What do you like best about the product?
I work as network administrator of a Linux oriented company and for me work with Ubuntu it's essential. I use it as desktop environment but also it's reliable to other tasks, including use it as a server operative system.
One of the things that I like from Ubuntu is the releases program, there are new releases every six months, and main updates every two years, this means that you can get your system updated very often. Also this releases are available with different graphical environments, Gnome, KDE, xFace or unity.
What do you dislike about the product?
There are only a negative thing is that the ofimatic tools are not at the level of this distribution, there are much incompatibility problems and hangs often.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
In our company almost everybody use Ubuntu as desktop operative system. With the integration of VirtualBox you can have available also a Windows machine to do some tasks with Word and Excel
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It's the best environment for developers, administrators and even for home. It's fast and stable, and with Canonical investing in Ubuntu, there are releases often.
I recommend ubuntu to everyone, whatever level they have of knowledge.

The package systems based in the Debian one, called Apltitude, allow the users to download and install all types of packages fast and easy.
What do you dislike about the product?
Since the version of 2014, Ubuntu 14.04, there are installed by default a graphical environment developed by Canonical that isn't at level of the rest of the distribution, gets hang usually and generate problems with other applications. In the last releases of Ubuntu, it seems that there are new graphical environment

We use Ubuntu in the desktop computers of all workers of our company. We use Ubuntu for all tasks, office tasks, administration, etc.

What do you like best about the product?
Ubuntu it's an amazing operative system and it's valid for everybody, but fits specially perfect with the people that works as system administrators or software developer.
In Ubuntu you can do whatever you want with a level of detail very high, at difference of windows/mac environments, in Ubuntu if you have a good knowledge you can tune it to fit with your needs perfectly.
Also Ubuntu it's much faster than their competitors, needs less hardware resources and it's more stable.
What do you dislike about the product?
Just dislikes me that the graphical environment of the last versions, called Unity, crash frequently and it's less stable than the other options like Gnome and KDE.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Basically we use Ubuntu as default operative system to do all task that we do. Ubuntu helps to do my work as System Administrator because there are available all tools that I need available.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Actually Ubuntu it's one of the best Linux distributions, it's fast and stable, and the amount of users help to do it better. The package system called APT works really good and there are available all packages ready to use.

What do you like best about the product?
I think that ubuntu has managed to bring Unix operating systems closer to the usual windows users, with an easy installation system, easy usage, and limiting the things where the terminal is needed.
Focusing more to Ubuntu kindness, its compatible with almost all hardware available and there are a very big repositories of packages available, that allows the users to use lots of applications.
What do you dislike about the product?
The only negative point of Ubuntu is the disgusting graphical environment Unity, it's slow and gets hang usually.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use as operative system alongside Windows 10. Basically we use as operating system for servers, but also we use in some desktops.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you need to work in Linux, it's the best choice. Easy to start, good support with lots of releases, and most of the programs already compiled

What do you like best about the product?
Ubuntu its a really good operative system, fast, stable and open source.
The Canonical company do a maintenance of Ubuntu which makes it like a business OS, at level of support and releases.
Also very interesting thing is that the amount of users that there are using Ubuntu, makes possible to have all typical programs compiled and packaged for Ubuntu
What do you dislike about the product?
In general it's everything ok, but there are some little things in the last versions, like the inclusion of advertising inside the system
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It's our base system, we use for almost everything. It's stable and reliable.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Ubuntu is the best Linux distribution actually. Its fast, reliable and very easy to use. At difference of some years ago, there are drivers for all hardware

In my opinion Ubuntu is better than ever distribution, its stable, fast, and easy to use. The packages repository it's amazing, and whatever isn't in the repo it's package for ubuntu. Related with packages, the APT system it's very useful and easy to use, especially to update.

Maybe in the last versions 16x and 17x the inclusion of UNITY for me was a total error, but they realize about and now Ubuntu use GNOME again.

A refreshing change!

What do you like best about the product?
Where do I begin? Transformed my 6-year old laptop that was crawling under Windows to a snappy-fast machine. Linux has reached a stage where it is a serious operating system that caters to different users, from novice computer users to power users. The interface is very easy to understand, the system comes with Libre Office that is a worthy alternative to MS Windows, and much, much more. I was a Windows holdout for a long time. Really liked Windows 7. Skipped Windows 8. Loathed Windows 10. It seemed like my laptop had a mind of its own when running Windows. There was this feeling that my laptop was sneakily doing something behind my back. I felt that this version of Windows is just .... kludgy. And there ware the constant Windows updates.... After I got blue screens on multiple occasions, I realized it was time to move on. And I haven't looked back.

Ubuntu gave a new life to my old laptop. I am able to perform all tasks that I used to do on Windows without any issues. Most of the software packages are free. It is reassuring to know that you can take any old laptop and as long as you backup your files and the logic board is still alive and kicking, your computer will live on. Hard drive died? No problem, just install a new hard drive, reinstall Ubuntu for free, copy your files from your backup, and you are back on the road. While Macs do offer this feature, the hardware for Mac is still quite expensive. With Ubuntu, you can buy an old laptop and get yourself a decent performer for very little money.
What do you dislike about the product?
Support for Linux distros is not fully there yet. There still some areas where the interface is not as polished as, say, a Mac (document viewer comes to mind). Still, for what it is, the operating system is incredible.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Primary operating system, freed myself from the clutches of Windows.

    Computer Software

A good choice if you work in software industry.

  • August 29, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
If you don't like something is really easy to get your hands dirty and change whatever you want, easier than other Linux options in the command parts and you have more freedom than with Windows or Mac.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes you have to search for a long time in order to make something work because almost all software is prepared for mainstream solutions like Windows.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We only use ubuntu to code because it seems to work better with low level code in C.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you work in the software industry you have heard of it, maybe this is the time to give it a try.
