Great vendor, great product

  • November 16, 2018

What do you like best about the product?
The amount of depth you can achieve with custom transport rules is incredible. A bit overwhelming at the outset, but over time as more use cases come up, it's possible to achieve just about anything with the right combination of conditions.
What do you dislike about the product?
Because of the way threat scoring and threat sandboxing is done, it's simply not possible to prevent every threat from being delivered to recipients' mailboxes. I would prefer some additional options around delivery of suspected malicious content.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The biggest benefit we've realized is a decrease in message-based threats reaching our end-users, resulting in fewer resources needed to investigate incidents and lower costs of incident response. Proofpoint has helped us narrow the gate on social engineering attacks.

Proofpoint SaaS Email Protection has worked well for us

What do you like best about the product?
I really liked setting up our Proofpoint cloud instance for the first time 3 years ago.. Since we migrated from ancient on-premises proofpoint servers we did not have a direct migration path and we had to do a lot of manual configurations to match our existing proofpoint services. I worked with a knowledgeable Proofpoint engineer and everything went very well. The rest of my team found Proofpoint to be well suited for administration, allowing the management workload to be shared by the team. We found proofpoint to be flexible and predictable overall. The underlying operating system is completely managed by Proofpoint so Unix experience is not necessary. Due to the cloud arrangement, there is no hardware to maintain and the cloud instance in manageable form for work and home. For the most part, Proofpoint is limited only by your imagination and there is a way to do just about anything.
What do you dislike about the product?
Many companies are required to encrypt sensitive emails, either by a secure email service or by TLS encryption. Since a secure email service is cumbersome, TLS encryption is a popular solution because it is transparent to both the sender and the recipient.

If you enable a domain for enforced TLS encryption, the sub domains are automatically included with forced TLS. This is problematic with large domains with many ad-hoc sub domains that don't happen to support TLS. Although it is possible to exclude certain sub domains, each case is different and generally involves a great deal of analysis and trial and error. Although we opened several support cases on this, we never received a solid solution. It is easier to decline requests for enforced TLS unless the sub domains will fully support it too.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The anti spam intelligence is managed and updated 24x7 by Proofpoint engineers. We may admin the way SPAM is managed in Proofpoint but we seldom have ever needed address inbound spam on a daily basis.

Recommendations to others considering the product:
Go with the cloud version it is so much easier than the appliances.

What do you like best about the product?
I like the multiple module approach, and finally the email firewall rules to ensure we have a lot of control over what our end users receive. I also love TRAP which makes it really easy to pull malicious emails, even when they have been forwarded all over the organization.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes the portal is slower than I would like.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Phishing has been cut down significantly. Malicious attachments are always removed.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Beats the competition

Robust Email Protection

What do you like best about the product?
PP documentation and support. Both have been invaluable to my initial learning of the product and to the advancement of my role in managing the appliance. I have implemented advanced email policies that leverage advanced email firewall protection for our site.
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish the systems were integrated into one dashboard: email security, TAP, Support. This is not a deal-breaker, but the convenience would be nice. If I had to choose a second, it would be the support desk escalation process. If I am asking a complex question, I would prefer it to be addressed by an engineer that is familiar with what I'm asking rather that stuck at the level 1 technician that takes considerable more time to analyze.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Email TAP protection: spam, phish, ransomware, etc. Reporting is straight forward and easy to read and use for health checks and changes/edits. I've implemented SPF monitoring on trusted healthcare providers to ensure that, even if their sender information fails SPF, we will be notified and I can guide them to the documentation of best practice or allow their site. This has helped assure our physicians that they will not miss any anticipated email.

What do you like best about the product?
Hey all, email security is a must-have these days, with hackers getting into phones and exposing private information to the public. As I said earlier, email security is essential and this company provides it!
What do you dislike about the product?
Not a thing!! If my email is secure, I can rest easy.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Problems that have been solved are that my email is accessible to me and me only, this level of security makes doing business easier.
