Q. What is AWS IoT RoboRunner?

AWS IoT RoboRunner provides infrastructure to manage robots from a single system view. The AWS IoT RoboRunner centralized repositories provide a unified data format for facility, robot, destination, and task data, allowing for interoperable applications. In addition, AWS IoT RoboRunner provides two software libraries—a Task Manager Library and a Fleet Gateway Library —along with sample applications, making it easier for developers to build their robotics management applications on top of AWS IoT RoboRunner.

Q. In what regions will AWS IoT RoboRunner launch?

AWS IoT RoboRunner will be available in us-east-1 and eu-central-1 regions at launch.

Q. Who should use AWS IoT RoboRunner?

Industrial enterprise customers who buy, deploy, and manage robotic and automated equipment, including automated guided vehicles (AGVs), autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), and robotic arms. AWS IoT RoboRunner also benefits software developers who build robotics management applications.

Q. Why should I use AWS IoT RoboRunner?

First, AWS IoT RoboRunner provides a central data repository for facility, location, and task data, which makes it possible for developers to build interoperable management applications. Second, AWS IoT RoboRunner makes integration with robot control systems and WMS easier by providing the Fleet Gateway and Task Manager Library. In addition, AWS IoT RoboRunner eliminates the need for numerous integrations among different robot control systems and WMS. Instead, all systems integrate with AWS IoT RoboRunner, and the service connects all integrated systems automatically. Lastly, AWS IoT RoboRunner makes it easier for developers to build management applications with the Task Manager development library. This library also comes with a sample task orchestration application that includes a shared space management feature. Developers can use this sample application as a starting point to accelerate their application development.

Q. What robotic and automated equipment will AWS IoT RoboRunner support?

AWS IoT RoboRunner provides reference integrations for mobile robots from select robot vendors. Developers who use other robots or vendors not supported with reference integrations can use Fleet Gateway Library robots with AWS IoT RoboRunner.

Q. What robotics management applications can I build using AWS IoT RoboRunner?

You can build robotics management applications such as task orchestration and robot location monitoring using AWS IoT RoboRunner service APIs, Fleet Gateway Library, and Task Manager Library. AWS IoT RoboRunner provides a sample task orchestration application so you can get started quickly.

Q. Where does the Task Manager Library run?

You can run the Task Manager Library as an AWS Lambda function. Once your code is developed using the library, you can deploy the code and run it as an AWS Lambda function.

Q. Where does the Fleet Gateway Library run?

You can run the Fleet Gateway Library as an AWS IoT Greengrass component. Once your code is developed using the library, you can deploy the code and run it as an AWS IoT Greengrass component on-premises.
