Ubuntu is my go to OS for developmental tasks, it's the best open source software ever created

  • August 13, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Ubuntu being a open source is amazing to work on. it supports various packages out of the box. I primarily use it for robotics software development projects and it is amazing how this stands out from the noise of the os available.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's too heavy the original system while the various other flavours are quite light and gives a more base control over the system.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use ubuntu daily in my job to develop robotics applications using ROS framework. The many benefits are the ease of use, the higher abstraction in machine control and the ease of creating applications

It was a great experience with Ubuntu Operating System.

What do you like best about the product?
It is free to download and open source, anyone can easily install and use Ubuntu OS.
Also, there is no disk partition structure, so we can store content wherever we want.
It looks more clear vision when i play same video in Ubuntu.
It is working great also when i work from remote location, by remote connection.

I like most is Ubuntu terminal, it's like magic trick when you know most commands to do some operations.
What do you dislike about the product?
One time it hangs when i was using heavy software.
I have enough RAM, but some times, some heavy process starts, it hangs for sometime.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am using OS for learning Shell script commands in terminal.
First i like strong terminal base, which helps me a lot to manage things with finger-tail.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
To be honest, it is very wonderful and secured operation system you can rely on.
If you a student, then you can learn lot of things.
Because it is also important to work in terminal as compared to of user interface.
Because in future, if you want to resolve issues or perform some operations in this operating system, then you need to be master enough in command line tools.

The most powerful platform in the operating system world

  • August 01, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
As I mentioned in the title it is the most powerful operating system. Nowadays everyone is using an open-source platform in terms of tools, monitoring systems, implementation software, etc. The ubuntu is supporting all of above things.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some flaws and bugs also in the Ubuntu as well but that would not be going to impact anything. So as per my knowledge no major dislikes for Ubuntu.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I hadn't found major problems with Ubuntu at the time of implementation of the open-source software. Truly I observed many benefits using Ubuntu for open software implementation. It supports almost every opensource tool and very good support also available.

Make the switch from Windows to Linux, with Ubuntu!

  • July 30, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Open Source software, which is great with the ending of Windows 7 and the forced migration to Windows 10. Ubuntu is a great alternative to Windows and has many resources available to it all over the internet..from beginner tips, to advanced solutions/customization of the OS that the whole user community is ready to healp with.
What do you dislike about the product?
While the community is great to get assistance from, searching for the topic first can get cumbersome, especially the more edge solution you are looking for.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The license free software that is available to the OS is a huge benefit. The integrated networking tools makes administration easier for pros.

The defacto open-source linux distro

  • July 27, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Because it's so commonly used, there's loads of support out there (including tutorials), software addons, etc for many versions of Ubuntu. Over the years, Canonical have kept their promises in terms of keeping versions (particularly Long term support versions) in support and secure. If you are a GUI user, Ubuntu also has one of the more user-friendly and accessible interfaces of the Linux distros that I've come across.
What do you dislike about the product?
administering Ubuntu server via the command line can be frustrating - it's not the most user friendly or well thought through, even for experienced sysadmins. Generally speaking, it can be a bit heavier to run than certain other linux distributions, but in my opinion, the benefits far outweigh the downsides.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Development and production workloads, happy to be hosted on windows architecture via HyperV (or stuff like Oracle's VirtualBox), or in cloud environments such as AWS. Their long term support (LTS) distributions are suitable for enterprise grade applications in that, they are often patched for security etc. We've had very few critical issues.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Some understanding of Linux basics is essential if you're going for a non-GUI version, but generally, it is low risk to test then scale up.
