Hear from Former Scuderia Ferrari F1 race engineer and Williams Head of Car Performance, Rob Smedley, during the live Practice and Qualification sessions, on how team exploit data to devise and implement race strategies in real time to create winning performances on the track.

F1 has 500M fans worldwide but how many really understand the many complex layers of the sport? As one the sports highest profile engineers Rob Smedley is more than qualified to help unpack that complexity. Rob brings his years of experience at Scuderia Ferrari and the Williams F1 teams to the event and in this session will break down the sport into a digestible format so that everyone gets to view F1 through the eyes of a team.

AWS is proud to launch a new "virtual pitwall" platform offering customers a unique view of the live race action through race data. Rob Smedley brings his immence experience of an F1 Team Pit wall to the event and shares what is really happening on the track in Brazil with data insights, commentary and the live TV broadcast feed.

Why do golf balls have dimples? – an exploration of aerodynamics and its influence on winning F1 races

Dr Neil Ashton, Principal, Computational Engineering Lead - Advanced Computing & Simulation Service Team, AWS.

In this session Dr Neil Ashton explains the importance of aerodynamics in many walks of life but particularly in winning F1 Championships. We all know aerodynamics is an importnat factor but how does it's impact manifest and how did F1 work with AWS to redesign the 2022 car and increase wheel to wheel action for the fans? Dr Ashton leans on his vast experience at NASA, the Williams and Alpine F1 teams to edcuate and entertain attendees on this fascinating subject.

F1 teams complete significant data analysis off the track but how to drivers benefit form that analysis. In this session we welcome a high-profile F1 Racing driver to the stage to explore how data influenced their ability win races and when it did not!

FORMULA 1 ROLEX GRANDE PRÊMIO DE SÃO PAULO 2023 Data Watch Party Live - Qualification

We build on the learnings from the day and return to Brazil for another live session. This time it's Qualification! This exhilarating sessions pits the teams against each other and the clock over one lap with the time deciding where they line up on the grid for the Sprint race on Saturday. Once again we will be joined on Stage by Rob Smedley and Nicola Hume to share the "virtual pitwall" and guide us through the action as it unfolds.
