bacula Enterprise behind me means my backups work exactly as expected, and if they don't I have a responsive and professional support team that is familiar with my particular setup to get me up and working again.
What do you dislike about the product?
Bacula Enterprise provides access to lots of documentation. LOTS of documentation. My biggest problem with Bacula Enterprise is that if I attempt something on my own I have to find the correct release notes, white paper, and/or instruction manual to get the whole story. I'm happy that Bacula Enterprise produces all this documentation but I do wish they would streamline it some.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use Bacula Enterprise to back up all our physical servers, virtual machines, and databases. We use a mix of file-by-file backups and complete image backups, and this mix gives me the ability to restore just what I need restored. Aside from the obvious benefits of restoring deleted or damaged files, Bacula Enterprise's job querying abilities have helped me find files and folders that were accidentally moved to the wrong place in our folder structure.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Take the Bacula Enterprise training. I'm not sure I could have figured everything out if I didn't.

What do you dislike about the product?
The installation was complex, we have to be very precise.

Bacula is the option for your backup, especially as the essential for DRC.

Complete full backup solution

  • February 26, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
- Bacula is a really powerful backup tool.

- Meets all required standards and allows growth without limitations.

- The enterprise version has a large number of plugins to centralize all technologies.

- Possibility to deduplicate in community version.

- The global deduplication (GED) in enterprise version is excellent, it greatly reduces the need for storage.

- The support in the enterprise version is excellent, always predisposed and collaborative to solve and investigate complex problems.
What do you dislike about the product?
- Maybe the learning curve is greater in the initial stage than other tools, but then having the basic knowledge can practically achieve anything
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
As official partners and consultants we have supported numerous organizations to solve their backup scheme, whether local, cloud or offsite.
Bacula adapts to every need, allowing it to grow, providing cross-platform compatibility and the possibility of having its main components (focus on storage daemon) on separate servers.

Powerful if you are ready to go deep in the configuration

  • February 14, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
- The deduplication engine included is really powerful and easy to work with! It's inline, no need to wait for the deduplication to "compress" your data. It's really integrated, that you can copy data from bacula's storage servers (storage daemon) very quickly... because it can take advantage on the deduplicated data that are already present on the destination node.
- The many possibilities that we have regarding configuration options.
For example: Let say you want to skip particular filesystems? Just exclude the filesystems based on an OS script.
- The support team
What do you dislike about the product?
The web interface is just "ok". When you are used to, it do the work. But it's not as user friendly as competitive product i had the opportunity to work with.
- It's ok to configure backup. But if you want something very specific, you'll have to read the whitepapers and edit manually the configuration files. It will be easier and quicker.
- it's lacks some reporting features i like to see (what are the client with the worst dedup ratio? i lack a report card, showing in a structured way all my backup jobs and the status of the last run).
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Thanks to the deduplication included in our licence, we don't have to buy a dedicated appliance. So we can store all our daily backups and replicate them quickly to a remote location.

Bacula Review

  • November 07, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
No License Fees
web-based GUI: BWeb Management Suite
Everything else that the open source version covers?
What do you dislike about the product?
The configuration can be a bit hard for beginners
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Having tried other solutions like HP/Symantec Shi****TUFF bacula is defiantly much more robust and has helped me trust backups a bit more (and the backups of the backups although I never needed that)
