    Computer Software

Way forward with Software Development

  • December 01, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like the way ubuntu utilities the resources like cpu and ram. It is quite efficient than windows based os. Not only the efficient usage of resources but it comes with out of the box ready features for software developers. I like its kernal. It is the simplest but the unique. It is robust and not affected by viruses normally.
What do you dislike about the product?
Only thing I dislike about ubuntu is that it is not very easily for normal people. installing softwares are not as simple as in windows os. some of the softwares are only compatible with windows. I should have a feature to easily virtualise windows based softwares. Solution to this problem do exist but they are not very stable.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
On a daily basis, I search for different texts that are present in hundreds of files. I use grep command to easily look for those files. I can easily uncompress files using gunzip. So in my day to day life. ubuntu makes it better.

awesome open-source and capable OS

  • November 23, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Best part is that it is open source and free for all . Unlike the other Linux distributions Ubuntu is very beginner friendly and have very clean user interface which is also improving day by day.Ubuntu constantly releases update and security patches. This is the best you OS for developers and programmers (personal opinion) because everything is combustible unlike mac OS.The biggest reason to love Ubuntu is the community behind it. you can ask your queries on askubuntu.com and you will get response within no time .
What do you dislike about the product?
Since it is opensource there are some problems as well. You will struggle to get good software available for day to day tasks. Even it is difficult to get a fully working video editor for Ubuntu. Many companies don't provide their native apps for Linux due to their small user base. And it sometimes stuck and crashes as well.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Ubuntu is a life savior for a programmer. You can install the packages just by running a simple command in terminal and everything will be setup. Most of the tools like gcc,g++ are designed for Linux works well with Ubuntu but for windows you need plugins to run them.
It's also a lightweight OS used less amount of ram and works well on low end PCs.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you want to be a programmer you will definitely like it.If you are a normal user just give a try to it you will get more insides of how a OS works.

  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like the user interface and customization that it has. I have used it for different purposes such as web application development, virtualization, technical support, games and entertainment, I really like the amount of associated software that helps improve the user experience.
What do you dislike about the product?
The only problem that I have been able to find is the same in all linux. nothing is that simple and many times it is necessary to resort to forums and help to solve compatibility problems or report bugs that cause the OS to freeze.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I've been using it lately to improve my team's performance in team virtualization. It has helped me keep multiple functional environments in operation on my computer without the need to acquire more resources or upgrade to solid state units
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Sometimes talking about linux makes many lose their minds and opt for classic operating systems. Ubuntu has been an operating system characterized by user experience, it is undoubtedly the best Linux environment and can help optimize and better use the resources of the computers. especially the reading and writing of the hard disk. It's a good idea to give this free software operating system a try.

I am a machine learning architect and I have been Ubuntu for years

  • November 19, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Ubuntu runs a linux kernel and is a pythonic operating system. Python being one of the most popular choice for development in my field, ubuntu really is the ideal choice. I personally have developed systems which were a pain to run on Windows but perform excellently on Ubuntu. Another use is for cross platform deployment, where you can containerize an environment with ubuntu running inside and be assured that your microservice will be platform independent.
What do you dislike about the product?
The only caveat is that the operating system gives you access to very low level workings of the system which requires a certain know how. However, once you're adept at it, the same principle makes installation of several dependencies a breeze.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I regularly work with ubuntu to develop machine learning solutions. I work on several frameworks such tensorflow, pytorch and I use ubuntu as a development environment to train deep learning models and build end to end systems.

The dependency installations are very simple and accessing hardware such as gpus, cameras with software packages is very simple.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I would advise you to consider your use case when choosing an operating system. Ubuntu is the best for development in my opinion. Even more deployment. However if the end user is to use the system it is not the best at UI/UX.

What do you like best about the product?
It is an open source operating system. So you have full control. If something goes wrong or does not work, you can consult the community. You can configure the os according to your needs.
What do you dislike about the product?
Many good softwares are not supported in Linux. Although alternative softwares are available, some softwares cannot be replaced. For example Adobe acrobat and MS Office is not supported in Linux
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
As a developer, this is the best OS you can use. Its perfect for programming and development.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you are looking for a open source operating system, Ubuntu is the best unless you are specifically looking for other distros.
