AWS X-Ray launches support for Amazon CloudWatch Synthetic Canaries

Posted on: Nov 25, 2019

Today, AWS X-Ray is launching support for Amazon CloudWatch Synthetics (preview), enabling developers and DevOps engineers to trace end-to-end requests for canaries that monitor web application endpoints, and URLs.

Amazon CloudWatch Synthetics is a fully managed synthetic monitoring service that enables you to monitor your endpoints and URLs using configurable scripts called canaries that run 24x7.

This feature for AWS X-Ray enables you to quickly determine if there is a problem in your CloudWatch Synthetics canaries, determine the root cause of the issue, and identify the upstream and downstream services impacted. You can also identify performance bottlenecks and trends seen by CloudWatch Synthetics canaries, allowing you to compare the end user experience with your canaries and determine the appropriate test coverage for your endpoints and URLs.

To get started using AWS X-Ray with CloudWatch Synthetics, enable X-Ray tracing for your APIs, web application endpoints, and URLs being monitored by Synthetics canaries. For additinal information, the launch announcement blog post provides an overview guide or visit our documentation.

This feature is available in all regions where Amazon CloudWatch Synthetics is available, like Northern Virgina, Ohio, and Ireland. For information on X-Ray's overall availability please refer to the AWS Region Table.
