Announcing five new features and updated pricing for AWS IoT SiteWise

Posted on: Dec 1, 2019

Today, we are announcing five new features and updated pricing for AWS IoT SiteWise (preview). The new features provide additional capabilities in AWS IoT SiteWise to collect data from your industrial equipment, add context to the data using asset models, use the data in your custom applications, and view the data in near real-time through a fully-managed web application.

First, you can now collect data in AWS IoT SiteWise using MQTT or a REST API and store it in a time-series data store. This is in addition to existing support for collecting data from industrial equipment through OPC-UA using the AWS IoT SiteWise gateway software.

Second, you can now create virtual representations, or models, of your industrial facilities which can span a hierarchy of hundreds of thousands of assets. You can use these models to represent a single sensor, an assembly line, or a supply chain. You can link your equipment data to these models and store the data as a time series in a managed, scalable, and efficient time series data store.

Third, you can create transforms and compute metrics over your equipment data using a built-in library of mathematical and statistical operators. For example, you can create and monitor common industrial metrics such as Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) for your production plants. All equipment data and computed metrics are stored in the time series data store.

Fourth, you can now publish a live data stream from within AWS IoT SiteWise that contains measurements and computed metrics linked to your equipment. You can then then set up MQTT subscriptions to these data streams through AWS IoT Core and use the data within your custom applications.

Fifth, you can use the new SiteWise Monitor feature to create a fully-managed web application that provides enterprise users visibility into equipment data stored in AWS IoT SiteWise. Using SiteWise Monitor, users can automatically discover and display equipment data that has been ingested and modeled in AWS IoT SiteWise. They can view the data in near real-time or compare and analyze historical asset data across multiple equipment and different time periods. They can then build dashboards to organize the data and share these dashboards with other users in your company. Users can access SiteWise Monitor from any browser on a desktop, tablet or smartphone by signing in with their corporate credentials through AWS Single Sign-On.

Finally, we have updated pricing for AWS IoT SiteWise. You will be charged for data ingest and egress from AWS IoT SiteWise based on number of messages, instead of amount of data ingested or scanned. Data processing charges will be based on number of computations (such as *, +, average) performed on your data instead of the amount of data used within these computations. The new SiteWise Monitor feature will be charged for each unique active user in a month. Data Storage pricing remains unchanged. There are currently no charges for using AWS IoT SiteWise while in preview. However, you will pay for other AWS services you use along with it. Visit the pricing page to learn more.
