Fast, flexible, but costly when scaling

  • October 08, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The drag-and-drop interface is super intuitive, so our team can quickly design and tweak apps without getting bogged down in front-end coding. The integrations are a huge time-saver; we can connect our databases and APIs seamlessly, which means less time on setup and more time actually building. Plus, I love that Retool isn’t restrictive—you can add custom code whenever you need, which lets us tailor apps to our exact needs rather than being limited to rigid templates. Overall, great tool to get started, super easy to implement.
What do you dislike about the product?
The platform can get expensive, especially if you need multiple users working on applications simultaneously. Mobile responsiveness could be improved. Currently, it works best for desktop applications, so if you’re looking to build mobile-friendly tools, it may not be the best option out of the box.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We’ve used Retool primarily for building dashboards and tools that streamline our operations, such as data management, CRM, and inventory tracking. The time saved by using Retool compared to traditional development has been significant. It’s become a core part of our internal tools ecosystem, helping us improve productivity and allowing our team to respond quickly to business needs.

What do you like best about the product?
Retool is a powerful combination of ease of use and flexibility. It allows you to quickly build and deploy complex internal tools using a drag-and-drop interface while also offering the ability to write custom code when needed. This balance between no-code simplicity and developer-friendly customization makes Retool incredibly versatile for a wide range of use cases.
What do you dislike about the product?
Retool is awesome, but when your app grows, it can feel like untangling Christmas lights—still doable, but a bit of a headache. And the pricing? Let’s just say your wallet might need a pep talk.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Retool is like a superhero for building internal tools—it saves you from drowning in custom code. Instead of spending weeks on development, you can whip up a fully functional app in hours. It’s solving the problem of slow, resource-heavy internal app development, which means we get to focus on actually solving business problems rather than wrestling with endless lines of code.

It is still not ready to be used beyond prototyping stage or when there is a need to fully scale the infra for heavier loads.
