Amazon Aurora with PostgreSQL Compatibility Achieves HIPAA Eligibility

Posted on: Dec 6, 2017

The AWS Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliance program has been expanded to include the PostgreSQL-compatible edition of Amazon Aurora, which recently went into general availability. With this update, we are maintaining full HIPAA eligibility for all Amazon RDS database engines.

You can use Amazon RDS to build HIPAA-compliant applications and store healthcare related information, including protected health information (PHI) under an executed Business Associate Agreement (BAA) with AWS. If you already have an executed BAA, no action is necessary to begin using these services in the account(s) covered by your BAA. If you do not have an executed BAA with AWS, or have any other questions about HIPAA-compliant applications on AWS, please contact us.

AWS can be used to build HIPAA-compliant applications that cover the entire healthcare analytics pipeline. Visit the HIPAA Compliance page for information about HIPAA-eligible services on AWS, and Cloud Computing in Healthcare to learn more about building healthcare applications on AWS.

Amazon RDS makes it easy to set up, operate, and scale database deployments in the cloud. Visit Amazon RDS Pricing for complete regional availability.
