Introducing new instance sizes to the Amazon EC2 X1e Memory Optimized instance family

In September 2017, Amazon Web Services announced the new Amazon EC2 X1e instance family with the launch of the x1e.32xlarge instances. This Amazon EC2 instance size offers 3,904 GiB of DRAM available in four AWS regions, enabling customers to run larger in-memory databases such as SAP HANA. Today, five additional sizes (x1e.xlarge, x1e.2xlarge, x1e.4xlarge, x1e.8xlarge, x1e.16xlarge) of the X1e Memory Optimized instance family are being made available. Offering the highest memory per vCPU and one of the lowest price per GiB memory among Amazon EC2 instance types, the new X1e instance sizes are ideally suited for high performance databases, in-memory databases and other memory intensive enterprise applications.

Powered by quad socket 2.3 GHz Intel® Xeon® E7 8880 v3 processors, the X1e instances will enable instance configurations starting from 4 vCPUs and 122 GiB memory up to 128 vCPUs and 3,904 GiB of memory. The new X1e instance sizes being launched today (x1e.xlarge up to x1e.16xlarge) will offer 10 Gbps of peak network bandwidth when enabled with Elastic Network Adapter (ENA) based Enhanced Networking and launched within a placement group, while the existing x1e.32xlarge instances offer up to 25 Gbps of network bandwidth. All X1e instances will enable dedicated bandwidth to Amazon Elastic Block Store (Amazon EBS) starting from 500 Mbps (x1e.xlarge) up to 14 Gbps (x1e.32xlarge) and are EBS-optimized by default at no additional cost.

With the regional expansion of the x1e.32xlarge instance size to AWS Region Asia Pacific (Sydney), all X1e instance sizes are now available as On-Demand and Reserved Instances in the AWS Region US East (N. Virginia), US West (Oregon), EU (Ireland), Asia Pacific (Tokyo) and Asia Pacific (Sydney) regions. For more information, visit the X1e instance page.
