Pirelli Brings Cloud Intelligence to Its Tires with AWS

Founded in Milan, Italy, in 1872, Pirelli makes more than 75 million high-performance tires a year for cars, motorcycles, and bicycles. The organization employs more than 30,000 people in 13 countries. Pirelli has a history of manufacturing innovation and has recently set up Pirelli Digital, which is dedicated to developing smart products such as Pirelli Connesso. Connesso combines in-tire sensors with a mobile app to inform drivers about tire pressure, temperature, wear, and more in real time. The backend for Connesso—and several other digital services at Pirelli—is built on Amazon Web Services (AWS), with Amazon Aurora powering its database. Pirelli chose AWS to give its digital teams the ability to quickly develop and test products and build a highly secure environment for sensitive data. In this video, Daniel Benedict, head of ICT innovation architecture at Pirelli, explains how the company uses AWS to develop new products.
