EC2 Image Builder is now integrated with AWS CloudFormation which allows customers to automate the creation, testing, and deployment of custom Amazon Machine Images (AMIs). EC2 Image Builder simplifies the creation, patching, testing, distribution, and sharing of Linux and Windows Server images.
Previously, to create or update EC2 Image Builder pipelines to build custom AMIs, customers had to either use the EC2 Image Builder console, CLI, or APIs. With this integration, customers can create, provision, and update EC2 Image Builder resources such as pipelines and build components in a safe, repeatable, and automated manner. AWS CloudFormation takes care of determining the specific operations to perform to deploy EC2 Image Builder pipelines and rolls back changes automatically if errors are detected.
