You can now create read replicas for an Amazon Aurora database in up to five AWS regions. This capability is available for Amazon Aurora with MySQL compatibility.
Cross-region read replicas allow you to improve your disaster recovery posture, scale read operations in regions closer to your application users, and easily migrate from one region to another. Previously, an Aurora database could be deployed in one region and have a read replica in one additional region. With this update, you can replicate your Aurora database to a wider set of geographies.
Amazon Aurora combines the performance and availability of high-end commercial databases with the simplicity and cost-effectiveness of open source databases. It provides up to five times better performance than the typical MySQL database, together with increased scalability, durability, and security. See the AWS Region Table for complete regional availability.
