Today, AWS announced the opening of a new Direct Connect location in Sydney, Australia. AWS customers in Australia can now establish network connections from their premises to AWS in the NextDC S2 data center to gain high-performance, secure access to all public AWS Regions (except Regions in China). This is the third Direct Connect location in the Sydney metropolitan area. In Australia, Direct Connect is present in Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth. The new location offers dedicated 1 Gbps, 10 Gbps, and 100 Gbps connections.

AWS Direct Connect enables you to create private connections between AWS and your data center, office, or colocation environment. These private connections can reduce your network costs, increase bandwidth throughput, and provide a more consistent network experience than connections over the public internet. Using the AWS Direct Connect SiteLink feature, you can send data between AWS Direct Connect locations to create private network connections between the offices and data centers in your global network.

AWS Direct Connect is available at over 100 locations worldwide. When using AWS Direct Connect, you can access services running in any AWS Region (except China), as shown in our Region table. Customers in Australia can choose dedicated 1 Gbps, 10 Gbps, and 100 Gbps connections, or work with an AWS Direct Connect delivery partner for hosted connections with bandwidth from 50 Mbps to 10 Gbps. Customers with dedicated connections have the option to use MACsec encryption to provide additional encryption to your data while it is in transit from your corporate data center to an AWS Direct Connect location.
