Great Ideology, Growing Pains still around
What do you like best about the product?
The developere experience is clean and simple. It is difficult to do things that will break unexpectedly. Powerful yet intuitive. Nice. It's the future.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's slow at times, and it's difficult to make faster. There have been some major bugs, and the stability and consistency of the feature set isn't quite where it needs to be.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Building internal tools, and helping launch external ventures. Benefits are the time to launch, the easy upskilling and intuitiveness. Most all relevant options are presented at the right times, in the right way.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I'd back this horse, be prepared to train with it for a couple years though.
Mindblowing, but sometimes quirky
What do you like best about the product?
How easy it is to put together interactive interfaces, as well as the straightforward implementation of custom features.
What do you dislike about the product?
Personally, I found it hard to control the flow of data and how reactions to changes, especially queries, behave
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Creating dashboards for internal use, to have data available at a glance.
Great low-code tool with a lots of customization options!
What do you like best about the product?
Excellent, user-friendly tool. A+ support.
What do you dislike about the product?
Tough to get layouts to look just right.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are developing in-house tools that were previously outsourced to external developers. We've made great strides in being more flexible with our stakeholder requirements, improved functionality, and cost savings!
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Great for people who have familiarity with coding but aren't full-fledged software engineers. The layout editor can be a bit finicky and takes a bit of getting used to, but the overall capabilities of the tool and their customer support are fantastic. It is highly recommended.
Overall excellent - a few minor warts
What do you like best about the product?
An excellent way to build internal tooling that's helped us get projects going very quickly. Semi-technical users can easily put together apps with data from multiple sources (e.g., PostgreSQL DBs and APIs).
What do you dislike about the product?
The tool's performance eventually becomes an issue with lots of users, and we've had the odd memory leak. It takes a minimal amount of ops time to look after it but infinitely worthwhile. You'll likely start in Retool, iterate, and then move into a fully formed application in the future (with scale).
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We've built a range of internal tooling that has eased concerns over data access thanks to Retool's auditing capabilities.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
* Set alarms on response times from your load balancer and the memory / CPU usage of the container.
* Upgrade regularly after testing in a staging environment.
* Upgrade regularly after testing in a staging environment.
No-brainer tool for building operations and admin tooling
What do you like best about the product?
Very easy to create interfaces and sync data. Simple to create robust applications that are easy to use by internal stakeholders.
What do you dislike about the product?
Data loading can take a long time if your app is not built correctly (with pagination, etc.). Definitely needs more guidance around how to optimize apps.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We used Retool to build out interfaces for our admin tooling. We have several components of our platform we need to manage, including users, brands, products, etc. and we manage the data and day-to-day work with Retool apps. It has saved us significant development time as well.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Retool is great for building your back-end admin tooling fast, however as you need more custom use cases, it can be more difficult to bend Retool to your will.
Effective and Time Saving Tool
What do you like best about the product?
Its little tricky to learn in the begining but once learnt its easy and time saving , utilities are helpful and simplifies day to day job
What do you dislike about the product?
nothing as of now from QA/Tester perspective it's effective and very much useful.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Seggregating and representing the data into different dashboards that we have configured and easy to check and use in our verification and validation of several test cases which would easily by pass the database access and query that in turn saves time especially people from remote and co-located areas who needs VPN etc. Excellent Utility.
Excellent tool to build backoffice systems quickly
What do you like best about the product?
Speed to develop a frontend and also the various integrations that Retool allows to do.
What do you dislike about the product?
When the front has a lot of integration calls it is quite confusing for users to understand that he/she has to wait for a bunch of Ajax calls. Imagine a form with 30 fields and each one coming from a different integration. This makes Retool slow and fragile.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Provide a back-office system quickly for the company.
Time Saving Tool with Big Benefits for a Startup
What do you like best about the product?
Retool has a very friendly user interface, and was very easy to learn for someone with little development experience. It is a very intuitive tool. It also has a lot of potential use cases, and the templates are helpful for setup and for ideas.
What do you dislike about the product?
Unique deployment seems difficult - i.e. deploying retool within an AWS VPC. We need to do this to ensure security guidelines are met, but reading through the instructions and figuring out how to do this seems difficult. I wish it was easier to deploy retool for custom setups where security guidelines were strict, or have the option of a retool consultant that could provide one on one support.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are avoiding development time for internal tools that saves our company time. Previously, we would have to consume development resources to create internal tools, taking away from new feature development. Now we do not have to do that. We are also giving our operations team access to the database and tools to use with the database, whereas before they would have to submit a request to the IT team, which would take time and could easily be forgotten about.
