Highly Customizable Platform for Building Internal (and some external) Tools

  • October 08, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Retool makes building internal tools incredibly efficient by offering a wide range of pre-built components and an intuitive drag-and-drop interface. Its flexibility with JavaScript and SQL lets us create customized applications without needing extensive engineering resources. The platform's ability to connect to virtually any database or API is a huge plus, allowing us to centralize data and functionality in one place.
What do you dislike about the product?
If there was more styling ability, it would open retool up to more external use cases.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Retool has streamlined our internal workflows by allowing us to build custom dashboards, management systems, and data visualizations quickly. We've automated several manual processes, saving time and reducing the need for multiple software tools. The ability to update and customize applications in real-time has empowered our team to iterate and improve solutions as we scale.

Outstanding platform without outstanding capabilities.

  • October 08, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The ease with which to build on ideas and creativity. Simplest solution to go from idea to production. If you have an idea, very high likelihood it can be created in retool.
What do you dislike about the product?
The underlying unit testing is challenging. Being able to write a new module and test it with a set of test data is hard. Additionally, versioning code isn't very effective.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Fast development windows.

Retool: Empowering Developers with Seamless App Building

  • September 06, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Retool is an exceptional platform that redefines the way developers build internal tools and applications. It provides a robust and intuitive interface, allowing you to quickly create functional apps by connecting with your databases, APIs, and workflows with minimal friction. What sets Retool apart is its flexibility to customize everything, from simple forms to complex workflows, while still keeping development fast and accessible.

For those who value both power and simplicity in their app development process, Retool strikes the perfect balance. Whether you're working with SQL queries, APIs, or custom JavaScript, Retool seamlessly integrates with your existing systems, saving hours of coding and debugging. If you're like me and love efficient, user-friendly solutions, Retool is a game-changer.

We use this tool daily and have seen incredible value in bringing transparency between all of our systems. Our operations have improved 10 fold.
What do you dislike about the product?
I like the pricing model until you get to discuss enterprise pricing. There is not enough justification for us to take the plunge and take on that kind of expense. I also feel that the enterprise pricing was a complete shocker and adds quite a bit to your final price.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We can get right into the SQL without delays in user interface design/development.

Easy to Use

  • August 26, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I've been using Retool for our company for a little over 1.5 years, and I think it's hands-down the best application to use when trying to build no-code or low-code tools for internal use. We've been able to bring about a large amount of tools for our various platforms, and have also had a really easy time with setting up the integrations with our platforms. The implementation process was simple and precise, and Retool has become the system that our team uses tools from daily.
What do you dislike about the product?
I would like some guidance on Javascript building as we're working on low-code projects.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Retool solves a number of use cases, including but not limited to designing reports for users that don't have access to the database, making changes to the database without needing access, and limiting the amount of database users for compliance reasons.

As someone with no formal computer science background, Retool is the best tool to allow business operations roles to build usable applications easily. Retool has many features and establishes a good roadmap that addresses evolving needs.
What do you dislike about the product?
The documentation can be unclear for some features.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Retool allows applications to be built with no code which helps roles such as business operations be able to try out different workflows before involving an engineer.

Retool for Scale

  • August 26, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Retool allows us to scale our processes to both technical and non-technical teams. The UI takes some getting used to, but once a basic level of understanding is acheived, there are a huge number of use cases to implement.
What do you dislike about the product?
A bit of a learning curve. Building apps as a non-technical user might be a bridge too far.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Scaling out processes that are mechanical turk-like in nature.

Fast and Reliable way to build internal tools

  • August 26, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It's very simple and easy to use. Everything is just drag and drop with a little Javascript and you will have your app running. Retool saved us a lot effort building our internal tools, simply focus on our business logic and Retool will handle the UI. We have automated a lot of internal tasks with the help of Retool.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes it's a bit hard to debug from the software engineer point of view.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Retool helps us automate the process of managing the orders in our fulfillment process. We also use Retool to build several dashboards as the internal interface for the warehouse operators to interact with underlying physical machines in our warehouse.

The only tool builder for internal uses that you should look for

  • August 23, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Retool is a great tool for quickly building internal apps. It's really easy to use, and the version control feature is super handy for keeping everything organized. Plus, it has pretty much everything you need to get the job done.
What do you dislike about the product?
Retool has a few downsides to keep in mind. Debugging, especially for scripts, can be pretty tricky. The "Preview" button actually triggers the function, which can lead to unattended requests—something that’s not clear just from the name "preview." Also, it’s not the most user-friendly for non-tech folks, so they might find it a bit tough to navigate.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We don't need to spend time to build tools for internal users like customer supports.
